Ive given this place several chances and Im still disappointed. When I was first looking for a bike about 8 years ago I went there and was given nothing but short answers. I remember being the only one in there and it still took about 15 minutes to ask if I needed help. I went to Orland Park Cyclery to purchase my Giant FCR. They were great but far from my house. After that Ive been there twice for tune-ups only and that was a hassle also. The first time they replaced my chain without asking and charged me for it! I needed my bike immediately so I took the loss but told them I wasnt happy with it. I showed my old chain to another bike shop and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I thought I wrote them off forever but decided to give them another shot. I went in for 2 bike tune-ups. The mountain bike was fine but again they tried selling me on a new cassette and chain for my Giant. They had my bikes for about 10 days and it wasnt until the day of the scheduled pick up that they decided they wanted to change those parts. I found out when I came in and said no. I thought that was the end of it but when I test rode my Giant the brake pad was rubbing! I tried several times to adjust it myself but couldnt get it. Loaded it back in my car and took it back immediately to complain. They fixed it I guess but Im still not satisfied. Not for $80! The bike was not cleaned properly and there was grease all over my handle bars. Last year I went to Koslow cyclery in Lombard and they did a fantastic job for $60. In about the 8 years Ive had my bike its never, not even when it was new, ridden better. I called them back to thank the mechanic I was so pleased. Im sure youre thinking stop your complaining and dont go there anymore, but its kinda hard not to when their a mile from my house. I went to Daves bikes a couple times but they shut down. I think their about the only option in Joliet which kind of sucks because Ive been really wanting to upgrade and wanna stay close to home. Hope this helps, but if your like me and wanna stay close theres no other choice.

Sumbaum is a true local cyclery. They take the time to work with clients as they walk in. Over the past two years Ive purchase three bikes from them. All three have carried my family for hundreds of miles both on and off road. Sumbaum supports our repair needs and gives me technical help with tools and techniques when I want to do the repairs myself. For larger issues, they give me options and always recommend the most sensible (the right product for my needs and my wallet) solution. I live just over a mile from the shop, and its on the way home from work, so I stop by for tools or a tube whenever I need something. I always see the staff stop what they are doing to help customers with their needs. They really earned my respect when I watched as a Mom brought in her sons helmet saying she needed to buy a new one because it no longer fit. The salesman, took a moment to teach the Mom how to adjust the helmet, checked the fit on her Sons head and saved them fifty bucks in about a minute. He could have easily walked the family over to the helmet display and made the quick sale, but he took care of the family with a few easy adjustments. These guys have the character and expertise in a bike shop that I wish I could find in other types of stores.

I was in the market for a bike for my husband. I had no idea where to go. I remembered that my father and grandfather talked a lot about this bike shop called Sumbaums Cycle. Even though I was 45 minutes away, I thought I would go their and see for myself. I was pleasantly surprised at how helpful everyone that worked there was. I didnt know what kind of bike would be best for my husband. I explained what my husband would be using the bike for. Everyone that worked their gave me their advise and their opinion. They were all very knowledgeable. I was impressed because you dont usually go to a store and have every worker help you and know what they are talking about, They took an interest in my situation and helped steer me in the right direction. The owner was also very nice. I think his name was Ted Sari. I wanted to share my experience with others and hope that maybe if someone is ever in a similar situation, they will know where to go for a bike and have and enjoyable experience. And they also gave me a great deal and backed up their talk. I now know where I will recommend going.

Been a consistent customer of Sumbaum for over a year now. From novice to avid bikers, these guys have you covered. The quality of repairs and maintenance is always consistent and thorough. If you like to chat a little bit and learn about your bike, the staff here is open and willing to expand your knowledge. Also bought a used bike here put together by one of the staff and hundreds of miles in its running like a dream machine. If youre thinking of going, go! Do them a favor and show up with cash also...waaaay better for small businesses!

Definately NOT the "friendliest" bike store.... I bring in my sons boke for repair on 10/1/15 as they have had the bike SEVEN DAYS. The repair ticket is scheduled for pick up on 10/ 7 / 15 for 4pm... I showed up at noon and got ridiculed for being there 4 hours earlyas they have not even started the repair job. I expressed mI am disappointed and the owner comes running out in the parking lot totell me that I am in the wrong for being early. NOT A SMART WAY TO TREAT CUSTOMERS. /7/15 (at

Ive have bought all of my familys bikes from Sumbaums totaling 6 current bikes and numerous others over the years. The staff knows their business and the service I receive is prompt and reasonable. Sumbaums is the perfect bike shop for all types of bikes. If you dont see what you want in stock they can get it for you. Thank you Ted, Jeff, Rob and Joe for running a quality shop that is focused on helping the customer.

I went to sunbaum cycle needing a set of brakes for a gas bike I had just built, I wasnt sure the length I needed. The salesman behind the counter was good enough to measure my bike and compare to one they had in stock to get me jut the right calipers, and as they were not too busy we killed a few minutes having great conversation. I will do business with them in the future.

I took my 1967 Schwinn Stingray Fastback there to get the derailleur adjusted. I was very impressed that they were able to work on something that was 50 years old and get it to work like new. I have bought 3 Trek mountain bikes from them in the past. Great people and very knowledgeable.

Excellent service! Bought my first bike here in 2008. I was so happy with the quality and service, I ended up buying two more bikes. The expertise and support that is provided by the employees is nothing short of trustworthy and helpful. I will always be a costumer of Sumbaum Cycle.
