I came into the Altamonte Springs, Florida store located in the Altamonte Mall about 8:30 PM, just before the mall closed at 9:00 PM (Barnes and Nobles close at 10:00 PM). Everything was fine until we (my wife and 2 young kids) cashed out. The cashier was polite but tried to sell me on their rewards program that cost $25 to join. After declining either three or four times, he became barefaced, upset that we did not join. While rounding up our kids, my wife noticed his discontent look from a distance. She even asked me why he was upset because she did not hear the conversation. I shrugged it off and my family and I proceeded to exit through the mall entrance. Immediately, we noticed the gate leading into the mall was already closed; I looked at my I-phone, it was 8:56 PM. We needed to exit through the mall because we were parked literally on the other side of the mall. Toting around a 3 and a 5-year-old kid who were already tired, around the outside of the mall, would have been too much. Besides, it wasn’t even 9:00 PM yet. After looking around for an employee for several minutes, I spotted three of them talking amongst themselves. I walked up and asked if they could open the gate so that we could exit. An employee named Sally said they are required to close the gate at 9:00 PM. I said I get that, however, it was closed at least several minutes before and it still is not 9:00 PM yet. Sally rudely exclaimed, “it is 9:00 PM, sir!” She continued to tell me that once the gate is shut, she can’t re-open it. Fed up with the ridiculous conversation and her concocted gate story, I pulled my phone back out of my pocket and showed her that it was 8:59 PM. She became visibly disgusted as she apparently decided to comply with my request. I say apparently because she didn’t say anything, she just let out a grunt to show her obvious disgust and started walking towards the exit where my wife and kids were waiting. Sally was so annoyed that when my wife thanked her, Sally wouldn’t even look at her or respond to her. This is the part which infuriated me and prompted me to ask for her name. Sally was not respectful or polite or courteous in front of my kids. Even my five-year-old daughter picked up on Sally’s behavior and talked about it all the way to the car. All of this was pointless and could have been avoided had Sally and her co-workers followed their own procedures about closing the gate at 9:00 PM when the mall is set to close. Sally’s actions and behavior is completely unacceptable. Furthermore, because of this, my family and I will no longer be a patron of that store.

This was my first time here, Im from New England & was excited to go to this Barnes because it was attached to the mall and back home they are not like that. I had called prior to arriving to make sure they had my book in stock, it was a new release only 3 days old and they assured me they had 6 copies on hand. I get there & find the section very quickly, I notice its nowhere in sight. I head over to the register and ask the man for some help since I’m not familiar with this particular store and figured it might not be where it normally is since its so new. He was nice enough, couldn’t really work the computer but thats not such an issue, what was an issue however was the fact that he said it might not even have been put out yet. I asked if there was anybody else who could help me and why it wasn’t on display, he said its a big store and they cant get everything out when they are supposed to then sent me over to the information desk. This guy sends me back to where I started and tells me I am not looking in the right section, so I figure he must perform some sort of magic because there was no way I missed it. Still I let him stare into the cases waiting for it to appear out of thin air. This of course never happened & he had us walk back to his desk only for him to tell me the same thing I had called for, letting me know there are 6 copies in the store. He huffs and puffs about how he has to go check "receiving" as if this isn’t part of his job? Sir I am so sorry that I’ve interrupted your flirting with a girl you have no chance with at the counter, forgive me for asking you to help me out. 15 minutes later he comes back empty handed and lets me know he cant find a single copy and theres nothing he can do. Try booksamillion. I called and they psychically put the copy on hold with my name, she even finished my sentence when I said I went looking for it "and Barnes a Noble said they had it"

Its okay...if youre bored...and youre in the area. For me though, the selections in each genre dont run deep enough. Mall branches like this are smaller in general I guess. With me, for example: I like biographies and big ole computer books lately. In order to get a good, deep selection, I usually end up going to the location at 2418 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32803 instead -- a nice, big, two-story location. Also, getting in and out of this place, and moving around once you get in -- it can be a pain. With the foot traffic coming in from the mall, cutting through -- to exit to the parking lot -- it can be hectic to navigate. The entrance to the Altamonte Mall from 436 can be a pain too. Parking? Pain. Exit? Pain. If youre feeling patient, its not bad.

I recently went to this Barnes and Nobles to buy a dvd. When I went to enter the music and dvd center around 10 pm there was no one there to help me. Apparently they closed down the center for the night. This is a major disappointment and terrible service. The general manager of this store should be alerted and if he/she knows, they should be reprimanded.

The coffee shop worker was rude and then, the other one made me the wrong drink. There was one nice worker but, it didnt really make up for the rude service by the others. The rest of the shop is fine. It is clean. Nothing special. I mean, its at the mall so, theres that. I like the barnes and Noble at Waterford by UCF better. Nicer people there too.

My first impression was the restroom..I went there first to wash my hands. How disgusting and SO outdated. Then I bought a book went to the Starbucks INSIDE the bookstore-ordered a sandwich and coffee..Only to be told they dont accept Starbucks cards. Not a good way to start the day.

Great selection of books, stationary, magazines, music and educational toys. Cafe is always busy.If youre a teacher make sure you get an educator card for further discounts. Enjoy and remember never to judge a book by its cover :)

It is nice to be able to go into a real bookstore and browse real books. This Barnes & Noble follows the traditional once-popular layout of books, magazines, and CDs/music. The store is clean, and the staff is friendly.

This place has a lot of books. But when it comes to sci-fi such as War Hammer theres only the basic old reads to choose from. I generally like it here for the kids section and learning books.
