Ive been going to the Holyoke Mall for years, and while I really do like how the Mall itself is set up, with a good assortment of stores, my sister ran into trouble with them recently. The parking lot is really busy and, for whatever reason, parked cars seem to get hit more often here than almost anywhere else. My sister came out of Target with a HUGE impact directly into her drivers side door, which she had trouble even getting open, and I cant even imagine how someone could hit a parked car in the side like that without also scratching paint somewhere else. She went to the main desk to report the incident and thus began two weeks of pure hell. The security team told us theyd be able to tell us who hit my sisters car from the parking lot camera footage, so we went home thinking everything would be alright. Once we got a call back from two different security workers telling us theyd found the guy who did it, we went in only to be told to talk to their supervisor, who explained to us "the security team and cameras arent here to protect you, were here to protect the mall." At first he made it sound like he simply wasnt going to tell us what the camera footage found, but later changed his story and said that the cameras outside Target happened to be "stopped" for the entire hour my sister happened to be there. We made a complaint with the head office that runs the Mall and they flew down a guy to yell at this supervisor, but Im guessing any tapes they might have had got erased and well never figure out who did it. I suspect an official Mall vehicle or perhaps someone they just want to protect hit her car, which explained why they changed their minds about telling us about the footage (which later suddenly never existed), but either way, remember the Holyoke Malls own words: WE ARE NOT HERE TO PROTECT YOU, WE ARE HERE TO PROTECT THE HOLYOKE MALL. If your child gets abducted, dont expect any help from them unless youre willing to bribe someone.

I really dig this mall. Its your typical mall: Macys, Christmas Tree Shop, Target, JC Penney, EXPRESS for men/women, Hobby Lobby, AC MOORE, Claires, Forever 21, Loft, Michael Kors, Lands End, Gap, Old Navy, Sephora, Pandora, Hannoush, Victorias Secret, Bare Minerals (exceptional), Spencers, Bath & Body Works, H&M, Banana Republic, Sears, Starbucks, etc.,. If you were to describe a mall to an extraterrestrial, here you go. Yes, of course, theres a food court. It is *not* exceptional. I dont recall any vegetarian options. The "pizza" doesnt count. The Chinese food restaurant giving away food may lure you in; ReSisT! The two times Ive eaten there, I got sick. Really Sick. Theres a pretzel shack on the 2nd floor that serves yummy pretzel bites with cheese. (Its the mall, guys). I love the architectural elements here. This place has a certain rustic charm, even though its a mall. The chairs are cool and comfy. There are unusual, real flowers and/or greenery at every rest area. Theres a huge domed sky window. I know some people come here to exercise in the early AM. I imagine it makes an interesting, tranquil environment. If you can help it, avoid this place on Saturday afternoon. Parking is a . . . hectic chore. If you can somehow get there on a weekday or night, youll save yourself a lot of stress. ▶Remember where you park! Snap a picture on your phone. You dont want to get lost. Its festive during the Winter holiday season. Theres a wonderful toy drive, "Toy for Joy," which is popular. I love them for doing this! It makes me feel like the Grinch when his heart expands.

Hey if nothing else, the place is at least a quarter mile long from end to end, so theres walking opportunities no matter what the weathers like. I used to go there when I was a student at UMass (about 30 minutes north). Back then (the 90s), if you wanted to go to a mall, the choices were usually the two in Hadley, the "alive" and the "dead" mall. Hampshire Mall was the "alive" one, it was small (maybe 50 stores, with JCPenney, Kmart (later replaced by Target) and Media Play (sadly now folded; I LOVED that place)), but served its purpose. The Mountain Farms Mall, across the street, was the "dead" one. I believe it finally closed in the late 90s and reinvented itself as a very much alive strip mall with a Walmart, Barnes and Noble, Old Navy, Whole Foods, etc. On the weekends typically, there was a third option: the "big" mall. Holyoke. Even before its major expansion in 96(?) it was impressive and the only mall that was somewhat large in all of western MA. After it expanded, I remember it being the (second?) largest in all of New England. I dont know where it ranks now, but Im sure its behind the behemoth Natick Mall and South Shore Plaza (both of which also expanded like crazy), and the newly built (in 2000?) Providence Place. All things aside, you gotta appreciate a huge, thriving mall which resides in a rather poor city (bringing in needed tax revenue and employment for sure) and attracts regular shoppers from remote parts of northern Vermont.

Well I was surprised at how empty the mall was. I use to go all the time. But I have not been in months and months. What happened to the stores. I guess if your interested in tennis shoes you have and million to pick from . Really how many of the same kind of sneaker store do you need. ???? I actually didnt buy a thing .was returning for my son . At Macy I couldnt believe how it was me and sells people. How are they staying open. Went in to 3 other stores on my way out same thing me and sells people. Wow. !! Once in a while I go to the xmas tree shop. But thats it. I own a business and I have been talking to my customers. They say the same thing ,they dont go there any more . Well this mall might stay open because all the rest of them have closed. So its the only one left in this area .but what I here is they are going to lower CT to what they call the better malls. Just saying.

Had a bag stolen by a couple with their 2 kids while in a store there today, it was caught on store video, they clearly watched and targeted my son and were experienced in what they did. The store employees were great in trying to help but when I found mall security, 3 women walking together, and reported it to them, they had no interest in helping me. Wont be back, even though we have been going for years. *Update* giving even less stars now. I contacted Holyoke to complain about their security employees being completely uninterested in helping, I got an email from a woman saying she was out of the office for the week but would pass my email along so they could follow up. That was 3 weeks ago and I havent heard a word. Be careful here, if your robbed they will not help.

Decently sized mall! The hobby lobby is unfortunate--"Christian" company my ASS, lets see it go to church (and if you mean its employees, *they* can _choose_ to refuse medical treatment they object to on an individual basis)--but the rest of the place is pretty decent especially with the Target now carrying groceries at grocery-like prices! Mall food is usually absurdly expensive, after all. Also the remodel of the floor is rather attractive. Theres extra padding under the new tiles, and I could swear it feels more supportive. Great for walking! Ive done the math, and if you stick to the upper deck of the main concourse and stick to the wall (but skip the offshoots) its almost exactly 0.6 miles per lap! Five laps = three miles! Super convenient.
