Academy is over hyped in general, and this paticular store is just proof of my point. They have what I would call a "medium" selection of outdoor equipment, and dont get me wrong the things they do sell are of good quality but the variety is very limited. Basically if youre not "huntin, fishing, and lovin every day" your not gonna find what you need. Are you a rock climber? Sorry nothing here for you, how about a diver? Nope nothing for you guys either.....well what about you mudrunners, jrotc trainees, or street workout peps? Nope you guys wont be able to find anything for your sports/activitys either. People boast all the time about how "Academy outdoors is THE oudtoor equipment store" but whenever I try to find something that pertains to a sport/activity out side of hunting, fishing, camping or sports logo clothes I usually end up disappointed. Once again NOT A BAD STORE, just dont go in thinking you will find EVERYTHING outdoorsy you ever wanted or needed.

Normally a big chain store doesnt do anything to make me want to leave a review but the Douglasville Academy Sports is doing a great job. I recently visited the store with my 2 almost 3 year old son. We were going to a local park to fish and I purchased a pole that included the line, hooks, etc. I knew this was going to take a while to get setup because Im not great at that type thing and a young guy in the guns and ammo section near the fishing gear told me to buy it up front and bring him the pole with the receipt and he would be happy to set it up for me. A+ for this location and great customer service.

Since they didnt have an item they ordered it online for me in store. It came fast to my house and I wasnt charged for shipping. But when their website asked for a review and I put exactly what I just put on here it said it didnt meet their standards. So take their online reviews with a grain of salt. Their reviews are heavily monitored which can be misleading. But great store location.

The layout is good but the checkout lines tend to get a bit long and no one seems to pay attention or they just dont staff enough cashiers. Id be willing to bet that they havent ever had all those checkout lanes opened at once. I may lose the bet but it would be interesting to know since all I ever see are one maybe two lanes open.

Really good staff and decent selection at competitve prices. This place always has my preferred ammo in stock and the guys will hold it for me. I think the (one) line can move faster being that its the only one they keep open but other than that I rather enjoy this outdoorsey shop.

Went up there to get a 3 day fishing license, manager took over 20 minutes to get back to me. To top it off I bought bait and all the crawlers in the container were dead and molded. Never going here again. Better off buying the fishing license online.

The selection on shoes were pretty good. They had no CrossFit shoes, but they did have training shoes and the prices were fair because of a sale. It seems like you can get good deals here if you buy things on clearance.

There isnt ever anyone available to help with ammo or airsoft, etc. unless you are buying a handgun or rifle. Great sneaker department, good prices, great selection and they carry adult sizes up to 15.
