I went in to this location to purchase an umbrella. I work in the mall and figured this would be an easy trip. When I first entered this store, no one said anything to me or acknowledged me; in fact, I had to actually chase the cashier, since he walked away from me at first. Since I am not familiar with this store or its layout, I hoped that asking the cashier would be easier for me rather than walking through the entire store. I was wrong. He pointed me towards the "Gift" section and said, "theyre over in the Gifts section over there," and went back to looking at the merchandise at his register. I still thanked him and proceeded to wander around the "Gifts" section for 5-6 minutes, looking as lost as I felt. Getting a little frustrated, I went to the Sunglasses/Jewelry(?) case to ask one of the other associates for clearer directions. When I finally got her attention and asked, once again, where the umbrellas were located, she seemed a bit perplexed. She began to answer my question a couple of times, before stopping herself to think. After a few moments of her confusion, Im guessing a manager/shift manager named Katie came up to tell the hapless associate about something that needed to be done. The associate stopped Katie to ask where the umbrellas were located for me. Katie turned to me, told me that they were by the registers and then turned back around to continue talking to the associate. Even more confused, I wandered back up to the registers, still not seeing anything that even remotely resembled an umbrella. Finally, I just gave up. I decided that getting drenched in the rain would be easier than this excursion. As I was walking out, the original cashier stopped me to ask, " You didnt see any you liked?" I told him that I never found one umbrella, let alone multiples. I told him that everyone I talked to pointed me in different directions, finally being told they were at the registers. He shook his head and said, "They arent up here." I figured as much, since I didnt see any to begin with. As I walked out, he gave me a half-hearted, "Sorry." Needless to say, I will never waste my time in this store again. Had this been a secret shop in my store, it would have been a miserable failure. No interest in helping a customer or making a sale, despite the fact that I was prepared to spend $50 or more for a quality umbrella. TL;DR: I wanted an umbrella and no one seemed to know or care enough to help me find one.

My first time purchasing from Bass Pro Shop. I grew up in NYC so this should explain it and been here for about a year now. This weekend I went in to purchase a hang gun Ive been researching for some time now. I then met Randy who asked how I can be helped. After I told him what I was looking for and he pulled it from the inventory in the back, he saw to it that he explained every thing about the weapon, even how to load it..... Im a former Marine, so Im very comfortable with weapons. This also was not my first hand gun purchase. I made no mention to that and have him complete the task of walking me through this. The reason I bring this up is the Hunting Department is a fairly busy department, at the time when he was dealing with me there were quite a few people at the counter but he took the time to focus on me and the purchase, also making sure I had a good understanding of the product. I later found out that his time to leave was also cutting it close but I did not find that out until I was practically at the register ready to process the payment after all the paper work was completed. He also took the time to recommend a good shotgun for my wife to use while learning how to Trap shoot. This guy was just great! For a first time shopper, I have to say it was great experience and will continue to shop there. Thanks Randy for your great service!

The sheer volume of items and range of offerings here is staggering when you think that all of this is only about getting outside in some form or fashion. Lets start with customer service... we have NEVER had any bad experience with any employee here. And weve been shopping Bass Pro all the way back when they were in a location south of here and were prepping their boats in a closed local newspapers property! Although it can seem a little hard at times to find someone quickly, if the person you speak to is unfamiliar with the product, they will take you to someone who is or have them come to you... and they wont leave you until that person comes! Now shopping: want a new boat? How about an ATV? Shorts? Rifle? Gear to catch a shark? A new chair for you cabin retreat? Selection among any one category is huge, daunting at times, and may require help from a professional guide. Example: fish hooks Do you have any idea at all how many different types (let alone sizes!) of hooks there are? We dont, but the Bass Pro person did! He asked what we were trying to accomplish and also showed us some baits that were on sale to use. Result? Four very happy nieces and nephews catching their fish for the first time! We love this place and will keep coming back!

After waiting 30 minutes for my turn to speak with someone at the gun counter, the guy greeted me by not saying a word and giving me a look of "Im tired and what do you need". I had done some research on what would be a good conceal carry pistol and asked his opinion on a couple of them. He rattled off several names of some other guns and asked if I had ever shot any of them. I said "no", as I wanted to handle a couple of them before spending the money at the range to rent them. The guy never offered to show me any guns and after his little pitch, said "thanks for coming in". Ended up buying somewhere else where they actually took the time to listen to my questions and let me handle a couple for comparison purposes. The other place also mentioned a couple of gun ranges they thought would have the guns I was looking at available for rent. Most of the positive reviews about Bass Pro Shops seem to be about how neat the store is and a good place to take the kids. If you want knowledgeable staff who are genuinely interested in helping you get the best product for your needs, shop elsewhere.

This is from an unhappy customer. I went into the Lawrenceville, GA store today wanting to trade a handgun and/or purchase another. When I asked the salesperson (use the term loosely) to take the trigger lock off the Sig Sauer P320 9mm Claude said " We cant do that its against company policy and insurance policy". All I wanted to do was check the trigger pull and reset, but Claude simply said "Read the reviews." Im suppose to read reviews on how I will feel about the trigger pull? Asinine!! Keep in mind this was an unloaded gum and I had my Kahr PM9 to trade if theyd accept it. I left the area and went to a cashier (who seemed to know her business) to take the trigger lock off and told her that Bass Pro lost a sale and a customer. She wanted to know what happened and who was involved. She also said, "Thats not the way we do business here" The store was semi-busy, but not too busy to take a trigger lock off, let me test the pull and reset, and put it back in the case. So I got two differing stories and Bass Pro lost a sale and a customer. Shame on them.
