The Good: Great cheese selection with a knowledgeable cheese guy. Great craft beer, wine, and spirit selection with very helpful and surprisingly informed staff. Good produce, but sometimes you have to hunt for it because some of it is a bit past its prime. Lots of wild (but pricey) specialty items and ethnic foods. The Bad: Prices... everything can be a little more expensive, but that is to be expected with a small local grocery store. If you dont come early everything worth getting in the bakery is sold out. The Ugly: Many of the cashiers and stockers are very unprofessional if not downright rude. Checking out can sometimes be a nightmare with only 1 or 2 cashiers late at night. TL:DR This is a great store that is expensive (although you can find some great deals.) Its nice because its not a giant business and they will go out of there way to be helpful (granted you get someone who actually wants to be helpful.) All that said, I would rather support a small local grocery store than the other faceless businesses in Chicago. Support local business!

Im actually shocked that others gave this place somewhat positive reviews considering their pathetic excuse of customer service they fail to consistently deliver. I live on the same block so to say this place in convenient is an understatement. However, I would rather walk a few blocks down to Whole Foods or Treasure Island just to avoid dealing with these grossly inept people that work at Potash. They seem miserable to actually be there and act put out if you ask them a simple question. The one named Seville is the absolute worst and its speaks to the kind of management they have considering they would allow someone like her to still work there. Its almost comical how ridiculously rude they are and considering the produce is consistently going bad shortly after its bought, I think Im going to have to finally give up on this joke of a store.

This place allowed a thief to conduct a $600 transaction on my stolen credit card, obviously without VERIFYING ID. Basics of Retail Cashiers... Always verify ID on credit card purchases, especially over a certain amount and especially when several other cards have been attempted and declined. Even worse, when I attempted to contact the store to discuss, I was spoken to incredibly rudely by an employee and promised a call back this evening by the manager. (The call back was only promised after I demanded it. She originally told me to call back, after I had already explained the situation. One would assume that if your company made a huge mistake- why should the individual be inconvenienced anymore?) Long story short- do not do business with them. Obviously they do not work with pride or integrity.

For many years, this store was dirty and run-down, which surprised me because its in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Chicago. They finally cleaned it up a bit and updated it, though it isnt very economical. Other Gold Coast stores provide thick bags that can be reused, but here they charge for plastic bags that easily rip and cant be used again. Also, since theyre so flimsy, they double-bag them, resulting in a double charge. Various pluses include the location and authentic bagels. It has the atmosphere of a neighborhood store and is there when you need it.

Potash gives you a really "homely" feel to your grocery shopping experience. Its different from other bigger grocery chains because its smaller and decorated in way that provides shoppers a really intimate atmosphere. I really enjoy coming here because things are easier to find and they have a great selection of really fresh produce. It may be a little more expensive but if youre all for supporting small, local businesses, this is a great one to get behind. Its been here since 1962 and hopefully itll go on for many more years!

Too pricey and I saw one of the oldest worker, like Asian I think, giving orders, to another co-worker, of course a teenager, in a unrrespetfully and abusive language, which I dont think is legal, because the young man is a minor, while the older man, (the Asian), who pretend to be the owner of this place, as I hear around, doesnt know how to treat and train, new workers, thats why those young guys leaving, because for sure, they feel treated, and abused from this older asian man.

I love this grocery store. This has a very quaint small town feel in the middle of downtown. The store is not the biggest, so they suffer with some "space" issues, be sure to look up - you may find some items hanging above the freezer cases. A delicious salad bar, excellent desserts and a well stocked liquor section are other reasons to visit this place! Only problem is that their prices are a little overboard - they seem to cater to a rich downtown clientele.

Im really baffled about the negative comments because Ive been shopping at Potash for over 30 years! Art and his staff have always treated me with the utmost respect and have often gone "beyond the call of duty." Perhaps its because I believe strongly in and practice the words of the Great Teacher; "...For with the measure that you are measuring out, they will meaure out to you in return." (Luke 6:38)

I USED to love Potash, but since they renovated the store it has gotten terrible. I live above the grocery store and I used to go everyday, now I never go. The prices got raised, while the quality went down. Half of the salad bar options got taken away. The meats in the deli are now now disgusting. Please bring back the old potash.

The staff belittles their customers when you ask for help. The staff began to talk negatively about a customer right after they walked away. Unfortunately, the customer was still in the vicinity and could hear their negative comments. I wouldve expected better customer service.

Want to pay an over-inflated price for average groceries, come to Potash Brothers. Its basically the "convenience store" of grocery stores. The alcohol, especially is over-priced. As well as random goods that are like 50% more than youd pay at Dominicks.

Briliant place for shopping and maily for cheap lunch or dinners! There is big fresh bar with fresh vegetables, deli, bakery and some tables for eating inside. You can get really great and fresh food based on your actuall mood for perfect price.

I like the cheese counter, friendly cheese monger and very knowledgeable. The deli provides interesting on the go snacks, and it is the only place I can find pimento spread and Tonys Cajun Seasoning in this town.

Very pricy grocery. And the produce always ring up at more pounds than it feels. Im hesitant to shop per pound produce here because I always feel gypped & can never find a scale on the produce area to prove it.

Staff is rude , art is a loser for a owner. Deli is always rude & loud. Basically these guys get paid to not really do anything special. Might as well close this company put a WFM in there place.

River North prices and slightly understaffed in the deli area between 11-1 when people are getting sandwiches for lunch. Other than that, solid selection of boars head meat and groceries.
