This place never seems to lose a crowd or its buzz. We popped in a couple of times during our stay in Chicago and both times the food didnt disappoint. Our first time in, we sat upstairs and shared a pizza as a light snack during the day. The pizza was cooked in the stone over and was sooo good, light and fluffy! Service upstairs was prompt and polite. I also managed to score a bottle of wine on the trip. The gentleman helping me gave me a brief overview of Italian wines and suggestions on wines from Barolo. Such a positive experience, as I learned so much and found a great wine that didnt break the bank account. Before walking out, we had to stop by the gelato section, located downstairs near the entrance. The banana chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip were my favorites. They let you try flavors, so if you find yourself overwhelmed - dont be afraid to ask. Our second time in, we came back for gelato. The service was really crappy this time and definitely a 180 from the last visit. The lady behind the counter didnt seem interested in being there and my gelato was slapped together in a bowl pretty crappy and was dripping all over the sides. I was pretty annoyed, but since I knew how solid the quality and taste of the gelato was - I didnt let it bother me. I think had this been my first visit, I probably would have been tainted enough to not come back.

Stopped in this morning to get an egg sandwich on a baguette which is my wifes favorite. Lady at counter told me cant do it on a baguette only croissant or foccia bread. By the way baguettes are sold in front of where she is making the sandwiches. I grabbed a baguette and went up to check out, stood there for a few minutes waiting but no one there. Then went back to the sandwich place and waited in line where she told me cant ring you up here. Thank god another employee heard her and told her to ring up under open food. The Eataly in New York is amazing and employees there cant do enough for you. I am beyond disappointed in this Eataly and being in the restaurant business for decades know they better start sending their employees to a customer service workshop!! If you are going to have stations which requiring cooking all day long and catering to the customers, you must have employees who are trained and willing to do so. This way customers wont feel like a bother coming into your establishment because your employees dont want to be there!!! Also please put up signs saying "can only get our products on these two breads for breakfast and so forth"!! Joe Visitor to Chicago

Eataly is no competitor. It is AMAZING! You can do THREE main things: eat, shop, and learn. There is basically many stations of food from Italy you can choose from, varying from traditional pasta to seafood. The desserts, some items, and checkout are downstairs. The real, main food is upstairs. Its usually busy so you might need to wait a little for a seat. Definitely not a quiet and cozy place. Also, the servers were nice and the food came up quickly. There are many choices, so youll love this place if you like pizza, pasta, and more. Be sure to try out the desserts like gelato and tiramisu because they are really good and fresh and creamy! Perfect place if youre REALLY hungry and need to eat a big meal. About the food: I went to Rossopomodoro (which is upstairs with the two big golden ovens). They have pasta and pizza. You can also customize your pizza (like make your own) to what you like. They have plenty of toppings and even 4 doughs to choose from! We got the Black Squid Pasta (it was good, but not awesome) and a customized pizza. I know this is a lot to take in but its incredible!!!

I used to work here and an unreasonable amount of terrible things happened to me while working here. I was sexually harassed by a colleague and I reported it and he was not fired. He was only fired later for doing cocaine on the job. Then a manager shared some sensitive information about my life and spread it to all of my coworkers and I told HR that I was going to quit. I later found evidence of her spreading information from an ex-coworker who confirmed it. I turned in the information I gathered to HR and they failed to fire her. Then, I just went in to pick up what I thought was my W2..to find out it wasnt.. it was a 1095 healthcare form. So... I had to quit my job because no one in management has a decent moral compass and now I cant even get the money that I deserve. The food is decent but the people are terrible. They are either completely ignorant as to how to help or they just really dont care about your well-being. I highly suggest that you dont work here if you want to feel safe and valued.

Whole store looked like a bed bath and beyond for wine and all things Italian. They even sold Italian toothpaste. there are different areas to eat different levels of Italian cuisine, starting from simple baked goods all the way to traditional Italian dining. I chose the latter and ordered a squid in its own ink spaghetti. There was barely any squid in the dish (3 measly small thin rings) and the lemongrass was an aromatic addition that really threw me off. I didnt enjoy the dish at all. the "al dente" spaghetti was a little on the hard side and the ink sauce really heavy and salty. I prefer if the ink was mixed with a little canola or olive oil with a nice portion of lightly sauté garlic. My sister order a red wine truffle ravioli stuffed with braised pork which tasted more like parmesan ravioli. The Mola Cola tasted like a perrier coca cola mix. The ambience was a charming street market affair but the food was not worth the hype.

Great selection of food! 5-star-rating! Yet the attitude and education of the staff lacks of the right understanding for how to handle the food appropriately. 2-star-rating! Baguette bread was cut and carelessly thrown into a bag by the bakery staff. After asking the lady to pack it in order, she she said its too much work. Though she threw the first bag of bread away and redid it. Hot chocolate was served in a plastic cup at the coffee bar. Asking for an appropriate glas cup the guy behind the counter got all sassy about how they wouldnt have glasses. Yet he prepared a new beverage in a glass after all.

Blown away by the plethora of options. Nice presentations at all areas of the food hall. The service help was mediocre at best. We had a party of 3 eat at the pasta/pizza area on the 2nd floor. Atmosphere was loud and too much air conditioning. We all had fresh pasta, which was...meh, just ok. Too salty, got cold fast, due to the a/c blowing directly onto our table. Wine and beer selection was interesting. Overall, a decent meal, but too expensive for what we received in terms of food quality, quantity and service. Had crepes for dessert at the Nutella booth on the street level. They were fantastic.

Cant recommend this place enough. It is the perfect date night spot, amazing place to day drink at, easy for most of your grocery needs, great to pop in on a hot day, basically everything you could want. If there were condos above this place Id buy 5. Minimum. Pro tip: for new dates, tenured relationships, or just for fun with friends. Eat and drink until youre a little bit tipsy, and then go drunk shop for cheese. Not much can beat it. Also, if you can go summer of 2017 make sure you get the Caprese gelato combo, its insane.
