Three hour bike purchase?! To start with the positives, Emily was my sales person, nice and pleasant person, I got a fair trade value for my bike, though I had to negotiate. Once the deal was done, they took off my components ( pedals and rear rack) from my old to new to me bike in no time (15-20 min) even with my confusion, they started on the other bike I was considering which was my bad. Get to Gorham Bike and Ski a little after 10:30 Wednesday June 12th I came into Gorham Bike and Ski to trade from my Gary Fisher, it was a couple years old, road it only a couple times but it was nothing special entry level bike , To get into a more pavement bike. There was only Emily there as a sales person. Though there where couple other employees doing stuff. I told her what my I was looking to do. She directed me to the used Bikes. Saw there there where two my size and price ranged. Went in told her there where ones that interested She wanted to hook me up to get measured, make sure I get the size bike for all my dimensions, as a sales person I can appreciate a process, though I wanted to check out the used bikes she just had me look at. While this was going on credit to Emily had to multi tasking other customers;Which for the whole time I was there probably only cost me half hour ish of my time. She then tried to show me ones in the show room and talked about financing. None of which I was interested in. I told her I appreciated her showing me “ the in stock units” but the used bike I was interested I believed where in my size. I tried them on after Emily pumped the tires and inspected their dimensions. The second and last one I tired was great. Time to show you my bike for trade in value. 11:15-11:30 Brought my trade in bike in waited for a Mechanic to appraise it. After what must have been 20 minutes I ask what was going on. I was told that the mechanic were in a meeting. After another 15 minutes or so I asked Emily how long she expected the meeting to be before I could get my bike appraised. She told me at least a half hour???!! In a soft voice I commented are there working on a five year plan Emily laughed, I went and got a banana to past a time and hold me over didnt think was going to mess with my day plans. Came back waited, left again always communicating to call me as soon as they can. Came back waited ran into a friend who as me what I was doing there. This is when one of employee brought it down to the mechanics downstairs lair to get checked out rather then them come up and appraise it. Was that all I needed to do was have a friend with me so that you know I could say bad things so you guys do something, which sounds crazy but that was the result. Part of me wishes I didnt use my manners. 12:30-12:45 A mechanic meet with me, his attitude was less than gracious, and felt like I cut him off on the way to a concision stand. It took him two second to appraised my bike. The value wasnt great wasnt bad but hey there isnt a lot of room to go down when it max of a 500-600 retail 2-3 years ago. I managed in a somber tone to to get an extra fifty after requesting more if I went with the more expensive one, as well as mentioning I have been waiting. He mentioned he apologizes for that. Didnt seem like there was a care about the total experience . I said Id do it on the less expensive bike if I got store $50 credit for , which his response was,” I already said Id stretch to 150” , That mechanic meeting must have been rough , but hey Ill shrug it off. I extended my hand,he looked disinterested as we shock hands, twice. Really man. 1:30. Out with most of my day off spent. Feeling like I troubled them for business.

This is a copy of a message sent to GB&S via Facebook a month ago regarding a poor first time experience with their shop last month, April 2014... No response yet, nothing and Im not expecting to heat back from them as I am not made of money. "My wife and I and two sons were in your store for the first time this afternoon. It was busy, there were many employees hurrying around tending to customers, but we left after walking around your entire store. In about 15 minutes we were never once greeted, nor could I even draw the attention of one of your employees for a simple hello or a smile or a can I help you, etc. As a result we left feeling completely ignored and disappointed and pretty well not wanted after having walked in excited. We were in the store to develop a relationship with a local bike shop, to ask for advice for bikes for our two sons and my wife and eventually a new ride for myself, but sadly left feeling no connection with your business. I just wanted to say that I was disappointed and perhaps suggest that your employees should try to greet people who walk in your doors or best yet, those who fruitlessly walk the entire circuit of your showroom with no contact. We went to another local bike shop, had a good conversation after having been greeted and eventually got home with two new bikes for our sons. You lost our business today and we felt so unwanted that I doubt I will be back again even though I will eventually be in the market for a new Specialized. I will search out another Specialized dealer even if it means that I will have to travel out of state. Yours, Brendan T. Burke"

I was brought up believing that if you could not say anything nice about a person, dont say anything at all. So, by rights, I should not write anything more. Did not buy a bike here, but came here for service. The service staff is snooty and pretentious and if your bike is not worth at least $1500, they want nothing to do with you. Brought my bike in for a tune up, first I was told they were backed up for weeks. When I asked how long it would take, I was told they could not do my bike at all, "too low end to bother with". This is actually the second time this has happened to me at GB&S. The first time it took repeated calls to the service department manager before I got my bike service, and he had to do it himself because the rest of the staff would not degrade themselves by working on a cheap bike. My bike is only a $200 department store bike, but I put in nearly another $200 in upgrades. I only use it to ride to work and back, and do not need, nor can I afford (on a monthly SSDI cheque) a bike costing thousands of dollars. That, however, is what you must have to get courteous, competent service at Gorham Bike & Ski. The only reason I take it there and put up with their attitude, is that I live within a couple of blocks or the store. I am disabled, do not drive, and would have difficulty getting to a different dealer.
