Made a trip down from Lafayette to explore Indy a little and found this place on a quick Google search for "Indianapolis breweries." I knew we had to stop by. Walking in, I had an initial gut reaction of Oh, god. Are we in the right place? when the front room was full of a bunch of kids gathered around a TV, giving off the vibe that we were walking into a family activities center. (Nothing against family activity centers.) What Books & Brews really gets right is providing that special sort of transition, where you walk into the back and it almost feels like youve stepped into a secret club youre not supposed to know about. It feels almost like the worlds best club for introverts--though the crowd was really friendly and warm, dont get me wrong. The two most significant areas for improvement: 1) book selection and 2) lighting. I know that the books are secondary for Books & Brews, but this could be a really magical (sorry, cant help it--all the Harry Potter references on their menu) destination if they beefed up their selection a bit (particularly in the fiction area). The lighting is a relatively minor note, but it made an otherwise really cool place feel a little sterile. Im excited to check this place out again sometime in the future! Great staff, great concept, good beer. Cant wait to see it developed a little more.

I may be biased since I am a mug club member, but this place has to be my favorite brewery in Indy. The atmosphere is super laid back and the staff are always so nice and helpful. I had a shirt that just didnt fit me right and even though it had been two weeks later they let me swap it out for one that fit. The beer rotation is excellent and this is a great place if you want to try something new each time you go. Finally, the selection of games they have is so beyond comprehensive. Each time I go Im able to play a new game Ive never even heard of before and enjoy while I nurse their delicious beer. Love this place dearly.

The flagship beers are no longer brewed on site. They are now mass produced by Flat 12 and you can taste it. The flavor and the passion is gone. Its been replaced by mediocre beer that tastes of desperation and stretched resources. For only being opened three years Books and Brews has decided to rapidly expand to new locations and with that expansion the charm and quality has been kicked to the curb. Indianapolis has plenty of tasty breweries that can fill the gap. My advice is to patron one of those.

Love the atmosphere. Love the Open Jam Sessions on mondays that I stop in for. Any and all of their sandwiches are delicious! I also like the concept of something going on every single night-Sun $8 Growler fills; Mon Open Jam and $3.99 Pints; Tues is Tabletop Tues with tabletop games; Wed trivia; Thurs Open Mic and $3 Mug Club Pints; Fri new brew and Movie Night. Go check them out!! I can never say enough good things about this place!!

A tried three beers while here. One was excellent , Berliner Weiss with Raspberries. One was very good Citra Hopped Pale Ale, and one was bad Hibiscus Pale Ale that tasted contaminated. They have a constantly changing tap list so that is awesome. They are a new brewery and hopefully work some of the kinks out on their sanitation and cleaning regiment to become more consistent in their quality.

Quirky, fun brewery that manages the rare task of being hipster AND friendly. Great at promoting events (trivia, movie and game nights), solid brews with literary themes. Fairly child friendly, which is also a gem among brew houses. Great membership program, and a small bookstore up front. Only other thing Id ask for is a closer location to me.

Books and Brews is cool because its a newer brewery startup and looks like it when you walk in. It reminds me of a glorified garage bar (which it kind of is). Go to this location (the original) knowing that its not a overly sleek and high-end atmosphere. Its a great, casual place to meet friends for a beer. Also, try the bacon!

Always enjoy this place, and I dont even drink! The movie nights and live musuc are fun... plus, they have great root beer! Good grilled cheeses and chips too! Only thing that would make it even better would be if they had ice for cold water (if you want water, it is served room temperature from the tap).

Books, beer, food, and games this place is amazing. Lets start with beer, they have good flavors with a clean pleasant finish. The food is spot on. The flavors are balanced even on a sandwich with ghost pepper. The service was friendly, helpful, and inviting. My kudos to the service, cook, and brewer.

This place is great! The taps are always changing and the beers are always delicious. This place is full of books (which should come as no surprise) and also has a large selection of board games. Theres always something interesting going on here and plenty of friendly folk to chat with. Highly recommended!

What a splendid concept! I brought my kindle and enjoyed some wittily-named brews. Excellent beer and service. Some folks were playing magic the gathering out front, and a band was playing in the side room. I think the next board game gathering I put together might be set here, just to say we did!

The Thursday night Open Mic nights are awesome. People are starting to come down from Chicago to play there, and theres always something new and different each week (since it is a BOOKS and Brews place, sometimes they have a writer reading his or her work, and the crowd gets into it).

Awesome beer. Great place to relax with friends and enjoy some different beers. Good choice of unique bar foods. Their flatbread pizzas are a great choice. Use this place as an opportunity to extend your beer pallet. Play a board game or two while there (Give Burgle Bros. a try).

Cool place with a unique concept. The beer was hit or miss, but the staff was friendly and knowledgable. The bartender even gave us options for great beer in Indianapolis, as we told him we were touring the local breweries.

Do you love playing board games? Do you love beer? Why not kill two birds with one stone and come here. Excellent craft beer and a place that deserves more recognition in Indy. Love it.

One of the best kept secrets in Fishers. There are 10 house brewed beers and a new release every Friday. Add that to the amazing staff and food and you have my favorite lunch spot.

One of my favorite places to meet with friends! Combines a used bookstore and games with a bar. Staff is very friendly and the small plates are delicious. They serve food as well.

This is a great local joint to go to for drinks, hangout and play games. The beers are themes after books and quite tasty. It is worth a visit. You will find yourself going back.

They make some pretty good craft beers. I personally prefer the Nancy Brew IPA and its a regular on the menu. The small batch bourbon barrel beers are usually exceptional.
