Ok, so I was recentley looking for a local pet store and came across animal house on google. I started scrolling through the reviews, as I usually do when coming across a new place and kind of laughed at a few peoples bad expierences. These reviews tasked about how rude the woman is, how weird the kid is, and how loud the man is. I laughed and just chalked those up as bad expierence for those few people because there were a few good reviews for the place. Boy was I wrong. After I was hit in the face with the most wretched smell after walking in. The boy at the counter quickly jumps up, walks around the counter and stands in my way asking me what I would like. Ibe never been greeted so uncomfortably in my life. I felt like if I didnt give him an answer, he wasnt going to let me walk around into the store. After I told him I wanted to check and see what kind of fish they had, I walked over to the fish tanks. On my way over I asked the man working if they had any discus in stock. He said nope, and maybe sometime next week. I shrugged my shoulders and said, alright well, Ill check out what you have. Since then I was watched like a hawk by the woman in there. Its like she thought I was going to steal something. Not to mention the uncomfortable yelling back in forth that the family did with eachother while I was in there. Just to be friendly, I asked the lady if they had a certain type of fish that I already have in my tank. She said she did and showed them to me. I asked if she wanted to see a picture of my full grown fish from my phone, she said no, I dont think I do. Ive been running a pet store a long time and know what they look like. I was just being friendly, trying to have a conversation. And after that walked out. Id rather order the fish I want online and pay the shipping price than to give these rude people my money. I dont know how they are still in business, but that isnt how you treat customers.

This store has everything you could want in a Local Fish Store. I only do aquariums these days, so I cant speak for the other pets but Im sure they are in great shape assuming they are up to the standards of the Aquariums. Having kept aquariums for 23 years and worked at a pet store that focused on aquatics for about four years, I would consider myself a decent judge of what makes a good fish store and what doesnt. The family that owns this store put everything into it, it shows. Yes, there might be some smell, but you know what? Animals smell, so just get over it. The aquaria are clean and the fishes overall health is excellent. This is due to the fact that the owners have knowledge and put it to use, they know how to care for their animals and to teach their customers how to care for their pets they purchase from them. The selection of Freshwater species is also the best in town right now. Elsewhere you may find some decent specimens, but your only going to get popular animals (not that there is anything wrong with that). If your looking for something more rare, the Animal house probably has something for you, and if not, they will most likely be able to order it for you if at all possible. Unfortunately there isnt much here for Saltwater and Reef keepers, but they have had saltwater in the past and may again in the future. Again, coming from personal experience in the fish store industry, saltwater is very resource intensive both time and moneywise so I can understand a need to focus on freshwater. They also stock the better dry goods, the ones that really work well, not just what some of the big companies want to clutter up the shelves of the big chain stores. In conclusion, if your into freshwater fish of all types, Animal house has excellent selection and quality, I highly recommend them.

I looked up the reviews on this place before I went in. I was really skeptical with the negative reviews but am starting up a fish tank and really wanted to look all over for the perfect fish, plus I love supporting the mom and pop shops if I have a chance. I hade decided on a cichlid tank and had bought a two already for the tank. We opened the door to a small, foul smelling, and seemingly dirty pet store. Im not sure what the rest of the store looked like as the lady at the front counter jumped from her desk in front of me blocking off access to the remainder of the store. She asked what I was looking for, trying to forget how rude she was coming across I just told her about the tank and chiclids. She then asked "what kind do you have?" Told her african but I wasnt sure of the specifics so I told her the colors and would try to look up on my phone what specific type. Before I could even do that she started telling me the ones I had would eat hers and just stared at me. Im not a fish expert by any means, but I do know there are several different species and several of them with the same colors so there is absolutely no way she could know just by colors. She made it very clear I wasnt welcome in that store so I just left with her still glaring at me. I will not be back. The best part of small stores is their customer service and knowledgeable staff. This place had neither. Maybe other reviews are right and they have amazing fish, but I couldnt even get past the front door.

This place is a disgrace. Ive bought only supplies from this place before, but after todays experience I will never ever go there again. The animals are in HORRIFYING condition, with plenty of dead hamsters in overcrowded cages. Parakeets in a small cage meant for 1 or 2 had at least 10. All the reptiles had heat rocks (that can short out, over heat, and burn the animal) and plenty of animals without water. The small mammals had no hiding places to avoid stress or light, the chinchillas water bottle was covered in mildew and overcrowded. The only section that looked passable was the fish. Now lets mention the service. I was there a few weeks ago to buy water dishes. I work at a pet store and was looking for some variety in my naturalistic reptile terrariums. I was there just a few weeks ago and bought something, and when I came back today they followed me again around the store like I was going to shoplift or something. I had my friends with me, and I was distracted by the terrible animal conditions to notice what they later informed me of. Apparently one of the owners was telling his kid/employees to "Get us out of there" and was being very rude. They cornered us while I was picking out hamster supplies and finally I just picked something and bought it and got out of there. My friends informed me just how rude they were being to other customers and to us, even though I wasnt paying full attention. I wish I hadnt given them my business, and I never will again.
