After 15 years I got back into playing Magic and wound up buying a bunch of cards there. The shop sells singles, and small and large boxes in a "grab bag" style -- who knows what youre going to get? In fairness the small clear boxes are at least interesting at about $10 and Ive rarely had more than 4 or a kind. Word to the wise: NEVER NEVER NEVER buy one of the large boxes of cards ("Treasure Chests" or "War Chests" or whatever). I bought two and was sadly disappointed. The second was a box of 1500 artifact cards priced at about $70. At that price I dont think I should get huge numbers of worthless duplicates accounting for about a third of the box (Im not exaggerating). Judge for yourself: 47 Eldrazi Spawn tokens (not artifacts anyway), 25 Hammer of Ruin, 26 Razor Boomerang, over 15 each of Demons Horn, Dragons Claw, Wurms Tooth, Angels Feather, Rod of Ruin, etc... and it goes on and on. The ONLY rares were the ones on the outside of the box (fair enough). They could have put in some nicer stuff and still made a profit and made me feel good about my purchase. Heck, I would have been satisfied even if I didnt get more than four of any card. But they probably figured they could just dump all their bulk crap and made a killing on that box, and now it cost them all the future business I would ever have given them. And now maybe yours, too. I should also mention that the sales staff is pretty awful ("Hey, nice store" is met with a cold look and silence), and the owner is somewhere between awful and unbelievable, and openly remarks he doesnt like kids in his store. It doesnt get much better after your 10th visit, either. Compare this to Armored Ogre, where I went for the first time the other day -- even though I was just turning in a free coupon (so he wasnt making a dime on me), THAT owner gave me his card, showed me their calendar and was completely professional and friendly. Vote with your feet, people.

An EXCELLENT store positively MOUNDED with fun stuff to look at, buy or marvel over. I saw some seriously cool stuff in there! If only the staff werent such complete tools. I went in with two huge boxes of merchandise to sell or perhaps trade. The young man behind the counter was very polite and called the store owner (apparently he lives like a block away) to come have a look at everything since it was a rather large amount. I told him what I would like as far as trade value, and he offered me about a fourth of what I asked for. Not taking it personal, I smiled and told him I would look elsewhere. Dude went OFF on me, demanding what sort of profit margin I thought was fair for a store like his, did I understand how business were run ("no I dont think you do!"), and so on. I was so taken aback I didnt know what to say. Then he tried to convince me to leave the boxes and boxes of stuff Id brought for a mere $200. When I turned him down, he got aggressive and on his feet, trying to convince me what a bad decision it would be to sell any of it online ("think of the shipping, the boxes, etc. eating into your profit!"), how little I knew what I was doing and so on. The man was rude, crude, and ugly about the whole thing as I tried to hurriedly pack all my stuff back up into my boxes and not damage anything (mostly 20+ year old toys). As my wife and i were heading out the door we heard him say "I really wish I coulda broken that guy!" What a jerk! The store owner was aggressive, rude, and as it turns out, a bit of a scammer. Ive sold just ONE of the (dozen or so?) items I brought for him for over $200 since my visit. While I wouldnt expect him to pay 100% of the value price, I also wouldnt expect to be freaking ROBBED in the process. What a scam! Stay away, the store is great but the owner is a JERK who treats his customers like opponents, not guests!

Honestly I signed into my google account for the first time in years just to write this review. Ive had probably 4-5 experiences with Cedar Cliff. Firstly their staff is the least helpful of any game store Ive ever been to period. Now I dont need a lot of help but others certainly do, and this staff seems kind of in their own world. Still my point here is that their staff is not a positive for the store. Now Ive had 2 very negative experiences with them. The first was at a time when I was working 7 days a week 10-12 hour shifts. The importance of this is that I never had a day off and did not have time to come in during regular hours. One day I managed to get a half day and rushed out to Cedar Cliff to get some deckboxes. I arrived about 20 minutes before their listed closing time. However this day they had decided to close shop early and so despite the fact that they were still in the store, the staff told me that they were no longer selling things and to come back another day. The second of my experiences has come today. Again I managed to get off work a bit early (my hours are much more reasonable now but I have a lot of other obligations), so I had an extra 20ish minutes to go out and browse their selection-something I was hesitant to do due to my prior bad experience. I got there and they had some stuff, not much for what I was looking for but I settled on a few things (noone asked what I was looking for or even really acknowledged me). When I went to purchase the stuff the credit card reader wasnt working. I sat around for what amounted to about half an hour waiting for the machines to restart and for them to figure out the credit card. Finally they told me that they couldnt do it. No sorry for wasting my time or anything like that. Just a, oh it doesnt work. Anyways, not pleased.

Ive been to this place a grand total of four times. Each time I leave telling myself I am never coming back. And yet I seem to find myself there at least once a year. The majority of reviewers have hit the nail right on the head. The store itself is worth checking out. An excellent selection of comics, action figures, some sports cards, a decent amount of video games and a small amount of dvds and records can be found. The previous comment about organization is correct. There seems to be some attempt at grouping, but if your hoping for some type of coherent filing system, go elsewhere. If you dont mind rummaging through piles of interesting crap, dig in! Ive spent hours just wandering around the place and still felt like I didnt see everything. The big draw back is indeed the customer service. I am a very respectful person. During my visits, I always keep to myself and only bother the staff when I am paying or when I want something that theyve locked in a case. You would think this would keep me relatively safe from their scorn. Wrong. The first time I stepped foot in the place they made some sideways comment about the shirt I was wearing. Didnt bother to greet me, simply cracked wise about my clothes. Whatever, I brushed it off. Im sure he might be a decent person outside of the store, but at work, the owner is a jerk. No professionalism, not at all friendly and at times, downright abusive to customers. I agree with the previous comment about the other employees. While not abusive like the boss, its pretty clear they dont give a rip. My advice, check this place out at least once, but unless you enjoy dealing with service that ranges from confrontational and abrasive on a bad day to dismissive on a good day, keep to yourself.
