We put a couch on layaway at the end of June, we were helped the first time we arrived by Michael- he was very nice, patient and cared about helping us find the best couch in our price range. We made one payment, and returned not even 2 weeks later to pay off the couch. When we returned to make our last payment, (we were very hopeful to leave with a couch that day as we just moved and had been sitting on the floor in our new apartment), Chris was helping us out. He did not tell us that our couch we selected was not in stock until after we made the final payment. So, of course, we were disappointed to be told we were going to have to wait a possible 4-6 weeks for our couch to arrive. At this point, we asked if we could have a portion of our final payment back due to the fact that if the couch wouldnt be there until that point. we could save our money and make a few smaller payments at a time. Another gentleman, Paul, then began to intervene. He did not want to give us our money back, even though we paid in cash. After talking with Paul for a few minutes, I asked if he knew exactly when the delivery truck came so I could keep in contact in order to get my purchase as soon as possible. He told me "Im not worried about that right now." (even though Im a paying customer) and walked away from my boyfriend and I. Chris tried to fix the situation and gave us our money back, apologizing for the inconvenience. Paul came back over as we were about to head out the door and told me that I could come back the next day and talk to a guy named Justin, then proceeded to wave my boyfriend and I away as if to say "get out of my face." We returned the next day, a little apprehensive of even wanting to continue with our purchase at this company. And then we met Justin, he was extremely nice and was upset that someone working in his store would treat us that way. He apologized several times on Pauls behalf after I explained to him what we endured the previous day. He gladly looked around to help find me a couch that I could walk out with, without having to pay anything extra due to Pauls terrible customer service. Justin ended up giving us a couch that was an $150 upgrade from the couch we had selected, and did so happily. He did not make us pay the difference. If it were not for Justin fixing Pauls wrong doings I would have never came back to make another purchase at this, or any other American freight store. But I will be back for more furniture soon- and will be looking forward to working with Justin.

My Experience Was Horrible. Got A Brand New Mattress In Plastic A Bed In A Box Brand New And A Boxspring Which Looked New But Appeared To Be Used Wasnt In Plastic... The BoXspring Contracted Bed Bug Eggs In The Bottom Inside Of Boxspring On A Piece Of Rotted Wood. All The Other Wood In The Boxspring Looked New Besides That Piece Which Had Looked like Termites Had Eaten It. As I Looked closer it appeared to be White Rice Looking Eggs All Over It With A Beg Bug Sitting On Top On The Eggs Which Were Being Laid At The Time. My house is not infested with Bed bugs the only thing that had one bed bugs and multiple egg all over the one piece of wood in the inside was the Boxspring I purchased. Through out the box spring so the bugs wouldnt hatch and I get a infestation and the next morning immediately called Portage American Frieght and asked to speak with a manager. The guy who answered the phone was rude I asked to speak with the manager and he told me that he was the manager. I begin to tell him the story and he told me it was nothing he could do to help me told me that I contracted the bed bugs in my home and also said that bed bugs come out in 72 hours and that they come from heat. But mind you guys my house is not hot nor was it bugs all over just one bug laying lots of eggs. And this was no where else in my house but on this Boxspring. Not the mattress or anything. Ill nvr purchase from this store again or recommend it. That boxspring cost me $100 and Im out of the money And I have no Boxspring. I was also told that I have to purchase a new boxspring and all they would do is pay the tax on it.

I didnt really like the fact that they contract out their delivery service. I was apprehensive about that, especially after reading some other reviews on here, but for me it turned out o.k., no issues with the delivery. I purchased a mattress protector from them because the only way to maintain a mattress warranty with anyone is to have no stains on the mattress (although, I doubt anyone backs those warranties anyway, but whatever). Anyway, I paid $70 for that mattress cover and I feel it is very poor quality for that price. It doesnt even have a vinyl lining on the back, so what is the likely hood of it protecting the mattress? You are better off buying a $25 to $30 mattress cover from Walmart and/or using a shower curtain between the mattress and the mattress cover, (no faith here that the cover they sold me will do the job).

I LOVE THIS furniture store!!!!!! I can pick and choose on what I want and how I want it I would recommend anyone to go to this store if your on a budget but want nice furniture at the same time. they do lay away no credit check if you have no credit or bad credit the warranty is excellent and they have free storage up to two years if you want nice looking furniture this is the store for you I definitely give this store a 5 out 5 costumer service is EXCLENT extremely helpful and very very polite. I would not trade this store for anything I can make a miming payment of 10 dollars a month witch is perfect for my budget definitely a good store if your moving or starting to get a place of your own for first timers. thank you guys for doing a GREAT job.

I purchased a king and queen mattress yesterday. I was pleased with the knowledge that "Justin had. However, after being informed that we were 3rd on the list for delivery but it would be delivered by the end of the day, it was not! After calling to inquire, we received a call from Justin himself stating there was and issue and one of the mattresses was damaged during a delivery. He then told us we would be first on the list for delivery today.....We are STILL waiting! Also I thought I was told yesterday that they would remove the old mattresses but with the delay I figured I would check into just to make sure and was informed that they do not! I am thinking we will NEVER being doing business with them again!

Thought this place was awesome until my last experience. I purchased a $600 couch, and was told it would be there the next day. After days and days off calling, i was finally told it would be 2 weeks. But never once was I given the courtesy of a call. I understand that things happen, but they could have given me the decency of a call to inform me. So when I was told 2 weeks (or pick a new couch), I took a trip from home (Richland) to their location in Portage, just to be told they dont have any other couch that price in stock, and mine would be there in 2 days. So obviously I was given incorrect information, and made a half hour unnesessary trip. VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS COMPANY!
