Beans has grown handsomely since Uncle Leon patted me on the head 70 years ago (and the boots, though re-gummed. by Beans for nothing 50 years later, are still worn in a 5th generation. And theyre the latest fashion in SFO, NYC, and, yes, London!). Pendleton shirts (purchased in the 1930s) are still worn on a daily basis in Canada. As my Aunt Sibyl used to say of Beans: "Never pay for fashion; it goes out of style." Beans doesnt. Beans isnt vestments; its investments. Its worth the money now because theyre bargains half a century later, even the $12 socks! I My lifesaver orange trunks, get giggly girls begging to be saved from drowning (and Im pushing 80!). Only stores with a confident sense of humor who are sure of their products can afford NOT to sell you things you really dont need. This is a true story: Long ago, I asked my boss why hed hired a guy I thought a bit scruffy and out-of-touch, and he replied that "He knows our products, he knows the competition, and he was wearing Beans boots." He was A1 salesman for 28 years until he died in his 80s. Competence is best displayed by confidence, and Beans provides that. There are other stores carrying quality products, but we can count on Beans -- and we cant count on much else nowadays. Awkward location, but a very good branch store. Theres a good restaurant across from the drug stores; ask for directions.

I bought a pricey leather bag on-line. The return receipt says "all" customers (except LL Bean visa) will be charged $6.50 for a return. I live approx. 40 miles from any store, but store returns are free, so I decided to go that route to talk to someone in person as it is not fair to return a defective product and be left with a deficit. They did not have another product replacement in the store (I could order one, but would have to wait); I wanted (needed) the bag now, so offered to buy the defective one at a discount. They told me the bag would be sold as a second at an outlet, but would not offer me a "second" or "outlet" discount. Their best offer (after haggling) was $12.90 (10%) off the "defective bag." I spent $12.55 in gas, not to mention over an hour of my time, surely they could do better than that! 10% is a small sale, not a discount... this wasnt even discount material, this was clearly a "second." They would not. I said I would take the $12.90 off a replacement bag, but would not pay over $120 for a heavily spotted bag. They refused... they did not care. One of the workers agreed with me, but couldnt override the managers decision. Oh well, I will take them up on their remaing policy and return every thing I ever bought there...ever... they will lose more than the measily $12.90.

It is a shame that this store, and perhaps this company values their customers privacy so little. I love the merchandise, the sales help is very good, but they are very sloppy, or just plain untrustworthy to deal with. I cannot tell which. My wife and I went to the "grand opening" sale, and we bought a bunch of stuff. They asked us to,open a L L Bean Visa account, and we agreed. The clerk "Bob" told us that the computers were down, and that we had to do a paper application. I hesitated, but a women (I think she may have been a manager) came over and assured us that it would be safe. That was a month ago. After three weeks without hearing from anyone I checked with the c. c. issuer, and was told that they never received the application. I contacted L L Bean and they basically did nothing. So, did the app get lost? Did someone in the store steal it to use, or sell to identity thieves? I dont know. As for L L Bean, well. they just dont seem to care at all about it. Be very careful with these guys.

LLbean was my Go To and near sole source of apparel over a decade ago taking advantage of on-line convenience after the life altering challenges of giving birth. I commend their no nonsense quality, service and guarantees now even more so given our national disposable environment. Where convenience was my draw - that too is their area in need of tweaking. Im fast paced and often depend on Paypal. Other family members place their own orders as well but often I will make returns at store and may or may not have the same credit cards on me. Like other retailers that can apply credits via scanning receipts - Bean can not- They need to get on board! Also I find many of their pant cuts for women are unfashionably wide through thigh.

After chatting online with an associate I was told I could return my jacket for a replacement. I asked about it being bought for me from a company I used to work for and was told I would still be able to return it..I drive approximately 1 hour to the nearest store and was told I had to have the company I used to work for return it. Not contacting a previous company that fired me after 9 years to ask therm to return it. Thanks for nothing and wasting my gas and time.

Id like to rate this place less because of how high their prices are, but they truly stand by their products. You pay a premium for anything with an l.l. bean label, but if anything ever goes wrong with it, theyll replace it for free, with no hassle. You cant put a price on that. Aside from that, the staff is very helpful and friendly, and the layout of the store is well thought out. I didnt feel lost at any point in the store. Ill be shopping here again.

I have shopped at Bean for years and never had to take advantage of their return policy. This year I brought in my winter parka, circa 2004 that had worn fabric exposing the waterproofing. The staff at Mansfield was amazing. They took it in trade and gave me credit for what amounted to a new coat. I appreciate not only the company policy but Mansfields pleasant and helpful walking through the process. Every new coat will be an LL Bean.

While I like the quality of LLBean, I find the personnel at this store to be indifferent and unhelpful . The floor staff is impossible to locate if you need shopping assistance. The register staff are like robots reciting a script. If you have a return, your are put through a torturous process of interrogation .

The store carries a good cross-section of items that are in the LL Bean catalog. They stock clothes, footwear, and various types of outdoor gear. They dont have everything that is in the catalog of course, but you get to see and try on those items plus get helpful guidance from staff.

Cannot say enough about LL Bean customer service in general. We recently returned a BOB stroller after one of the straps ripped. The employees at the Mansfield store were excellent throughout the process, giving us a new stroller when the old one couldnt be fixed. Thanks!

I called for my daughter in CT. for an item catalog did not have. Rosemary from the Womens department helped me. She found the item and it is being shipped to my daughter! She was so helpful and pleasant. Another reason we love LL BEAN! Rosemary - thank you!
