HANDS DOWN - THE WORST Experience Ive ever had in my life. I work across the street from SIP so upon us relocating to the new offices, a coworker of mine suggested that I check SIP out. Everyone knows how much I love supporting local businesses so visiting SIP was a no brainer to me. I really enjoyed visiting the shop on my breaks, it was a cool atmosphere to get away for a quick breather until... The first bad experience came when... I came in for my routine break. Upon arriving at the counter, the Asian lady (who I believe is the owner) helped the guy in front of me. During his check out process, she asked him if he had frequent buyer card. He replied no, so she offered and suggested one to him. Mind you, Ive interacted with the Asian lady before, I would typically come in 4-5 times a week for a drink and never once did she or anyone else at the counter offer me a frequent buyer card. I pointed that out to her when it was my turn to order and check out - she said "Oh, you dont have one...." The second and LAST bad experience I had... My coworker and I decided to have our meeting at SIP. We had been trying to coordinate the meeting for quite some time and FINALLY I got her out of the office for the quick break. We ordered lunch (the curry chicken salad - for her the sandwich for me the salad) and we proceeded to sit down to begin our meeting. In the midst of conversation, I decided that I wanted to try the "dirty chai." I proceed to order, pay for my chai and even gave the little guy (who looks like a band player) with glasses a tip because he was so nice. Once my drink was ready, in the midst of my meeting I sipped it and realized that the texture was a little too creamy so I inquired in asking what type of milk he used. He responded with "whole milk" I responded with "Oh, I am sorry, I do not drink cows milk - that is my mistake. Can I get soy milk instead." He said with a deep sigh and frustration..."I dont know, I have to ask the manager. This is an independent coffee shop and you’ve just wasted ingredients.” I proceeded to say “I do not mind paying for the soy milk, would you mind making me another drink.” He then proceeds to go in the back and talk to the owner. Not once did she come out and speak with me 1:! (the same lady who never offered me the frequent buyers card). So, this guy comes back out and says, “Sorry, we aren’t making you another drink.” I think ask “Well, please refund my money.” He puffs up and says “No, this is your fault, I am not refunding you your money.” Then he proceeds to say “You people are something else. You are acting like a real b*tch.” At that point, I am totally floored. Not only did he not make me another drink and did not give me a refund, he threw the drink I had ordered out. Never in my life have I ever experienced customer service at this level. I would not suggest going to SIP - the rate they are going with their service, I give them less than a year to stay open. TERRIBLE - TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

Here, my friends, is your standard city-cafe. If you are in need of some fine tasting Counter Culture coffee and happen to be in the Lindbergh area then stop in, youll find its refreshing. If not then dont feel like youre missing out on anything extraordinary. Sip is a somewhat new establishment and is probably still just trying to find its groove. Atmosphere- Sip has a nice open space with seating both inside and outside on the patio. The feel is modern and fresh with high ceilings and a cool color scheme. The fault with the atmosphere for Sip is the low quality. The place is filled with either straight Ikea or imitation Ikea furniture, dishes, art, etc and its too obvious. I need more character and I hope this will come with time. Coffee- The coffee here tastes great (thank-you Counter Culutre) and they offer a decent selection of espresso drinks and teas. Service- It took me five minutes to order and pay for my French-pressed coffee. Granted, the person behind the register was in training but not many people are patient enough to wait that long for such a simple transaction. Another detractor was the wife-beater t-shirt the guy behind the counter was wearing-eww. No one was particularly friendly and by the time we left the cafe was getting kinda messy. Location- We liked the location. There really arent many local coffee shops in that area so Sip is this little hiding spot in the big Buckhead. Having Sip as part of an apartment building in the Lindbergh area gives it this neighborly feel. The area is very walkable and accessible. Legitimacy- Known coffee, OK menu selection, and good food. But the quaility of the actual stuff (non edible) inside Sip takes its legitimacy down. I have to add that Sip gets the rating we gave it despite the many negatives I noted about the service and atmosphere because the coffee is good and this is a coffee-shop blog. Youll notice that Cafe Nineteen has the same rating-thats because its atmosphere rocks while its coffee is rather bland.

Sip is just okay Pros: - Good atmosphere to get work done. Its usually pretty quite, not super busy, plenty of outlets, good lighting, good variety of seating, outdoor patio area is decent when its setup. Better place to work than the Starbucks at Sidney Marcus and Piedmont - Coffee is good. They also have some new trendy items like a tonic coffee that was well done. Cons: - They do a poor job of moderating the temperature, Im guessing to save on their energy bills. - Their prices are high, especially given the quantity and quality of food. I understand making profits back on the margin vs. reduced volume, but this is a poor value - Poor customer service. Management is very strict about modifying food orders (e.g., american cheese on the sandwich instead of provolone). I also asked for water, and the manager asked me if I was a customer. I said I was planning to buy something around lunch in a few hours. She suggested that I buy something now. This just isnt how you treat customers. - Sandwiches are sub-par. Chicken salad is too sweet and pickled jalapenos instead of fresh jalapenos are a cop out. End Story: I dont think Ill be going back, unless to use as a meetup spot.

I love SIP. I usually stop by for either an espresso or Americano and their organic green tea. The secret? Excellent quality beans freshly ground everyday. I tried countless cafes for the love of coffee and baked goods in nyc and still even buy coffee beans from my fav coffee store. My fav new coffee beans brands are Batdorf & Bronsons Dancing Goat, Thousand Hills and some times Caribou on my off days. SIPs espresso and house coffee is on par w/these brands. What makes it even better is the fact they French Press ALL their coffee. Their cakes and breads selection has gotten extensive and made fresh or delievered frequently. The lemon frosted blueberry cake is delicious the icing is a little too sweet for my taste. Their coffee cake and sweet potato cake is outstanding. I like the fact the menu has gotten simple but wish there was more substancial breakfast or lunch options It has a cozy modern ambience and free WiFi without the yells of orders @the pick up counter like Starbucks. Try it once and you might never go back to drip coffee ever again. Plus they give you a loyalty card so your 10th drink is free!
