I usually buy most of my supplements online since it is much cheaper than shopping at Earth Fare. For some reason I decided to go there yesterday (January 13 2010) and, as to be expected, things were pricey. But that is not all. As I was checking out, the girl at the check out counter asked me if it was okay for her to add a 5 cent donation to my bill to go for the plastic Earth Fare shopping bag, then she gave me a spill about recycling, etc. I was so surprised - I was speechless. It was not the amount of the donation - 5 cents is almost nothing - but it was the principle of the whole thing. I dont think Earth Fare is the place to solicit you for money for a shopping bag, especially because it is so expensive to shop there already. I already donate to various causes but I do like to have a choice and not feel "accosted" or "preached to" by someone at the counter !!! I am back to online shopping even if I have to wait for my supplements to arrive. Earth Fare has lost its right to use me to do their free advertisement (since their shopping bags say "Earth Fare" on them). Instead I will advertise for Wal-Mart since that is the bag I will take to the store with me to carry my stuff - if I ever go back. Earth Fare - if you are reading this, note that it is not worth it to lose a customer over 5 cents. You charge us enough already, so just zip it.

The selection is good and the prices are expensive--still, I go out of my way to go there sometimes because it has BROWN COW yogurt, which is the best ever. Also, they have a pretty decent selection of regional food and sell bulk items. The prices are, as another reviewer said, comparable to Whole Foods. Not out-of-the ordinary for a specialty food store, but higher than Kroger and Walmart for sure. If you bring your own bag you dont have to make a plastic bag donation or have the plastic bag charge or whatever. A previous reviewer complained, but the whole point of the donation is to raise awareness, which I think is fine with me (everyone was nice about it and I think its free to get your groceries in a box--like, a box that products were shipped in/a recycled box or whatever--, which you can bring back). That philosophy pops up a lot--some of the milk bottles can be returned and you get a little money back, etc. Its my favorite Athens grocery store.

True, its a little expensive, but I do believe you get great quality things there. I do most of my shopping at Wal-Mart, but go here for a wider variety of organic foods. My only problem Ive ever had there was this guy who worked behind the counter. I just got a sandwich, and I politely asked if they had any Diet Coke there...he gave me such a disgusted look and started ranting for MINUTES about all these negative things Diet Coke has in it and does to you. Okay, man. I just asked about a drink, please dont "preach" to me about what I should be drinking instead. It just struck me as kind of rude, and not something they should be doing to their customers. Besides that, I definitely recommend Earth Fare as a healthy supermarket.

Yes, this is a smart choice if you have unlimited funds to buy food stuffs. The profits must be great here for the store cause the policies for non support of local charities is very limited at best and the foods that are "composted" could be offered at reduced prices to people that are hungry! You will never see a reduced produce section at this store, just another profit oriented policy. . In Atlanta at Dekalbs Farmers Market youll find prices 20 to 40 % below Earthfares prices. They offer great pricing and far more variety. The 2 star is just being generous. And no, I have no affiliation to the market in Dekalb...it is just a tip.

vegetables and a large variety. Its more than just organic too. Now days, the question of whether I am buying produce that is non-gmo. Certain vegetables are considered the dirty dozen-like potatoes- because they really absorb pesticides Others -like Kale and kiwi - seem more resistant, but i want to avoid zucchini or yellow squash that is gmo. I believe that possibly is more likely from vegetables at Earth Fare. Earth Fare also has a very nice selection of grains and meats. Kroger is just starting to develop the grain line in bulk. Keep up the good work - so we can stay well!

Decent selection of the hard to find fare, but you can always find it cheaper online. Organic produce is absolutely cheaper at Kroger. BUT...you had the added knowledge that some of the food is locally sourced, which is nice. Huge selection of grains, flour, nuts and candy that you can buy by the weight, and I thought the make-your-own-peanut butter and pour your own honey stations are cool. But again, the price will definitely get to your wallet. Great little cafe, snack bar and bakery inside.

The prices are more expensive on the same products sold at Kroger. However, I appreciate the food philosophy (including the "boot list") and have learned a lot from shopping here. I also appreciate that their produce section is not exclusively organic so that shoppers have choices for lower-cost food. The customer service has also been good. But I simply cannot afford for this to be my primary grocery store.

I always get good service here and good products. However, do yourself a favor, save some cash on the Garden of Life Sport Grass Fed Whey which is over priced at $54.00. You can purchased this product at two other shops in Athens for $39.00 bucks. That is a big price difference. Every company deserves to make money, but gouging consumers is not acceptable. That is a difference of $14.00.

I really like earth fare for eating and a casual sit, more than grocery shopping. They have a lot of deli and cooked foods, along with drinks. Good wifi, power available, outdoor seating. This is why Earth Fare. On the grocery side, I have shopped here for meats and some quick grab things. Its pricey to do the whole shopping list here though. Love the place overall though...

Beautiful organic produce that unfortunately is coming from California. I have been preferring to shop at Daily Grocery where I can find local produce. The next best choice is Kroger. We love Earth Fare but its hard to justify spending $85 and to walk out only being able to feed my family for 1 and 1/2 meals.

When things are on sale (Wednesday sushi and deli items) its pretty convenient. However, a lot of other items here are exorbitantly priced. The location is partly to blame for this being that its at five points. Atmosphere is very relaxed and nice, though. Good place to study and get coffee.

Shopping at this store brightens my day. Its one of the few stores that I like to visit. If you purchase a lot of organic food, then this place would work well for you. If you dont care about organic or speciality food, then you will probably find this store outrageously expensive.

Ive gotten food poisoning here multiple times from the hot bar. Been taking Imodium all night after having their salmon today. They either are costing the food with something, leaving it out to long, or are using low quality food. I dont know, but Im not buying from here again.
