Their carelessness has caused my service dog to HAVE TO RETIRE. A 2 year old, Black Russian Terrier, that was a school trained Service Dog, also being shown AKC, walked into the shop and required assistance out. After a few steps into the main store he had gone down. I took him back into grooming area. Asked why could he not walk? The groomer came around the counters he laid flat on the floor, she grabbed his left rear leg jerk ed it so hard that he cried in pain as I heard it loudly pop. Another older groomer grabbed the dog she was attending too on the table and rushed over. This was roughly 7:30 pm. He had been there all day. When I did not get a call I went to investigate. At 7:30 next morning I was with him at the DVM for xrays. Chip was found on right hip, probably initial injury. Left hip needed replacement. Total hip replacement, socket and ball. He was placed on strong meds. Later taken to the #1 ortho surgeon in USA. Remember this is my newly trained service dog. The VA does not pay for our dogs. I wanted him to have the best. That DVM referred me to another, as he retired for performing surgery. The surgery was done, still he had to retire afterwards. I am still fighting Petco, was told because he had the onset of hip dysplasia they would not pay. Over $10,000 with initial, specialist, travel, hotels. Remember I said this dog had also shown. Just a short time prior be beat out that years Westminster Champion for his breed. He showed no signs of hip dysplasia to have done that.

The animals residing seem to be well taken care of, with none of the usual complaints about chain pet stores which is refreshing. However, thats not what I find irritating about this store. Their conures are EXTREMELY overpriced. Most notably, their sun conures. I have never seen a sun conure priced above 400$ (and thats at the pricey end, with most being 300$ or less) but the baby here was priced at a whopping 700$. Its a true shame, as I was thinking about possibly bringing him home.

Went in for dog tug...bought 2 tugs and frisbee. Employees always helpful. Cashier went out of her way to show me how to use $5 credit on my account. I think it is great that Petco shows its appreciation by giving these out.

Horrid experience in the Grooming Salon. Groomers need to pay attention. And stop taking 7 hours to groom a dog. I was a groomer so I know how easy it should be for a professional pet stylist.
