Im working on a project and I ask my gf to go to Menards and get a sheet of XPS panel insulation. She drives all the way out to Menards to get it, spends 10 minutes trying to ask someone where its at, and between TWO different employees, they cant figure out where a sheet of insulation is supposed to be. So they end up telling her they dont have it! They freaking lied to her instead of doing their job!! How do I know they lied? Because I immediately called up that Menards and asked how much they had in stock. Got transferred from the operator to building supplies. I tell the building supplies guy I need XPS foam (remember, this is his area he works in, so he should know this stuff) and he has NO idea what Im talking about. No problem, I explain its panel foam...kind of like compressed insulation. He says, "Oh, the pink stuff!" I want you to take 3 whole seconds let that sink in. 3 employees working at a hardware store, none know what XPS insulation is AND the one guy who works with it calls it "the pink stuff". The professional is off the charts right now. Next time I come in, Ill ask if they have any pink stuff. So he tells me that have over 100 panels available in the store. Now that I know they have it, I ask to speak with the store manager. I explain that my gf was in there less than 10 minutes prior to my call and asked for this item. She was told by 2 different employees that the store doesnt have it. Then I have the building supplies guy tell me that have over 100 panels of "the pink stuff" in stock. The managers immediate response was "She must have talked to one of the guys outside of building supplies". Well, being your subject matter experts dont know what XPS is and calls it "the pink stuff", I think weve found the problem. I got the standard canned "Im very sorry for the inconvenience." No compensation for the 1/2 hour of gas wasted coming and going from their store due to laziness. Nothing to try and fix the hour wasted. I dont care if Im one block from this store, I will drive the extra distance just to give my business to Lowes or Home Depot instead. Absolutely unbelievable. If you want to go in there and waste your time with a bunch of people that dont know what their doing, dont CARE what their doing, and will openly and willingly lie to you so they dont have to deal with you, then go ahead. Ive done all I can by warning you guys about this and sending a letter to corporate. Side note: Ive been to the Menards on the SW side many times and never once had an issue with any of their employee (let alone 3 of them in one night)

Called about plywood and needed a specific size, before I could finish I was interrupted by the clerk and told "we dont do that". No sizes were given or prices liked I asked. I called because I need it for a bed and didnt want to drive all over the place. Its okay because Lowes got my business and didnt make me feel like a dumb female. Home Depot didnt answer the phone, their review is next.

Dont expect staff to know what theyre doing unless you go during the day and speak to department regulars. Also, expect that you will go home without some of the parts that you need as out-of-stock is endemic in this store, and youll be directed instead to drive to their other area store 30 minutes away. How the other store always have stock and this one doesnt is beyond me...

Bought about $450 in deck hardware. During build realized I was missing a couple items so called in to see if I left a bag. Nope. Stopped in a couple days later and Front End Chris took a few minutes to check video and see the bag dropped behind something. Refunded me with a smile. Very courteous considering I am probably one of many who forgot something at the store. Thanks!

They treat their employees poorly. One young man scratched the fork lift and now has to pay $200 to fix it cause he was honest and said that he did it. Others have scratched it up and they are not having to pay anything. I for one will not be spending my money with a company like this.

Have a good selection of products however it seems that the store is laid out in such a way that I can never easily find what Im looking for. The location of certain items just does not seem very intuitive however the staff is usually friendly and helpful

Store ran out of 1x2s green treated. Cant rip 1x4s in half. Get a goddamn table saw (or a mitre saw that can be turned 90 degrees to rip boards) instead of sending me to the Cedar Rapids Menards that had 41 1x2s, all of which were badly warped garbage.

Usually I would put a 5-star rating, but since now I have to walk out in 1 degree weather just to see what I want for insulation!?! This is where I stand, this may work in some southern states but not in Iowa. Im surprise I dont give it a lower rating.

This store has the friendliest employees. Always helpful. When my family comes from back east to visit they have to go to Menards to see what they just have to have.

Nice store with lots of stuff. Good for home reapairs, lawn & garden. Prices are pretty good. Staff can be hard to find at times.
