Terrible customer service/apathetic sales associates at this store... To be fair, I am writing this review after an atrocious visit to the Banana Republic on 13th in downtown DC. I am an avid BR fan – in particular their convenient online shopping, shipping, and in-store returns. However, after today I may just keep my BR experiences to strictly ONLINE! My fiancé and I spent approximately 2 hours shopping and found a couple jeans and 3 sweaters for him (est $400). The sales associate (Veronica) said she would hold these while we ran other errands and I promised to return before 8 – this was at 6pm. Upon returning at 7:30, the clothes were nowhere to be found – but this is not the most disturbing part of the visit – the issue I take is with the ABOMINABLE customer service we received upon their discovery that the clothes were no longer held for us. Other than a brief “sorry about that” there was nothing … including the sales associate walking away from us when my fiancé informed her he just found 2 of the garments side by side on the rack. Following up with the manager was no better, as she simply said she was sorry once again and then tried to provide excuses. The simple fact is that the with as many great retail stores there are to venture to – it is absolutely inexcusable to NOT have the best experience, at least customer service wise, when spending the money we work so hard for and the free time that is so rare to come by these days.

Been there a few times...usually not the most pleasant experience...the worst one was yesterday when I went in to buy two dresses and I asked about military discount. The cashier said that it usually does not work with the extra 40% off promo, but she would try. She entered it manually and I got the military discount on one dress and not the other. When I asked why that was, she gave me at least 4-5 versions as to why, which neither made sense. The discount applies to the whole purchase and not to an individual item according to her, so any further explanation is useless. I had to ask for a manager to step in because the girl just did not what she was talking about it. The manager was very courteous and gave me the discount on the other dress as well. She further explained to me that military discount does not apply to the extra 40% promo, but she did it for me anyway. I appreciated it that. In the future, it is best to say flat out it does not apply and not do it.

I frequently shop at BR, but first time at this location. I went to buy a suit yesterday, and the arm length and skirt length were both too long. When inquiring about tailoring the suit, the sales person told me the sleeves of the suit were supposed to hit the knuckles of your hand. I know this is not correct, but she insisted. She was nice about it at least. I had interactions with 2 other sales people who were not necessarily rude, but not helpful and far from what I would expect from BR. I think this store manager needs to train his/her staff in customer service a little better and in how to measure for tailoring a suit! 2 stars for this store location.

I am a loyal customer of Banana Republic and majority of the branches Ive visited employ nice and professional staff. The branch in DC (near Metro station) is, unfortunately, an exception. The staff who answered my phone call is: - rude - placed me on hold twice, and it took a looooong time for me to wait, only to be asked the same question as to what the call is about - seriously, she should be fired or at least not allowed to handle phone calls (I placed my call around 3:35 pm on October 27, 2009, Tuesday). I ended up calling a staff at Pentagon City branch, and my question was answered promptly and professionally.

I shop at BR a lot, but usually only online because of the snooty staff. This location was more than helpful when I visited to return an item (which I happened to purchase--you guessed it--online). They gave me zero grief about processing the return, even when I forgot to include the little plastic bag that they put the original item inside for shipping. I felt welcomed and valued at this location, and will shop again, IN PERSON!

I called on Saturday afternoon and the woman who answered provided excellent service. She went out of her way to see if they had an item in stock. I will update if my experience at the store is better.

Nice cloths and bags but poor staff, lack of professionalism and lazy! If U like something just grab and avoid any contact with them!

Similar experience as other banana republic stores. No petite section, and sale section is pretty small

Smallish Banana Republic, but an advantage of the smaller store is that the staff are really helpful.
