I live just off Southport and visit Que Syrah every so often. But yesterday, when two friends and I went in for the tasting and to buy a few bottles for dinner, the guy working the tasting (who I think is the owner or manager) clearly thought we were not going to spend money and therefore not worthy of his attention or good manners. He was dismissive and rude and ignored our questions, and clearly tried to refrain from involving us the tasting, in front of everyone else there. It was horribly embarrassing and his perception became a self-fulfilling prophecy, as we promptly left and spent our money elsewhere. If you want to run a wine shop in a neighborhood where young people live, you should treat the young people as you treat your older, seemingly more affluent friends at the tasting, with whom you have no difficulty chatting, pouring generously, and making recommendations. We will not be returning.

I drove a long way to visit this store to buy grappa. The owner had told me over the phone that he carried this type of beverage. When I arrived he told me he didnt carry grappa--he was rude and condescending. So I went to Binneys and got great service, spent a lot of money.

This is a spectacular wine shop. They make take away the intimidation of selecting the right wine and remove all pretentiousness. Its good people running a good shop and they want you to walk away with a wine thats right for you.
