I went in to this shop to repair my Diamondback BMX bike. The reason I chose this shop was because of all the awesome reviews I read about it. I didnt mind paying more for assurance, and that the job thats going to be done and craftsmanship will be at the highest level. I had my chain and brakes serviced. I was given a receipt for $65 and told that I can pay once the bike is repaired (which should take around a week they said) and they will give me a call letting me know. So next week I call and ask about my bike. The employee says bike is ready to go and I am like cool thanks. I go in, the bike isnt even done being serviced and they were ready to hand it to me without even checking that the front brakes havent even been worked on. The guy, apologizes and says it will be done by tomorrow. I come in the following weekend and the bike is finally done, but a different guy guessing he is the store manager hits me with an amount of $91!?! I tell him, I was given a price of $65 (and showed him the receipt). He is like "we went ahead and added new brake cables and things". "I am like well initially your employee said the brakes just needed fluids and oiling and tightening and you guys didnt even call me to let me know you guys were doing some additional work that was going to cost me more money". He gives the worst sorry I have ever heard and the whole time he is looking at me so innocently and confused. Ridiculous!! And to make matters even more frustrating he tells me, "well we can take of the new chain and put back your old one (which is rusty and completely useless) and that should reduce the cost". At this point I am beyond furious and I am "look buddy $65 was the agreed price, dont play this crap with me". He apologizes and says they made a mistake with the quote. And finally after debating, he reduces it to $75 still more than the original amount. At this point I am sick of standing there and talking to this impudent man, with no understanding of customer service or anything so I just pay and walk out. So guys moral of story is, this place stinks. They messed up on all levels (level of work, time, customer service etc) and I still had to pay more. I work hard for my money and this was not right what they did. I will not be going here again and I hope nobody else does either.

Oswego Cyclery has professionally trained mechanics who are also dedicated cyclists on their own time. The owner runs the store so that the employees arent sick of bikes when theyre not working. Good work environment, good employees, quality product. What more could you want? They also support the community cycling efforts by organizing local mountain bike trail cleanup/construction efforts, and other things like community rides. I got my first "fancy" bike in 2015, a Trek Crossrip Elite, for a decent price. The experience was great. I am definitely a tire-kicker, which some salespeople hate, but I knew I wanted something and they were kind and welcoming throughout the whole process. I ended up putting so many miles on it in the first few months that a component snapped and they took it on themselves to fight with the manufacturer to get the part replaced. I come in for questions I run into while playing with my own bikes and they dont make me feel bad, no matter how stupid the questions are. The cycling community gets a bad reputation for elitism, which can scare away newcomers. You will not encounter that here. Just friendly people who want to get more people on bikes. So, maybe you can feel what I am getting at; the community is small enough that they arent just selling one-and-done bikes. My impression is that they are building long-term relationships with their customers (whether they realize it or not, they might just be really good people!)

I recently bought my new bike at 63 years old from Oswego cyclery. The last time I bought a bike I was 16. So it was a big deal to me and many decisions what color and how many gears. I decided on a Townie. Art the owner and his employees were super patient with me. I have really enjoyed the summer riding around in 2nd gear, it has 7 and just glides along very smoothly. It is extremely comfortable with a wider seat and easy on an off styling and flat foot technology when at a stop. I "walk" my smaller dog as I am bicycling so we both get exercize. I had knee surgery and wanted a safe bike and this is it! I cant say enough good things about it. Dont hesitate to buy this!!!

Took my bike to get a tune up. Told me it would be done in about a week. Finally got a call and noticed they changed the peddles.i have folding peddles on my mountain bike. They said they were stripped and had to dispose of it. Said everything was fixed. I paid approx $110.00 for the "tune up". Afterwards I noticed my breaks were not working and i called them and told me to bring it in and They said it was fixed. I then noticed my peddle was not correctly put in. I called them and they said it wont be a problem. Well after riding so much the peddle stripped the crank. Now i have breaks that dont work and a stripped crank arm. Never going here again.

Terrible service. Took by bike in for a tuneup, called 9 days later to check on status, they said it was "completed", I mounted my rack on my car, drove down, waited for service for 10 minutes, then they tell me that my bike was not in fact "completed". I wish this was the only time this happened. Last year, my wife and I took our bikes in for service. We again waited over a week, calling every so often to check on the status. Finally got a "completed" status, but of course, never being informed so. Will never patronize again.

Never buy anything there. I bought a $675 Trek 7.3. It has never shifted properly. Its the only bike Ive ever owned with a shifting problem. My WalMart bikes all shift correctly. I returned the bike under warranty and waited while they worked on the bike. The owner asked what my problem was, the mechanic asked me what I did to the bike. They were very tough with me. These people know how to treat a customer so you dont come back. Im not allowed to post on their Facebook page. Why do you think ?

Amended: Since my last review, the store has ordered more stock. Great! Ended up buying a bike from here at a great deal. These guys will work with you if you do your research. Dog friendly! Really friendly staff. Cool location. Prices are high. They dont have a lot of components and accessories you would find in other stores. The guy had to go in the back to find me a cheap clincher, which wasnt really that cheap. Trek dealer.

Everyone in the shop has been great. The mechanics have bailed me out of a few major breakdowns. I have droppped my Specialized Epic on Monday with a brake failure. Somehow in the busy summer they found time to diagnose the problem the day I dropped it off, order the parts and have it back and ready on Thursday. Mechanics also ride so help with tires and wheel upgrade was great.
