This store has great curb appeal if you like estate jewelry, which I do. Ive been going here for twenty years but unfortunately will go no more. I took a pair of vintage earrings here to get made into posts. They told me two or three weeks. After four weeks I called... and they had no idea where the earrings were! I was told I would get a call back when they located them, but I didnt so I had to call again. I was then told they were at the Newburyport store and would be in Portsmouth by the end of the week. That was Tuesday. Again no call. So the following Tuesday I called AGAIN and turned out that once again the earrings had gone missing. These are vintage, irreplaceable earrings. I said I was stunned that they could have lost a customers jewelry, and was told they werent LOST, they just didnt know where they were. I am not kidding. At this point I lost my temper. They said theyd continue to look, and later that day they called to say theyd been found in the Dover store. My receipt was clearly marked with my name, my number, and PORTSMOUTH... so why they had gone to Newburyport then Dover I dont know. But at last I had my earrings back and there would be no charge. Yay! I was told I would get a call to confirm that they had reached the Portsmouth store the following week. By Friday of the following week I had still gotten no call. But this time at least when I called they WERE in Portsmouth. When I went to pick up the earrings I was told, oh by the way you have to be very careful with them because the backs were just glued on. Why? Because "this type of metal is unsolderable." I looked at the earrings and clearly saw parts that had been soldered on years ago. I also remembered being told by another jeweler that they could be soldered, but that jeweler was going to charge me $50 so I came here. I started to comment, but the clerk gave me such a "face" that I didnt bother to argue, just took my earrings and left and will never go back. I realized: if they lied about the soldering, my guess is they lied about what happened to the earrings too; they probably never even made it to the metal worker and a clerk just glued the backs on. Great estate jewelry but terrible terrible terrible customer service and shoddy workmanship. Theyve lost a loyal customer. Too bad.

Ive shopped here for years and its my favorite place to go for jewelry - Im not interested in modern jewelry anymore, Im completely spoiled on vintage sparklies. In fact, my love for demantoid garnets can be traced 100% back to this store, several years ago. I was looking at emeralds (at that time my favorite stone) and Peter somehow winkled out that I have a January birthday and thus a garnet birthstone, but Ive never been fond of ordinary red garnets. He showed me an antique Russian demantoid garnet ring and that was that. Ive also had a few things repaired here and they did a good job at it. Their prices do seem to have gone up quite a bit in the last few years, thus the subtraction of one star (I would rather have taken off only half a star but that wasnt an option), but I do still think that you get good value for your money here, especially given that youll find unique items here instead of the same-old-same-old at most jewelers these days.

I was so absolutely THRILLED when I stopped in this shop with my husband. We were just in town for a few days and were doing some shopping downtown and stopped in this shop just on a whim. Everyone in there was very helpful and extremely friendly. I browsed around and pointed to some things and one of the young guys pulled out a box of rings and said "play around" if he had not done that I would of never found the ring I purchased. Colleen helped us from there on out once I found the ring I have been looking for to match my engagement ring! A vintage 1920s estate engagement ring. The ring I found was made for my ring and I couldnt believe it. I was so pleased, I never write reviews but the service was great and Colleen was extremely knowledgeable. Thank you SO MUCH, you made my trip!!!!

My sister and I (twins) were looking for a special "mothers ring" for our moms 70th birthday. We were able to easily view some items on the website and emailed them to see if we could have the items brought to the Portsmouth store. Collene, from the Portsmouth store, kindly had all the rings organized, with a few added suggestions for the day we arrived. Thank you Collene for all your help! Dont shop here. Waited 5 minutes for woman behind the counter to help us while she talked on a personal phone call. During that time my cell phone rings, I answer as Im being ignored anyway and the hypocritical woman has the arrogance rudeness to ask me to take my phone call outside. Well I stayed on the phone and she lost my business forever.

Absolutely love the staff in the Portsmouth location, as well as their online folks. Bought a new wedding band for me and a watch for my husband. Wedding band prong became loose and a diamond fell out- now theyre replacing that without charge. Quick, helpful and customer oriented business. Also appreciate their beautiful stock.

this store has really turned around from where it was five years ago. They have always had a great selection but now their staff is stellar! If you are looking for a vintage piece or an estate engagement ring, go here ... and they have 3 other stores if they dont have it here, they may somewhere else! I love the Dover store.

We would not recommend this store. There was an absolute lack of communication, they left us waiting for weeks and did not double check any of their work. We had to have our purchased fixed many times before it was done "right", but we are getting a second opinion as it does not appear to have been fixed correctly.
