Altoona, IA Store-- Let me tell you about a recent. I went in to pick up a cover for my boat that I had used about 4 times for less than 200 miles when it started to rip (even though it was said to be "trailerable") when I turned it in (thank goodness its been within the warranty). I was met at the service counter after ringing the doorbell by a man who greeted me by saying "Whats up?". After finding my box and handing it to me, I stated to turn around to leave when I thought about walking out the front door with a box and did he have a way to get me through the registers. When I turned back around, he had already disappeared. Turned out I was okay though (going through the checkouts) as when I got up there the cashier was almost too busy texting to acknowledge me as I passed by with the box telling her I had picked it up in back. She DID look up, stated "alright" and went back to her texting. This whole thing stems from the purchase of a $20K pontoon boat. I realize that SOME people may buy one of these every couple of years, but for me it represents a significant investment. At the time of the sale I was actually misled by the salesman who told me a larger engine wasnt needed on my boat in order to pull a tuber (even though I was asking about getting a bigger, more expensive motor that was still within the recommended limit on my boat). Turns out that there is NO WAY that I am able to pull a tube with 25% less power than I wanted and even more-- it wasnt that I *shouldnt* order a larger engine... turned out that it wasnt available at the time I placed my order. This little factoid was provided by a *service representative* at a later time-- when I asked about upgrading to a larger engine and how much it would cost me-- $6K. Ironically I am a VIP member of Bass Pro and have been for over a year but thanks to terrible customer service, dishonesty in the sale of my boat, and the unwillingness to make things right, I have not shopped there in over 6 months and never plan to again in the future. I would advise anyone against making a substantial purchase at a Bass Pro without having EXTENSIVE knowledge about the product you are buying before speaking with a salesperson. I am currently in the market for some high-end sporting goods to the tune of a couple thousand dollars, wouldve gone back had I received better treatment, but I am going to Jax Outdoor Gear instead-- much better service, higher quality, and more convenient for me anyway.

I bought a brand new all welded Tracker Jon Boat (model 1754) for just under $4,000 dollars back in August 2013. The guys in the garage tried to physically pick the boat up and place it on my trailer. In doing so, they broke my trailer lights and never offered to replace them or even fix them! To make matters worse, they adjusted my trailer bunks using a cordless drill after I told them to use an electric (plug in) drill. This may seem petty but anyone who owns a boat understands the repercussions of using a cordless drill to adjust bunks. Cordless drills have very little torque which means the bolts are more likely to slip and move. However, because they knew it all, they refrained from listening to reason. After 200 miles guess what happen, my trailer bunks loosened which left the boats hull resting on my wheel wells; again, causing more damage!! Because of their arrogance, I had to take the boat off of the trailer and use an electric drill to fix the issue! Thanks Bass Pro for not listening to the customer. I have owned and purchased boats for more than 20 years. BUYERS BEWARE!! These guys have good customer service on small items but as far as boats are concerned, they are BRAIN DEAD. I wouldnt recommend anyone ever trust the inexperience of this company with any boat! Ill spend my money someplace else; these guys are MORONS!! I would like to warn all you folks that the paint on this model is AWFUL!! This boat has only been in the water four times (never beached or ran through anything other than lake water) yet the paint is chipping off the bottom as if it’s been beached 100 times. Thanks Tracker boats! It’s not only the bottom of the boat that’s chipping; it’s the sides as well. I haven’t even been hunting with it, just some small lake fishing. I’ll never buy another tracker as long as I live! Thank God the welds are guaranteed for life. I’ll only have to worry about the rest of the boat crumbling around them!

I called bass pro shops in advance to ask how long it would be before they can work on my boat motor. They said it will be about a week. I bring in my boat with the motor attached. I walk in to the marine entrance with a guy staring at me while detailing a boat. He doesnt say a word. I walk to the office to see a guy on his computer who couldnt be any less pleased to be there. I tell him I got a Mercury 9.9 and it doesnt circulate water like it used to and it doesnt go into gear like it should. He asks "are we talking about a boat motor or what? I guess I assumed Mercury 9.9 automatically meant boat motor in marine talk when it came to a man working in this department at this store but maybe Im wrong. He asks where the boat is and I say its about 100 feet away attached to that blue car. He asks me to bring it to the building so I did. He says he cant work on it (after I already called and hauled it 23 miles one way.) His reason was the transom was rotting away and they would have to disable the motor by law when they see this. I ask if I can take the motor off and have you work on it. He said it is law that they cant put the motor back on there. If he didnt want my business, they could of just said that

Good selection on lots of things, but when you live 2 1/2 hours from the nearest store and your membership points expire, it truly defeats the purpose of having them. I am disappointed in the lack of selection of equipment for left-handed people...this makes it hard for someone like me to even think about doing something like archery or bowhunting. Additionally, very few of the clothes in the ladies department are as functional for outdoor use as the mens. Shirts so thin you can see through them, very few moisture wicking options, flannels are never lined like some of the mens and apparently no other larger women ever go outdoors so finding 2x UnderArmor, Columbia, etc in a ladies cut or even just plain functional is next to impossible. And dont ask me to go online to shop for womens sizes--you and I know thats a crock of BS because unlike mens clothes, no two shirts or pants in the same size EVER fit the same, and Im not playing the shipping back and forth game whether its on my dime or theirs, and I dont have time to drive 4 1/2 hours round trip for a piece of clothing. The kids really enjoyed watching the fish get fed, though.
