Nov 29, 2015: My second time visit this store and the worst nightmare Ive ever had. The security woman and her manager just assume everyone is thief. I brought my 4yr old and just wanted to pick up a night cream and a pot, so I didnt grab a cart and there are no shopping baskets available, so after I got the cream I put it in my own bag. While I was looking for the pot, my 4yr old asked to go to the bathroom, I wasnt sure if there is a bathroom so I asked an employee who told me its in the back. We rushed into the back and before we even found the bathroom door, another employee came and asked me to follow her, she said the cream in your bag, so I explained I want to buy it and it was the last one so I dont want to leave it outside, but she wont even listen; I also told her my daughter need to use the bathroom and I dont want an accident to pee on the floor, and she said some weird things like "there wont be an accident". I was brought to a small room full of computer monitors and the security lady said she was watching me since I picked up that expensive cream (ironically its only $30), she called her boss and asked for my information and sign some paperwork, I was shocked to hear that I have violated Illinois law by "concealing" the cream in my personal belongs and they can call the police to put me in jail! They told me there is a sign on the bathroom regarding no merchandise inside. I apologized to them saying that I didnt see the sign, and I didnt know this law because I am not a native American, my pool English I didnt even know what "conceal" means and had to ask them. I told them I still want to buy the cream, but they said I cannot shop in this store anymore! They told me either sign the paperwork or theyll call the police to put me and my daughter in jail, I was outraged so I said ok you call the police, I can explain to them. The security lady then made call, but not to the police, to her boss again. After the call, she was softened a little, told me you look nice, your daughter is nice, but there are many dishonest people, in this case, 9 out 10 are thieves. I asked to see the sign posted on the bathroom before I sign the paperwork, and the manager showed to me: there are two signs on both sides of the entrance, one is completely covered by a rack of clothes and the other is almost covered by a pile of clothes. Do they really expect a mom with a kid rushing to the restroom to see this? Anyways I signed the paperwork and asked for a copy of it, and they said no need to give me a copy, its just for the security lady and her boss, so her boss wont think she just picked someone from the phone book. They also told me I can continue to shop there! I thanked them but refused - I really need a cream, since my daughter was born I never had time to buy one, but no I will not buy it there. I dont know when the next trap is where I will be accused violating the law again and being threatened sent to jail. I guess Ive been spoiled by Target, Walmart, Macys, Trader Joes, Whole foods, ROSS, World Market, Jews Osco, etc, where if I unknowingly violate their policy, at least someone will kindly remind me, not just assuming everyone is thief and detain them. Ill just stay with them.

Great store, however.... I had a bad experience when I had to take my three year old girl to the mens restroom for a quick potty break. The bathroom was gross and was in desperate need of attention. Feces clogged stales, urine on the floor, toilet paper strewn about was what I had to navigate, trying to help my child while at the same time not touching anything. Its small details like this that make you wonder if this was a one off thing or just part of the everyday customer experience.

im a constant shopper and have encountered many different types of employees and managers over the years, but never have i been treated so badly by store employees before! This store has the rudest employees ever, dont waste your time if you like being treated with respect. im never shopping at the deerfield location again!

Its a TJ Maxx. Some good bargains, but you have to hunt for stuff thats not broken, ripped, etc. This one is a little small.
