First of all i live in casper wy, im 24 the first time i went to this store i was 16, for my japanese class, and i found alot of wonders and all sorts of food, well when i was 17 i got the opourtunity to go to Japan for my class and i fell in love with all the diffrent kinds of foods and drinks there ,i havent had much luck finding stuff online and i missed the products japan had to offer ,so i went to the Pacific Mercantile Company last year when i was 23 and it brought me back and the tea i drink that ito en tea like its crack,i cant get enough of it,but the prices some are a little high and some reasonably priced and some low .You have to remember that this stuffs imported from Japan and when i went there in 2005 the stuff was expensive Japan is an expensive way of living yes they do have cheapy cheap stuff in Japan but remember that importing stuff from there prpobably cost an arm and a couple legs.Anyways over all this store is a must go everytime i go to Colorado this is a must place to go for me im very open to cultures and this place is not bad place to get stuff from, amazon sells some the stuff but its limited, and unless u speak read japanese ,even if u took 4 years like me its very difficult to order stuff straight from the websites from japan and even then u have to find the sites that deliver global.

I had a similar experience as Bob did. I waited for a very long time for the old man behind the counter to even acknowledge me (even after several asian people had randomly walked up to the counter and were served before me). Almost a half an hour had passed when a Japanese speaking Caucasian woman had mentioned that I was waiting there. He proceeded to yell at the woman in Japanese and passed me a look that only people filled with hate give. Finally, after everyone had left the counter and had nothing to do, he finally approached me with his disdainful look and then proceeded to give me the most bruised, blood spot-ridden pice of garbage fish he could find and charged me a an arm and a leg for it. So basically I wasted the entire afternoon waiting for expensive low-quality fish! I heard that in Japan they speak of "Wa" (Harmony, Trust, Respect) and "Makoto" (Sincerity, Fairness, Honesty and Integrity). I hate to say it, but after my experience and reading the other peoples reviews who had similar experiences, this person has neither "Wa" nor "Makoto". His behavior is both racist and SHAMEFUL!

I love this place, or at least I wanted to and I did at first. The service on actual fish, which is the main reason I go there, is abysmal. Its like pulling teeth to get service in the fish aisle, plan on waiting 20 minutes just for the guy to appear. Its like a fish market that doesnt actually want to sell fish. Today he finally appeared, sneered at me, and cut me the worst possible cut on that piece of fish. It was not edible, I should not have paid for it. Hes been slow and very quiet with me before, like pretending he doesnt understand English, but hes never given me tripe fish like this before. Never going back, sorry. Theres other fish places, Denvers a big city. There is nothing in life worth being disrespected, and that old guy disrespected me. The more I think about it, the angrier I get. That old dude must have a really sad life, he must have done something horrible to deserve his fate.

Per Russ Baker review (4 months ago)that old man behind the fish counter should not even be there. He must be family as he has no retail skills and PM dont seem to care. Ive had numerous bad experiences with him too; now I treat him like he treats me, If youre not happy with whatever he slices up for you ask him to change it after all, youre the customer and you need to be satisfied. Before he wraps it, ask to see it. Also there"s a bell on the counter, ring it until he turns around to help you. I dont understand people like him, if we customers dont shop there, he wouldnt have a job. I just dismiss him as a grouchy old man whos unhappy with life.

I was so happy to have found Pacific Mercantile online, they stock a lot of food items I had difficulty finding for purchase here in the US. Furthermore, the customer service was extraordinary! Ms. Noguchi contacted me right away when the brand of lotus root I was purchasing wasnt in stock along with pictures of another brands lotus root they offered. She kept in touch with me right up to the time the items were shipped. The products I ordered arrived very quickly and were packed extremely well, and there was so much value for the price! It was such a pleasure to shop here and I will come back to order again and again! ^^

We have had the pleasure of shopping at Pacific Mercantile for over a decade. They have a wonderful selection of reasonably priced Japanese foods and housewares and are always dependably well stocked. We also enjoy seeing the familiar friendly faces of employees who are always willing to help. Although located in busy downtown, parking isnt a problem. Street parking is usually available, and if not there are dedicated parking spots for shoppers in the back of the complex. For our family, a trip to Pacific Mercantile is more than just grocery shopping, its the experience - a little taste of Japan right here in Denver!

Went in to buy fish for sushi… $70 worth. The people who work there are unfriendly and unhelpful. The tuna has a lot of bloodline in it and now Ill have to go to the Whole Foods in my Highlands Ranch neighborhood to buy more. I feel a little ripped-off and maybe it happened because they dont like white people. I suppose it could be cultural, this pervasive attitude throughout the place, but I dont think so. A shame, because they have masago and sushi-grade escolar.

I had a good experience at the mercantile. The staff was nice, I found all the supplies I needed to make good japanese food and it was all reasonably priced. However, I then got the fish. Bad Idea. Not only was it very expensive, but the cuts of meat they gave me which were "sushi grade" , were terrible. They were very streaked with fat, chewy and inedible. I was very disappointed. Ill be sticking to whole foods from now on.

This shop has a surprisingly large selection of Asian foods, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. I was pleased to find it but was disappointed in the service. It reminded me of NY Chinatown shopping, Asians served first. Maybe it was just an off day. I would not avoid going just because my experience was less than friendly. Still a great selection of food and supplies.

Excellent selection of Korean snacks at the best prices in town. They have Hawaiian Sun which is hard to find. Ramen selection is large. We prefer coming here over H-Mart because its almost 50% cheaper, especially on snacks. Their fresh produce selection is small, but they carry the basics. The nice guy and lady who run the store are very helpful and friendly.
