Its like the idealized used bookstore you might see in a movie. Books everywhere, tall shelves with rolling step-ladder, boxes on the floor filled with unsorted acquisitions, little rooms in back with specialized collections, political cartoons on the ends of shelves. Browsing paradise. Aaaannnndddd, super-knowledgeable and helpful staff. Churchill, Koran, Martha Stewart, Philip K. Dick, Polish philosophy in Polish. Spanish poetry. Renegade Physics. Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. Pritzker-winner coffee table books. Rumi in Persian and English. Etc.

The book selection here is pretty decent, but not necessarily for academic books. The prices are fair to a bit overpriced--certainly not as cheap as a lot of other used book stores Ive frequented in other cities. But Caveat Emptor is the only (serious) game in Btown, and I think they know that. Unfortunately, the people who work here are rather "quirky"--i.e. theyre real curmudgeons--and Id rather just order my used books online than deal with them again.

Great bookstore, well stocked. A bit overpriced. Janis is an elitist who will insult a customers reading choices as soon as they leave or express barely masked contempt to their face. Separate the shopping experience from the man and youll enjoy yourself. My opinions, naturally, are my own. Your experience will differ.

This bookstore is TERRIBLE! The place is an absolute mess; it is so difficult to find books and there are boxes, chairs and ladders everywhere that you could be in danger of falling or tripping over. The staff is very rude. The books are way overpriced. I will never be going back to this store again.

An excellent bookstore with an extremely knowledgeable owner. It can have some of the harder to find books as you would expect from a good used store in a college town. My brother lives in a major city and feels this store is a gem. The prices are reasonable.

Bloomingtons best used book dealer hands down. I love this place. The smell of books greats you upon entering and so does the view of tall shelves jammed with all genres of classic books. I use to spend hours in here as a teenager.

They have a good selection, but are definitely overpriced. Also, the people who work there are very rude and will make you leave your purse with them because apparently they think everyone is a criminal.

There are only 2 good used scholarly/academic bookstores in Bloomington. Caveat Emptor 112 N Walnut St. & Academic Scholarly Books which is on the Eastside of Bloomington at 105 Pete Ellis Dr.

You never know what or who youll find at Caveat Emptor. Its a treasure in Bloomington to have a friendly used bookstore to browse. Wide selection across genres and decades at decent prices.

Used book store with a cozy atmosphere. They have a great selection of academic books and hard-to-find books. It felt a little unorganized, but a fun bookstore to explore.

One of the few places that still smell like old books that require you to find them, with a contrarian owner, who, sadly, no longer insists that you find books yourself.
