It is a challenge to describe how basically despicable the entire Whole Foods business model is. One basic example might be illuminating. Cabot Cheese is widely available everywhere, WF has it but somehow assumes it should be sold for $1.50+ more than anyone else. Your aisle experience: Be prepared to wade through a lolling spaced out mess of uber ditz Cambridge Yuppies further complicated by the airhead employees engaged in perpetual stocking with that wonderfully autistic ineptness youll come to loathe. At the Check Out: If you place a day pack on the counter to signal your intent to abide by their green shopping bag policy expect to have the hapless robot employees ask you if you want one of their paper bags. Cognitive judgement calls are frowned on. Oh and then there is sticker shock. Generally the Organic food trend is over rated as a health enhancement. Its real value lies in moving away from the more destructive and energy intensive forms of food making. Im fine with that.Im also in favor of making shorter transaction loops by engaging local farms. Fortunately the latter trend is taking off anyway. Market Basket is your ultimate food source in the jacked up urban yuppie cost structure with interesting foraging options at cool ethnic markets in Union Square Somerville, the Harvest Co op in Central Square Cambridge and Trader Js. Itll be nice to see this bloated fleece job finally take its eternal dirt nap.

Of the four Whole Foods Markets I have been to (Charles River Plaza, River Street, Fresh Pond, and Prospect Street), this is at the bottom of the list. I. Personnel: I brought two rolls to checkout only to find they added tax to them! When I asked the manager about it, he went online and said they were considered separate items and should be taxed as such. When I went home and checked online myself, I found out that was not true. [Note: Since my encounter with him, they no longer charge tax on single roll items.] They also always, always, NEVER give you a receipt unless you ask for one. Why? Lastly, one of the vegetable men could not bother to find out the price of broccoli when it was not marked on the bin. II. My favorite bakery item is strawberry shortcake. Always make sure you check the bottom of the cardboard plate to find the date it was baked otherwise the whipped cream will be stale. The last time I purchased one, the whipped cream was fresh, did not have too much sugar, but there was no vanilla! III. My favorite Whole Foods is Chas. River Plaza. Great people, selection, and always fresh strawberry shortcake. I hope the new Somerville Whole Foods will also be good - and not have any of the personnel presently at Prospect Street.

Clean and pleasant, but Whole Foods prices are ridiculous for what youre getting, and there are always way too many people in this store for the space. Ive started going to Trader Joes more and more. I get similar products for at least half the price, if not cheaper, and Ive found no difference in quality on most things. You can take the 93 bus to get to the Cambridge Trader Joes if you dont have a car. Its much nicer! I will say that you can definitely get wonderful cheese at this Whole Foods, so if youre after some damn good cheese, Id say go here every day.

Originally a Bread and Circus, it was bought by Whole Foods in the 90s. There hasnt been an opportunity to enlarge the footprint of what was a classic organic foods store (bulk and health foods; with some imported cheese for good measure). As a result, it is the size of a large specialty store, not a supermarket or big box store like many other whole foods. However, its location is a good neighborhood, accessible to several longstanding communities, means quality cannot slip.

An okay whole foods. Pretty cramped and always a bit crowded. Prices are unreasonably high just like any other whole foods. I have tried all the different kinds of milk available at this store and every single one has spoilt 3-4 days before the printed "sell-by" date. I am guessing their storage practices are to blame. Avoid. If you have the excess cash to burn, go to HMart on Central or the Coop instead. If you want to save, go to Market Basket in Somerville.

A store that really feels like a grocery store should! The aisles may be smaller than the other 2 Cambridge stores, but I can find everything easily and dont feel like Im in a food museum when I shop here. It reminds me of the old school natural food store thing. The service is great and the food always fresh, and it feels like a community market!! But im a little biased as Ive been shopping here for over 4 years...

It is the closest grocery store for me so I went there often before... Until I was trying to avoid using paper bags so I bought a reusable bag. Twice after that, I was rudely asked to pay for the same bag again during checkout. It was something like "you know you have to pay for that". WTH, the stuff is already over priced and I am trying to steal a 99c bag? Poor staff training at the best.

Stupidly expensive. Stupid labeling. Did you know you could get gluten free deodorant? Well now you do. Hopefully well see this place decline and pivot away from this model of trendiness (one in which they throw out produce with even the smallest defect) and pretend to care and have values other than squeezing every last cent of profit margin from their customers.

I just moved to cambridge ma about a week ago. this was my first time shopping in this particular whole foods store, so I dont know my way around it yet. the gentleman employee who helped me shop was very helpful and courteous. I found what I wanted and then he rang up my purchases. thank you. :) the store is not far from where I live and I plan to come again.

This fairly small Whole Foods is great if youre not picky about what you want to pick up for dinner. But, the limited selection means that for baking or if you have specific cooking recipes in mind, theyre unlikely to have everything on your list. Produce and meat are high quality, and the prices are what youd expect for Whole Foods.

Nice little Whole Foods for when you need some quick groceries near Central Square. Theyre also open later than the other Whole Foods in the area, which is a plus for late-evening needs. Unfortunately no alcohol! Stocked items vary though - sometimes havent been able to find a yogurt or milk that I usually get from the River St shop.

Small for a Whole Foods. I get lunch here a few times a month. The salad bar is impressive, but Ive gotten ill many times from products in their prepared food area. The produce is fresh and well kept, as is the dairy and meat sections. If they improved their food safety for prepared meals, Id give them a better score.

For a pretty small Whole Foods, they do a good job of having pretty much everything you would want. I probably end up here a few nights per week, because its so close to my place. But like any Whole Foods, it isnt cheap. So I still do my big grocery purchases at Trader Joes or Market Basket.
