Up until 10 March 14 I thought the Academy could do no wrong. My wife bought me an iProtect Light and Laser for my XD 45. The sales associate made sure the combo would fit my sidearm. After receiving the light laser combo for my birthday I stopped in to see if they had a holster that would fit and what I needed to do to make sure it fit. The sales associate advised me to bring my sidearm in minus the magazine and a trigger lock on it and go to the front desk and a manager would walk me back to the firearms counter and the could match what was on the shelf a pick out what best suited me. Approx a week later I stopped in with my sidearm (trigger lock no magazine) stopped at the front desk was greeted by a store manager that checked to see if the firearm had a trigger lock and no magazine. He turned me over to a nice young lady to escort me to the firearms counter. This is where things went from bad to worse. The older gentleman opened the case as I was explaining what I needed. The first words out of his mouth were this combo will not fit this gun. ( I had already put a hundred rounds through it on the range with no problem ) after four attempts to put it on I had to show him how. He then proceeds to talk down to me like I was in fifth grade. Telling me they did not carry that combo and he did not have a holster that would fit it. He said it would be a waste of time to check the holsters he knew what he had. Im from out of town and have made multiple trips here. $20 in gas each time. Ever since the first trip, the experience went down. Ive dealt with rude employees and managers. That I can ignore since it seems to be in every store nowadays. The biggest complaint that happened numerous times is the quality of their clothes. My boyfriend made trips to purchase well over $150 worth of clothes each time. After one wash, these expensive name brand clothes have lost their seams, developed discoloration in areas, they are warped when you put them on,...all just to name a few. We now have about 10 Under Armour button ups that costed roughly $30-40/piece, Under Armour pants, and about 15 Wolverine shirts that are all ruined. Ive purchased multiple Nike items roughly $300, and the same has happened. Point of the review, BEWARE of their stuff. Appears to be low quality items that didnt make the production to their actual stores but instead to Academy.

I liked this place alot it has a big selection. They did make it uncomfortable for my boyfriend and i though by staring and following us around. Wer young but we dont appretiate it being sooo obvious your expecting us to steal. At least be subtle if you have to watch everyone like that. They have their display shoes on strings so if you want to try something on you have to find the box. And i asked about a cassette converter for my car and the cashier simply said he owned one and nothing more then i et in my car and the thing doesnt work it made a horrible loud static noise so bad i thru it out.

Poor customer service. Could not purchase battery for price marked. Manager wanted additional core charge of $13. It clearly stated credit toward new battery purchase if you brought in old battery. No where could he show me that it stated core charge. The core charge should be included in price listed and then credited if you bring in. No one would work with me.

So far everytime we have come to academy sports we have been satisfied. The best part with good employees has seem to be around the gun counter. The place is not staffed with a lot of knowledgeable employees walking around ready to help. We do love the specials they occasionally have that destroy Bass pro shop prices. Ammo seems to go on sale often.

Went in the store the other day and was immediately greeted by a gentleman by the name of Will, he directed to the area where I needed to be. While over there, I needed some extra assistance, and a fellow by the name of Jeremy showed me where the item was, and even gave a description of it. He even mentioned ordering any item not in stock online.

My previous review was for 5 stars. Went and bought 2 strings for my tennis rackets and took it to the front desk as usual . I was told the they dont offer the service as the person who string left the store. it came as a surprise as a service is dependent on an employee. I have returned the string and walked away with disappointment.

I will never step foot in your store again. Removing rifles off your display racks is sending the WRONG message. Grow a set, and tell the gun grabbers to stick it. This is already all over the Internet... radio... and social media. This move is going to hurt you big time. VERY disappointed!!

The game winner in store brand stuff is really garbage as far as durability and quality. The customer service really really sucks. Stick with name brand stuff from here when its on sale and avoid the crappy employees up front around the registers as much as possible.

I had a great experience there today. I went in to purchase a kayak on my lunch break and David helped me in a quick and timely manner. Him and another employee loaded it onto my car for me and strapped it down securely. They were extremely helpful!

Sometimes there are good deals a Academy. I do like their house clothing brand Magellan. The location of Academy is a shopping center with the strangest intersection. Be careful because people dont look when they turn into Publix.

Always a clean store and lots of products in stock. Their cheap prices are an added bonus! Handgun ammo can be in short supply after Christmas and the new years. However, that tends to happen at most outdoor stores.

Great addition to the Tallahassee outdoor apparel scene. They have everything you need from kayaks to soccer balls to clothes and the like. Decent prices and helpful staff make for a good shopping experience.

My fav sports store for athletic gear because they carry mens clothing in the 3X range, and mens shoe sizes 13EEE to 15. A good selection of weaponry also, from pocket knives to BB guns to actual guns.
