Does anyone use the word "Yuppie" anymore? If not, just look it up. This is definitely a Yuppie hang-out. I went here with a group on Fri. night. I had read the reviews, which were very mixed, so didnt know what to expect. Im always going to be wary when the former Yelp CM gives a one star review. I have to say, he was right. My first impression when I walked in, was not great. There was a big butcher case of raw meat and the accompanying odor. Yes, I know that this is called, "The Butcher Shop," which I find to be a turn-off to start with, but I wasnt expecting the smell of raw meat. I also get that cooked meat comes from raw meat, but I dont like eating one while sitting in the room with a big cold case of the other. There were also implements of animal destruction hanging from the walls. Necessary for the job? Yes. Appetizing? Definitely not. At least we were at a table away from the meat case. We sat down at a long table with our friends. All of the chairs are barstools with no backs. I was told that this was "trendy." Okay, be trendy, but find a way to do it so that older people with bad backs can think of something besides how uncomfortable they are. The stools were narrow and wobbled. The table wasnt stable either. One of our party started to lean on one for a pic and almost knocked the table over. I had planned to have a mixed drink, since Im not a beer drinker. I looked at the cocktail menu, but there were no prices. Uh-huh. Thats never a good sign. I asked one of the group and was told that the drinks were in the $14 range. No thanks, well drinks, using bottom shelf liquor for $14? I dont think so. So, water it was. I did try some of a white wine that was ordered for the table. I dont think Ive been to many (if any) restaurants that would serve a bottle of white wine without an ice bucket to keep it chilled. It was on the warm side when I tried it, and just awful. On to the menu. The prices were probably about average for this area of Miami. I ordered the plain hamburger for $11. I had seen a review that it came on a pretzel bun, but it didnt. The service was fairly prompt. Theres nothing I love more than a good burger, but thats not what I got. It was so overcooked and dry that I could barely swallow it. So I did something that I dont think Ive ever done before - I sent it back. Something has to be a big problem for me to even think about sending it back, let alone actually do it. But, I cant afford $11 for a burger that I cant eat. So, I switched for a bratwurst on what was supposed to be a pretzel stick. The sausage was quite salty, but the flavor wasnt bad. The roll didnt taste like a pretzel, but it was okay. With all of the restaurants in this area to choose from, there must be a lot of better options.

I am going to give this restaurant a 2, but I will break this place down with different stars. But first, I will tell you we had a large party, around 15, so that may have affected the service. Not sure, just going to give you our experience. This all happened within the four hours we were there! Yes, FOUR hours! Not because we kept ordering, but because the wait for our food and bill. 1 Stars: Kitchen - We waited at least an hour, probably more, for our main dishes to be brought to the table. Butchers Cut Steak - I am trying to understand why any chef in any restaurant would cut the steak prior to cooking it. The steak was ordered rare, and it came out medium. Also, since it was cut prior to cooking, it lost all of its juices while cooking. Very disappointing. To top it off, there was a nice little hair hiding under my steak. Did not eat the steak. Bill - DO NOT TRY TO SPLIT YOUR BILL IF YOU HAVE A LARGE PARTY! They will take about 20 minutes to try and figure it out, and maybe get it wrong like they did with ours. Food - Four dishes were brought out, then 20 minutes later another dish, then 20 minutes after that the rest came out. 2 Stars: Other patrons - I felt like some other patrons were always looking down their noses towards our table. not sure if it is because we were in Wynwood, but these people failed to realize, WE ARE EATING AT THE SAME PLACE! That means we can afford to dine next to you! Music - Like others writing reviews, the music was a little loud, but hey, its outside and a bar. 3 Stars: The Manager - He only came over after we asked for him. The staff never tried to send him out to us or tell us they are looking into why it is taking over an hour to have our food brought to the table. 4 Stars: Staff - The staff were nice, somewhat competent and very friendly. They dealt with us as well as any wait staff. 5 Stars: The Appetizers - These things were awesome. They came out relatively quick and very tasty. The only issue was the House Wings were not as hot as they claimed to be. But still very delicious. Eggs Benedict - Really good and tasty So, there it is, our experience at the Butcher Shop. Not sure why it is called the Butcher Shop, because they really didnt make it fell like they were a steak place. It felt like any other regular restaurant and they just wanted a catchy name. They only had 2 steaks on the menu.

I had high hopes for this place after hearing good things from a friend but unfortunately left pretty disappointed. It has a nice ambience (outdoor bier-garten feel) and they have a wide range of beers/cocktails to choose from. We ordered a pitcher of Wynwood IPA (Pitchers are $25 and pints are $8 regardless of brand/type) but for some reason our waitress did not understand this. Instead she brought us three random samples of a porter, wheat beer, and cider for us to try (which we did not ask for but was nice I guess). After telling her again that we just wanted the Wynwood IPA she did bring us a pitcher but we found out later that it was a Lagunitas IPA. Also, you get plastic cups for your beer when you order a pitcher which I thought was strange since your water cups are these awesome beer steins. Seems like an odd choice but whatever. On to the food...our table had a Butcher Cuban, a turkey burger, and a cheddar-jalapeno wurst. The fries were good and the turkey burger was tasty and moist. However, the Cuban was one of the worst Ive ever had. The ciabatta bread was very mushy and felt like it had been sitting around a while. Also, they attempted to put their own twist on the beloved cubano by adding pickled string beans instead of normal pickles, which is not an improvement to say the least. Theres a reason why you dont fix something that isnt broken. It was bland and disappointing. The most egregious part of the meal was the cheddar-jalapeno wurst. The Butcher Shop apparently prides itself on its sausages and cuts of meat so when we noticed that there was neither cheddar nor jalapeno inside this sausage we assumed they must have made a mistake. After alerting our waitress, she brought it back to the kitchen to check but then returned to tell us that it was in fact the cheddar-jalapeno wurst. We decided to slice it open to see if we could find evidence of either but were unsuccessful (it didnt even have the flavors). Id like to think that this is not the norm for this place since it seems like it has great potential but overall Id say grab a beer here but save your appetite for somewhere else.
