I was just in Tags Hardware this morning. Sorry about the one star but one bad apple.... Heres what happened. As I walked in, I was approached by a man that asked if he could help me. His speech was so fast, I had to ask him to repeat himself. He told me what I was looking for was downstairs. I went downstairs, inquired with a nice (but busy) clerk who gave me directions to the item I was looking for. Got it and proceeded upstairs. Heres the clincher....went to the checkout....was asked if I had some type of rewards account. No, I do not have one. Checked out and was given the price. insert my chip card, picked up my item and that was IT. What was IT you may ask? No thank you...no come back to visit us soon...nothing. NADA! Actually, the would love to be some place other than here look didnt surprise of the no gratitude for shopping there. hmmmm..!!! I wanted to report this in a survey, but unfortunately that is not included on their receipt like most other businesses. Hmmmmmm, again!

this place has HUGE potential to be incredibly useful and fun for its customers and massively profitable. Its too bad that the customer service they offer is about on par with what you might expect from a parking meter maid in terribly bad mood. Save but for 1 or 2 lonesome individuals who manage to eke out the bare minimum in basic courtesy, Tags is staffed with a platoon of folks so rude you cant help but sometimes wonder, "am I being punkd?" if you need a box of screws and feel up for some serioiusly creepy attention from the most conspicouus loss prevention staff to youll ever be stalked by, and if you dont mind paying 35% more than you would at the next closest hardware store--IF they even have any screws in Stock to sell you, then Tags is the Ace Hardware for you. (or take the train 1 stop inbound and hit the Ace in Harvard square, where youll at least get a warm smile as they rake you over the coals for every dime that can shake out of your pockets.)

Ive been to Tags a few times and had mixed experiences with service. The staff usually at least tries to help, although sometimes they cant answer basic questions. But today, I was unpleasantly surprised. Eversource is sponsoring a promotional discount on LED bulbs. I noticed them in a display downstairs, the price was good, so I added ten of them to my basket. I was checking out when a different cashier interrupted by just saying, "Twos the limit." This was news to my cashier, and news to me, since there was no information in the display about a limit. I mentioned this, and the second cashier just repeated herself, "Twos the limit." She did not apologize. She was unpleasant. She showed me another display upstairs that did have a sign about the limit--as if I should have seen this other display and therefore should have known. She said she was a supervisor, which does not say much for customer service at Tags.

Good hardware store/home goods store with attentive customer service. Upstairs is full of house stuff and had a good assortment of quality kitchen appliances, closet organizers, sewing supplies cloth goods, etc at reasonable prices. They even carry by vacuum bags cheaper than Amazon! 5 stars for upstairs. Downstairs is the hardware store, which is hit or miss I often come in with high expectations but leave with them lowered. For example I find the non-SS a la carte fasteners to be weak and prone to rounding, but boxes seem OK, and limited supplies for fixing/hanging in lathe + plaster walls (big Wallys and a slaked lime plaster mix would be super additions-also stocking more buckets...). On the other hand paint department is super, selection of lightbulbs and electrical cables and boxes is good, and the staff does their best. 3 stars for downstairs.

My experience with Tags has been that they provide terrific service. So, when I really dont know what I need to get, and I need help, I dont mind paying a little bit more here. My sense is that they are overstaffed, which means their costs are probably high. But contrast this with the non-existent service at Home Depot, and you realize what a value you get here. Honestly, I dont think they are any more expensive than other hardware stores for typical hardware items (bolts, paint, tools, etc). I bought a Weber grill at Tags for exactly what other stores were selling it for. And the experience is so positive that I keep going back.

I live in Porter but always drove to Target for home goods. Believe me when I say the selection at Tags blows them away. I find the items to be of better quality. You may pay a bit more but I feel that it is for things that you actually want and will enjoy instead of whatever is cheapest or available. I enjoy talking to knowledgeable sales people and have always had the friendliest of service

Service in the hardware store section is horrible. If youre a woman, that is. Theyre extremely condescending and unhelpful. I went in looking for nuts, and had to explain multiple times until the guy understood what I needed, even though I was extremely clear. They also have "special" tools for women--miniature hammers that wouldnt accomplish anything and are covered in pastel flowers...

This is one of the best stores around, family owned, well managed and a pleasure to visit. Staff are assigned to float the store to help customers. (Whoever panned the hardware section was cranky that day.) Ive always had knowledgeable help, unlike in any medium to megastore chain I have visited. Tags staff seem cheerful working at Taps. Heres to locally owned, well managed staff!

This place usually has what you need, and when they dont theyre pretty decent about it, although their selection is oddly split between hardware and housewares and isnt stellar at either as a result. As far as small neighborhood hardware stores (ie anything not in a warehouse) its more than decent.

Simply the best hardware store in the area. They have everything from kitchen appliances and bathroom supplies upstairs to nuts and bolts downstairs. If youre lucky, they often have free popcorn for you to munch on while you browse around.

Ive been coming to this Tags for years. They have always had everything I need to complete whatever project I am working on. Not to mention, they have an excellent selection of kitchen accessories! The staff are always helpful.

Perhaps the best hardware store in Cambridge. Theyve got a screws and bolts and nuts and washers in almost all sizes, along with other eclectic things like wire and rope and wooden dowels. Hit it.

This place is full of all the of the goodies youd love to stock your pad with when you finally get that pay raise, as well as your standard hardware stuff. Its also very professionally managed.

Very helpful employees and great hardware selection. Only complaint is that a couple of times, Ive been left on hold for a long time when calling them.

Always quickly find what I need. Expensive. Staff is friendly but not expert. Great place if you have a small job & cant get to Lowes/Home Depot.

A lot of the stuff here, especially in the upstairs housewares section, is way overpriced. Youll find the same stuff elsewhere, much cheaper.
