This is not A petstore in Colorado Springs, this is THE petstore of Colorado Springs. Stray wandered into our backyard and we decided to keep her, were healthy eaters and dont believe a pet deserves any less, so we skipped Petsmart or Petco with their grain and potato filled petfoods and found Ruffing It on google. The reviews seemed very positive so we took a trip along. We have not been back to another pet store since. The owner, Rachel, is a woman with a world of knowledge, it wouldnt surprise me if she took us in the back office to show us a wall festooned with animal nutrition doctorates. We explained the dogs breed and malnourished condition, she recommended a high-calorie grain free product, high in protein like petfood should be, that would bulk up the dog to get her back to fit and healthy. The food was a little on the pricey side compared to the swill sold at Petsmart, but I noticed on feeding it to the dog that far less was being consumed, the higher nutrition of Ruffing Its brands means my animal eats less. I switched my 3 cats over from Wellness to Weruva and BFF catfood after speaking to Rachel, my cats are much happier at mealtimes and actually consume all the food i put out, instead of leaving half of it to rot in their dish. One definite big difference (for those with indoor or yard animals) since switching all the animals over to holistic petfood like Weruva or Merricks, the smell of their "leavings" has decreased remarkably, none of my animals expel gas anymore either (petowners, you KNOW how that can clear a whole room!). One of the greatest things about this store and its staff - theyre not interested in ripping you off. Their primary concern seems to be putting the right nutrition into your dog and finding the right care that suits your animal whatever its problem, not just trying to get you to buy everything under the sun to line their pockets. Rachel asks details like what breed is the dog, how old, what you need from the dog (i.e some dogs are performance dogs and require a high performance diet) and will recommend what is best for your animal, not whats the most expensive product she has. When expressing concern over the comfort of the dogs hips and if we should buy a sleeping bed, we were standing in front of the $200 selection, she asked a few more questions, figured out the dog was trying to sleep on the bed to be near its owner and not because it was in pain from the hard floor - she recommended we buy the big squishy bed for only $60. We dropped the dog off to be groomed as her fur was too long and becoming matted, the groomer Kendal did a fantastic job. Not only did the dog walk out looking half the size it did, she was far happier at being much cooler from all the hair being cropped in, the shapeing was wonderful, even the fur next to her eyes had been shaved slightly - excellent attention to detail that focuses on the comfort of the dog and not just how pretty the owner wants it to look. This was all i had expected, but Kendal also clipped the dogs claws and gave her a teeth cleaning, when we picked her up Kendal had also tied the most adorable little bandana around the dogs neck. This is the best petstore I have ever been to, its not as huge as petsmart and wont carry as wide a range of items to cover all the pets one can own, but for cats and dogs, Rachel at Ruffing It is the lady to see, she wont steer you wrong. Like they say, good things come in small packages.

There are lots of toys, treats and other fun things here. Just be careful bringing your pet in; a lot of rawhides and bones are stores in the bottom shelves and your pup may try to steal one. Id say the pricing is somewhat comparable to petsmart, but there are unique things here that I havent found elsewhere (like Victor dog food, which is actually a healthy kibble with fantastic ingredients; it makes other store brands look like mcdonalds while still being very affordable). The dogs behind the counter seem to be in the process of being trained. They may not want to say hello to other dogs but I think its cool that the owner and employees are involved in other pet programs. (I think they are socializing these dogs to help them be rehomed). The staff is knowlegable and very helpful. I enjoy coming here and supporting a local business.

I thought the customer service was just wonderful. I made an over the phone order for delivery, I am not a dog owner. At the last minute someone I am close with needed a place for their dog at short notice, just for a few days. The manager at the S. Academy location helped me with everything for the dogs breed and size. Toys to treats and most importantly food. She explained different kind’s foods and the appropriate feeding regimens. She gave me a quick doggy tutorial and to top if it off the order was here in 10 minutes. It was at a great price, I even got a free 5lb bag with the purchase of a 15ib bag and an additional $4 off as a special for the choice I went with. Great business and professional service. I will use them again when I get my kids their own dog!!!

I love Ruffing It - we have a new puppy and he was having some stomach issues. I was a little taken aback by the prices at the box stores - and did not trust the quality. I went to Ruffing It and got all natural food for my pup and that solved the problem. They also do nail trims for a very reasonable price. I also love their natural treats - Most of all they are experienced with dogs (and cats) and will fit harnesses and take all the time that is necessary to make sure your dog is getting the right fit. Other than that I like the idea of supporting a local business.

Has a military discount and high quality food and treats. My giant dog has a sensitive stomach and it took multiple tries with other food before I discovered Ruffing It and they helped me find a good food on the first try. Even the treats are much better quality. They also talked to me about how to determine the right bowl height for my Great Dane. I highly recommend this place to anyone hoping for a healthier pup. The people really seem to care and do a great job helping you find what you are looking for.

Deceitful. I have been shopping there for almost 3 years. They have routinely not applied my military discount. They claim each time I ask that it is on the account, then when I question why it isnt cheaper, the manager states my account has never had a discount attached to it. Thats hilarious because I have shown my military ID everything I shop. Stunning and manipulative. Advertise a discount and then fail to apply it. Of course when anyone questions the discrepancy, just lie.

I wish they still did cat grooming, but I understand that cat groomers are tough to find. They are still our go-to shop for cat food, toys & items. They have been so helpful with our difficult & sickly cats, with recommending foods to try, giving us samples, etc. When we adopt a dog at the end of this month, I expect Ill be talking to them about their recommendation of what food to feed him. Im thrilled that we have found such a knowledgeable resource, & so close to home!
