I searched the city of Boston high and low, for about 30 minutes, attempting to find this place which claims to have amazing "donuts." Not only were they greasy, stale, and extremely over-priced, they were not even worth the bother of having to carry them through the city as I tried to have a great rest of my day, after this awful experience. In fact, I was close to leaving the box opened on a bush, so the city pigeons can eat them. Unfortunately I do not practice animal cruelty because I would not even feed these to the pigeons on the streets. As I planned my trip to Boston ahead, this was one of the stops I was most looking forward to, and for more than $3 a donut, I expected more than a hunk of styrofoam dipped in oil with week old icing... And no, this was not just one donut that tasted like this, as I ordered a variety of flavors and they were all equally horrifying. If it were any other time of day, I would give them the benefit of the doubt that the donuts had been sitting for a while, however I arrived at 10 in the morning making the condition of the donuts inexcusable. With Boston having so much to offer, Im distraught that I wasted money and precious time purchasing these donuts, I wish someone had warned me, so this is my warning to all of you: do yourself a favor and do not go to Union Square Donuts if it is the last donut-shop on earth or if it is your only source of food to survive. Will be contacting the company to express my angiush over this experience. Thank you for your time.

Had a horrible experience the first time between the donut and the service, but waited for a 2nd try since so many people "like it." I think these people just like the idea of this horrible donut shop, or maybe these donuts are better warm...but Flat Out, Ive had two of the most over priced, bad tasting donuts ever and will never be back The parking is horrible for donuts that i wouldt cross the street for. Parking isnt their fault i know, but really....the bacon maple sucks so bad i wanted a refund on my first trip. Kanes maple bacon is far superior. This morning I drank a gallon of bourbon, oh no wait, that was the overly bourboned sea salt donut. Equally as bad. To further make this place oh so special, you watch 20 people standing there, chitchatting "making donuts", while they have ONE person waiting on people. On top of it, this girl PAYS ZERO attention. Two people in front of had to go over their order 5 times. The guy in front of me asked for a bag twice. She was too busy trying sell him coffee, she ignores him and he gets handed his donut in wax paper. I didnt even get charged! She was already taking the next order when i had to put my card in her hand to remind her. The first time i was in there this same person also tried to sell me the display donut thats been sitting there all day. Are you insane? I know youre all big bad millenials that work there, but thats a law suit waiting to happen.

Popular place, entertaining scene, good donuts. Far better than the franchised commodity competition. A bit expensive, but you shouldnt be eating so many donuts anyway, not good for you—which makes the prices quite reasonable. Limited hours, and when they run out, they run out. If you are getting on in years and have a dim recollection of a mythical doughnut that your great-grandmother made, a doughnut whose memory has only gotten better with time…no, they do not have a transcendent, life-changing pastry that can match such a standard; but that nostalgic doughnut probably wasnt hip enough to be available with bacon, either. Youve got to move on. Not the best donut in the world, but probably a contender for the best in Boston.

Dubbed as a must-visit when in Somerville by numerous City Experts and Bostonians, Union Square does not disappoint. Theyre worth a trip off the beaten path on a busy weekday, even, as I hear weekends are insane. A friend and I tried four different donuts in the interest of giving them a fair taste: Brown butter hazelnut: my favorite and just amazing. Sugar glazed: my second favorite, almost melts in your mouth. Maple bacon: Packed with flavor but very heavy. Cider donut: Nothing to write home about (maybe it was old?) Beware, the donuts are so heavy, so dont order more than one unless you can handle it. Prices are reasonable, staff sort of rushes you and seating at the current location is limited, so be prepared.

When I got to the store around 11 am one day, they didnt have a donut I wanted. They said they "were all out" but why cant they make more?!? They got a kitchen for a reason. Duh. Second of all they need to make more donuts with different flavors. They only have like 10 donuts flavors, nots even enough flavors if they want a lot of costumers. Also they have two jars saying would you rather, they just want to get extra money for letting people playing a game. Like stop trying to steal peoples money. Once I got a donut that I didnt really want it, I tried the donut. When I got to try the donut, it was so dry and not moist. The frosting was like so sweet, I needed a drink of water. This place is literally so bad.

Since the untimely death of the late, great, Billy Scantlebury of Betty Ann Food Shop donuts fame, Union Square has risen to the top of my "BEST DONUT" list. NO ONE made a donut like Billy Scantelberry...no one. But these are head and shoulders better than any other donut in New England. Which isnt really saying much as only two shops in the U.S. ever made a donut that turned my head. Recently though, the product at Union Square have tasted more assembly line" than "artisan/hand made." I spent $9 for two donuts and a partially filled cup of black coffee today and said to myself, "The owner(s) should start paying more attention."

Definitely the most unique donuts in New England! Yes, there are other famous donut places in the area, but these unusual flavors and totally unique consistencies in these donuts is a one-of-a-kind operation. Like a cross between Krispy Kreme and Kaknes. Cake donuts with a fluffy, almost doughy inside with amazing toppings. And they dont run out if you get there late. A big pet peeve of mine is places that close early on weekends. I get up early for work every day. Why should I have to rise-and-shine to get a good donut? Not with Union Square Donuts. Worth the trip.

Just went for my first time and I tried three: the Vietnamese Coffee, Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch and Coconut.... and if it was for the two later, Id probably rate it as a delicious 4 stars (because I save my 5s for the places and food that really deserve a 5)..... But the Vietnamese Coffee Donut is hands down the best donut Ive eaten! It is one of the few foods that deserve a 5, Im my humble opinion. I love coffee though, so Im 100% biased, but if youre one like me, you should definitely try it!

The donuts at Union Square Donuts are certainly creative, from brown butter hazelnut crunch (my personal favorite) to maple bacon and chocolate marble. The donuts are made with the highest quality ingredients, and it shows- especially in the vanilla bean frosting (with flecks of vanilla bean throughout), and the decadent chocolate frosting. The donuts are heavy though (basically coma inducing); often I opt for the sugar glazed donut holes so I can pace myself.
