If there was an option to rate this store with no stars rather than one, I would have chosen that. That being said, I decided to stop into the local mule skinner store in Chelsea Michigan today to look at some boots. I had been meaning to stop into the store for a few days upon graduating from college last week and moving back into the area to purchase a pair of boots. Once I walked into the store I was approached by a younger guy and we traded small talk. I then began to explain to him what I was looking for. I explained how there was a pair of boots I saw Online that I really liked. He then went on to explain to me that if they didnt carry the boot, he could get it for me if I wanted. After I talked to him and looked at some boots that he suggested, I decided to run out to my truck to get my phone to show him the pair that I was looking for. Moreover, I took out my phone and began to look up the boot type to attempt to find the boot I was trying to explain to him when I was approached by a lady, that possibly was one of the owners of the store? She Immediately accused me of tagging. Which I was clueless as to what this meant. At this point I was totally confused on what she was talking about as she kept saying "you know what you are doing". I was so caught of guard by her approach that I had a hard time attempting to explain to her what I was actually doing. Not to mention my mother was with me and she was looking at some boots the she was very fond of and I was thinking about purchasing her a pair for Mothers Day. As far as Im concerned this store has lost not only my business, but my families and friends business that I have in mass in this area. I am so surprised at how these people run their business as far as customer service is concerned. I would strongly suggest they treat their paying customers with respect and not falsely accuse them of something they are not doing. I would not suggest this store to anyone after the way my mother and I were treated today. Im still in disbelief..

Twice I have been here, faced with the rudeness of the man who runs this place. Twice I have come in here, the second time against my better judgement. I am a woman carpenter who needs boots in a 7-7.5 mens size. The majority of stores do not carry this size in a mens work boot, and thus I am normally faced with the need to purchase online. For this boot purchase, I wanted to buy a Chippewas USA made boot. I came in and explained that I could only find my size online, but however I wanted to purchase an American made boot from a local shop. So, was he able to special order my size? All he seemed to hear was the word "online" and his service as a professional turned south. He explained that he could not help me, and that I should simply purchase the boot online if that was what I was going to do (which, I do not wish to purchase the boot online but rather purchase local). Once again I explained I did not want to buy it online, however he cut me off by explaining he was not able to help me. He repeatedly contradicted himself by saying "I can special order your size" and then "I cannot special order your size." I left feeling not only frustrated, but baffled why a small shop like this didnt want my money (I was planning on spending around $250 today). He ended by saying that hed rather have me purchase a boot somewhere else and be disappointed in the size rather than special order the boot through his shop and be disappointed. Firstly, I know my size in Chippewa and would not be disappointed, and secondly, is this how people run a business? By telling them to purchase things online if they dont have the correct size in stock? Even though I left in a state of complete confusion, it is clear that there wont be a third time that I set foot into this shop. Perhaps because Im not a regular in his shop, or perhaps because I am a woman buying mens shoes, I was unworthy of any professionalism.

Mule Skinner is THE answer for boots, belts, and cowboy hats in SE MI. The staff is wonderfully friendly, eager to help, and as knowledgeable as they come. Bill has personally helped me navigate a series of manufacture defect issues. The problem had nothing to do with his store but he took it upon himself to make it right. That is superb customer service! The selection is very impressive as well. As someone who has worn boots, almost exclusively, since childhood, I tend to be fairly particular about what I want in a boot. When I walk into Mule Skinner, I know that I will not only find something that meets my requirements, but they will have it by multiple brands, and in several colors. Inventory like that is not cheap or easy to maintain but it is a reflection of the dedication you will find at Mule Skinner.

I travel the country for a marketing company and wear cowboy boots every single day. Mule Skinner has been the epitome of customer service to me. Bill went out of his way to make sure I was satisfied with my gator Lucchese Classics. When I came to him with a defective pair he made sure I got them either repaired or in this case, a whole new pair made for me as quick as he could. Its always a delight dealing with them. Even just shooting the breeze is a good time. Do yourself a favor and bring your business to them. You will not be disappointed, and while youre there take a look at the holsters Bill makes. Its incredible hand-made, custom work.

Was literally bullied out of the store by the owner. I came in for a refund, which I was told by one if his employees over the phone that I would get if I brought the boots back in. The boots arrived in terrible shape. The owner was so rude and so less than helpful that I literally left shaken up. The employee who I spoke to on the phone ignored me as if he had never told me that. After spending hundreds of dollars in both their store and families wine store I am not sure my family and I will return to either. What a disappointment! I have never had worse service.

Been driving past his billboards for years back and forth between Chicago and Ann Arbor... to visit my mom. I finally stopped this Friday last. I bought the nicest pair of Tony Lamas, for a great price. I will be buying more boots in December, and will be saving up for that special pair. Bill is amazing, and so is Pam. The selection is great, the town is really nice, the prices are right, his knowledge is second to none. If you want some boots, and why wouldnt you if you are reading this... then go here. Honestly... its just an awesome place.

Some months ago I visited Houston, TX and wanted some stylish cow "girl" boots. Who knew Texans buy their cowboy boots from Chelsea, MI! I happened to be in the Detroit area recently, and found the store everyone in TX was talking about. This place is incredible. I was nervous at first--I thought it would be small townish and unfriendly. Boy was I wrong!!!! The couple running the place are awesome! They design boots, they will custom fit you. The leather is like butter. The selection is HUGE!! Thousands of boots are in this store.
