I will never shop here again. And I wouldnt recommend shopping here if you are a woman or if you dont know where everything is located in the store... The tiny quarters are FILLED with employees, yet when you ask someone a question they snip at you as if you havent been wandering the aisles looking for the same item for 30 minutes. The older men have consistently snapped at me on multiple occasions. To their credit, all of the younger men are quite helpful and polite. I am very disappointed, as I grew up going to the local hardware store with my Dad back home... and I prefer to support local businesses. In this case, I would rather go to Walmart.

Just got off the phone with them asking for some specific electrical equipment, and right off the bat the man said very condescendingly that he couldnt understand a word of what I said, despite me speaking very clearly. Once he understood what I was asking for he said "No one here knows what that is" and abruptly hung up the phone. I guess business must be booming for these guys during a recession where they feel they could treat potential customers this way. For the record "Anderson Connectors" are very common pieces of electrical equipment. Will never shop here, and would be more than happy to tell people where NOT to go after this experience.

My husband and I spent the summer dealing with extremely rude and unhelpful home depot and lowes sales people while we were renovating parts of our house. We found this hardware store recently, and absolutely love it. The prices are comparable to a bigger hardware store, and the service is impeccable. They are patient and are willing to help people like me - who dont know the difference between a Phillips screwdriver and a slotted screwdriver. In the end, nice people, great location, and they have everything you can ask for...

True Value is my neighborhood hardware store. Whenever Ive stopped by, this place has always been jam-packed with customers. Despite the small size of the store, they always seem to have everything I need. However, unless you enjoy wandering around the store aimlessly, the key to is ask one of their very helpful employees to help you find items (where can I find a toilet gasket for a leaky toilet? What kind of wood glue should I buy to fix an antique table?) They always seem to know best.

Ive shopped at this store for a decade and its *great* experience always but thats because Im picky about who I will let help me. Some know what theyre doing, others dont. That explains why these reviews or so high and then so low. Some of the guys are incredibly knowledgeable and terrific and some of them -- when youre alone with them and the others arent listening -- just blow you off or give you bad advice.

It is like the bag of gifts Santa carries... always more at the bottom.. When you think there is no way they will have such an esoteric, specialized part, they dig deep and come up with just what you need! Much more than a local hardware store. Of course, they have all the usual stuff, too. And the service is terrific. One-on-one care for you -- and instruction if needed. All-round great place.

I love this place! Today I went in to buy a teeny screw drive and battery for my car key. Getting it from a dealer would have taken 2 weeks and about $400. The 2 young women upfront pulled a screwdriver out of the display, took off the casings around my key, put in a new battery and in 10 minutes tops I was out of there for $4 NOT $400.

One of the top four hardware stores in DC. If you did not find what you wanted and expected to find at a modestly sized hardware store or received a less than cordial and knowledgeable service; you probably caught them on a bad day. In that case just go to your local (DC) Home Depot for an attitude adjustment. (smile)

The BEST example of what a neighborhood store should be - great selection (Ive always found exactly what I needed), helpful staff (everyone is not only nice but they also offer great suggestions) and decent prices (especially given the area). Our go to hardware place!

Awesome shopping experience with knowledgeable locals. They have pretty much anything you can think of here from wall anchors to pots and pans to door knobs to keys to brooms. Ask for the houseware section which is hidden in the back. Beats going to target any day.

John and his crew are incredible! Good people. Educated about their product and willing to go above and beyond to help a Lady in need. Theyve secured my business and my husbands. Thankful for honest, hardworking men who take care of their customers!!!

Very good service, on several visits - given good advice. They didnt just sell me something, they asked what my goal is and wanted me to get there. And the store is bigger than it looks - there is a lot of material in there.

I went there once looking for staples for a specialty stapler - the guy who worked there stood with me patiently trying out every staple they had in the store to see which one would work for me. Courteous staff = 6 stars!

...a briiliant neighborhood hardware store! This shop may not be "big-box" but the service and atmosphere is great. Since I moved to the burbs, I cant shop there often, but we stop by whenever were in D.C.

Convenient spot close enough to downtown to pick up any tools or supplies you might need. Staff is always very helpful with finding things in this jam-packed store.

They always have everything I need and are very helpful. I think they said that they have over 30,000 items. This is a real gem in the neighborhood!

The prices may be a little bit higher than youd find in the suburbs Atty a larger store but they have extremely helpful and friendly staff.
