Do you ever imagine taking your perfectly fine car to a maintenance service and it returns broken? This is my experience with the Sears auto center at Burlington mall. I took my Sienna mini van for an oil change at the auto center as it is close to my work. While I dropped the car, I saw an post on the wall promoting a discounted price for maintenance services. My car is due a 30K service so I decided to get a maintenance service instead. As I later found out, this discounted price is still 20% more than the price offered by my Toyota dealer. I picked up the car after work and went to pick up my son. When my son tried to open the side door, he found the power door was not working. I recalled that right before I dropped the car at Sears auto center, I opened all doors to pick up trashes under the seats in case they were going to vacuum the car as some oil change services do, and everything was working fine at that time. I called sears auto center the next morning to inquire about all these and was told their work would not touch anything to cause the failure of the power door. Anyway they agreed to take a look at the fuses. I brought it in and they examined the fuses and found nothing wrong. They told me they would have nothing to do with the failure of the power door and they do not know how to fix it. I described what happened to a person who said hes a manager there. He restated what the other technicians told me that their work would not have anything to do with the failure of the power door. It must be such a coincidence all these happened. He offered $50 for me to bring the car to a dealer. Now having read all the other reviews I am more convinced this is not an oddly timed coincidence, but more a consistent showing of the quality of work there.

I dont know why people who get their front tie rod ends replaced do not expect an automatic requirement for an all wheel alignment. It is a major component of the leading steering components of any automobile. In addition to that, other components of the front end suspension - too many to list here - will also require an alignment: struts, bushings, ball joints, etc. I have owned three cars since 1994 that all had their tires replaced at Sears, simply because they were always the best deal around. In addition to that, I was an elite automatic transmissions re-builder for 23 years, and have a more perfect understanding of what is involved in the automotive world. Of course theyll recommend an alignment after a repair like that. Theyd be idiots if they didnt. And the consequential wear and tear on the vehicle without it is competent evidence that they are telling you the truth. I have been getting my tires at Sears for more than 20 years on several different cars. They were always the best deal around and I could verify their installation competency through my own knowledge of it. If you know how to communicate with them properly, you cant go wrong.

I HAD MY 80 YR OLD MOTHER GO IN THERE FOR A VERY NOISY ALTERNATOR. SHE CHECKED IN AND INITIALLY TOLD HER THEY COULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE. I TALKED TO SOMEONE ON THE PHONE WHO BARELY SPOKE ENGLISH AND I TOLD HIM THE ALTERNATOR BEARING WAS SCREAMING AND COULD HEAR IT 500 FEET AWAY, LITERALLY. THEY WERE TRYING TO GET HER TO DO AN ALIGNMENT AND SOME TIE RODS- TOTAL COST $1000. I DROVE DOWN THERE TO GET AN EXPLANATION WHY THE HUGE ESTIMATE. I TALKED TO THE TECH. HE COULD NOT GIVE ME A BREAK DOWN ON HOW MUCH THE ALTERNATOR IS AND HOW MUCH LABOR WOULD BE. HE SAID CAR NEEDED TIE RODS. I ASKED HIM WHICH ONES. HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO SAY. I ASKED HIM INNER, OUTER, LEFT OR RIGHT? HE SAID ONE OF EACH. THE PRINTOUT HE GAVE US BACK HAD NOTHING ABOUT PARTS OR LABOR FOR THE ALTERNATOR NOR THE TIE RODS. I ASKED HIM HOW MUCH LABOR RATE IS THERE HE SAID $120/HR. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE MERCEDES DEALER. IT NEEDED ALIGNMENT, ALTERNATOR- COST $578 AND SHE GOT A FREE CAR RENTAL THE SALES REP AT SEARS WAS CLEARLY TRYING TO RIP MY MOM OFF AND ONE SHOULD BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. SOME SEARS AUTO CENTERS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS, THIS ONE IS NEGATIVE 5 STARS.

Went in to replace my brake pads. Through the window, I saw them work on my car. Then they left it idle while elevated on the lift for nearly over an hour. At the top of the next hour, I saw a technician rush to put the tires back on, a few minutes later the car was all set. They also aggressively tried to convince me that a $80 wheel alignment was necessary since the tires would be removed as they accessed / replaced the brakes. What?? This $20-$30 service (which is often free/complimentary at other shops) was completely unnecessary as I did not complain about a drift nor was I getting new tires or rotating them. When I declined, the salesman gave a disapproving look mentioning something about safety.. ??? They dont care about your safety, they just want your money. These people are dishonest, sneaky with extra labor charges and services that you dont need. I will not return here ever again!!

Absolutely terrible service, called ahead as a screw had punctured my tire and was causing it to leak quite a bit of air. Customer service representative told me no problem, bring it in today and should take about an hour when we have time. I was so grateful because multiple shops told me no chance of having it done today. I drove half an hour to get to Burlington only for them to rudely tell me it wasnt getting done today since they were hours behind. I was even told when I called that it was a slow day. Also, the screw was in an easy repair spot, most likely just needed a repair plug as if was not in the treads or side. Then when I asked if there was anybody nearby who might be able to help me out he just shook his head. 10 seconds of googling later, I went to Herb Chambers down the road and they took care of it in 20 minutes. Will never return to Sears for service.

Im doing a review for them after I was seen a couple months ago. I try to my visits to these types of places as less hectic as possible. I dont show up unexpected, I call well ahead of time and let them know and ask what would be a good time. I dropped my car off for a couple of days and let them get to it when they can. What these people do isnt a rushed art, and if you rush or keep calling, something might get overlooked or missed. One of the gentlemen there called me to let me know that my car was next, called me afterwards to let me know what happened and even pointed out some things that should be done in the next year. I showed up, paid, and havent had a problem since. Ill be back in again to get some more maintenance done, but its kind of like, you dont piss off the people who cook your food kind of rule haha.

We got a flat tire on our family vacation. It was a Sunday, the day before we were scheduled to drive 6 hours home. I called the Sears Auto Center at the Burlington Mall the moment they opened Monday morning. They took our car right in, even though there was a long line of customers. They discovered a nail in the tire and patched it up quickly. We were fully expecting to get taken advantage of, sold new tires and all kinds of extras -- they knew we were in a hurry and we would do just about anything to get our kids home. Im still amazed that the whole ordeal cost us so little -- less than the cost of a tank of gas! I cant thank them enough for their integrity and kindness. Its nice to know there are still some honest people out there in the world. Thank you!
