Went to buy a pistol 2 weeks ago, 729.00 plus an extra clip, plus a holster to carry it in and was denied by the background check folks. Got a letter today from the back ground folks saying they had not received from somebody the information they were seeking but Academy Sports could legally sell me the pistol. Academy Sport would not sell me the pistol saying I needed to have a complete ok from the back ground check people, even though I had a paper from them folks saying Academy could legally sell me the gun. At this point, its not the background folks denying me the right to buy the gun, but Academy sports. What a racket Academy and the back ground check people have going. Myself, I am now 10.00 poorer but 10.00 smarter. No more business with Academy Sports. This occurred at the Academy Sports on Kingston Pike in West Knoxville Tennessee. Went to Ganger Mnt on Parkside Drive in Knoxville, about 2 hours later, paid another 10.00 for a background check, and 20 minutes later, I was walking out the door with the same pistol, extra clip and holster. Academy sports has taken upon itself to become the new "Gun Control" folks.Derek was the manager and told me this was company wide policy. It works for Ganger Mnt. They are 915.00 richer tax and all.

The "customer service" line should be renamed because it is the opposite of that. I came to exchange a pair of pants for a different size the day after Christmas. I expected to wait in line, but I did not expect to have to do it twice. After waiting 15-20 minutes the first time (which Im fine with), I asked to exchange the pants for another size and the cashier "Brittany" asked me if I wanted to go find them myself. I told her Im not sure where they were located in the store if she could tell me, but she had no idea. So I wandered around until I found them. Then I went back to the register and she said I had to go to the back of the line again. So I waited in line another 20 minutes completely shocked that she couldnt send one of the other 2 employees that were standing next to her to find the pants for me and made me wait in line a second time. Ive worked in customer service for over 10 years and am a manager. I could not imagine treating a customer with such disregard. Hopefully I dont sound too harsh, Im just a bit salty at the moment.

Place is a disaster!! My wife and I went to buy some shoes. We decided to go to Academy and wow....place is a total nightmare for shoes. The poor guy that was helping us looked like he had been beat up having to search everywhere for a size or a color. What we thought would be 20 or 30 min turned into over an hour and a half. They have dozens of shoes on display that they only have 1 size in, we found shoes in the mess of boxes they didnt have on display and when you find a shoe you have to dig through hundreds of boxes just find your size. My shoes ended up being 2 shelves below and about 7 shoe styles over from where the display was. This place needs some serious management. I will not go back.

I was in the market for a kayak, so I thought Id try this place out. I found a really nice one for a great price, but when I asked about it, the guy just said, "Oh, that price is wrong." He took the sign down and walked away, not offering any other help. I could have pushed the issue with a manager, but I decided they didnt seem to eager to have me as a customer, anyway. I left, went to Dicks, and found an even better deal (with the proper price tag) and received much more help from nicer sales staff. I will not be going back to Academy for awhile. I hope they improve their attitude, or they wont last long here in Knoxville.

Worst customer service i have ever experienced, i called in to make sure they had a squat bench and the employee said he checked and they still had a couple left, i got there 30 min later and they did not have it. Then they said i must have called another store, bunch of liars. I tried to purchase a display rack that they had for sale but they said that they could not take the 4 screws out for me to be able to take it home, they said they were not qualified to do that, they said a specialist came to build it and they were not trained, it was only 4 nuts/bolts! Lazy bunch at this store, will never go back to buy from them.

This was an internet order for a kids cart. The cart arrived in a box that had been damaged, was taped over and shipped anyway. It was scratched and marked with a "sharpie" like pen as if it had been returned and someone in the warehouse marked it up and then shipped it right back out. I returned it to the Knoxville store. The cashier had to go get a manager to approve the refund of shipping. I was still shorted $0.75, something about a difference in taxes??? Academy rejected my online review because "it did not meet website guidelines" ... of course it didnt ...

Academy is just OK. I was looking for hard court tennis shoes. The aisle labeled for them had none. I checked the last years model section... Nothing. I checked the clearance section... Nothing again and in addition the shoes were either not priced correctly or it was the WORST clearance section Ive ever looked thru... In addition, the staff was 17-20yos and some were openly discussing hot-wiring a vehicle. Im not an old, grumpy dude, but thats a little far for an on-the-clock conversation. Anyway, Id recommend only going if you HAD to....

Went in to this store for their Fathers Day Taurus/Heritage promotion this week. I was in the store the day before the promotion was scheduled to end. I waited to be helped at the gun counter for 30 minutes before even being acknowledged. I asked about the promo and was shown a sign stating that they had issued rainchecks for this promo, but that they were no longer issuing them. Offering rainchecks to some and cancelling the promotion before the advertised date is a poor business practice. I will not be returning to this store.

Just want to say that Greg in team sports and Michael the manager provided probably the best customer service I have ever received. Told them about a basketball goal issue I had from a goal I bought there and they replaced it dor free with no questions asked. Extremely professional, courteous, polite and helpful. There is a Dicks sporting goods right near my house but I will continue to make the 30 minute drive on a weekly basis for sporting good needs to Academy in Knoxville. Thanks again Greg & Michael.

While checking out I asked if they gave military discounts. The clerk asked a manager and the manager told him what to do. The clerk forgot to apply the discount and closed the transaction. I didnt bother to bring it back up and started to go. The manager noticed and got my attention and asked me to wait just a second. He opened the drawer and handed me cash directly. I was overwhelmed by the thoughtful way the employees showed their appreciation for military and Veterans. A special thanks to Desi.
