I was on business in Denver and had an afternoon freed up. Called around for local bike guides with no last minute availability to which I tried Golden Bear Bikes out of desperation. Tech named Cody worked with me having described that I didnt bring any bike gear, just jogging clothes and a laptop backpack and wanted to ride Apex (listed top in Denver area). No problem. He setup me up for a Trek Fuel 8 carbon demo and I watched the care he took in inspecting everything on the demo, wiped down the tires to check for slashes, triple checked the drive train, ensured suspensions were tuned, fixed a broken dropper post lever before letting it out. What was key for me also was the shop lent me a pack with tools/patch/CO2/spare and a helmet and off I went to Apex Trails for the afternoon for a $75 demo fee that goes towards a new bike. From not expecting to bike in Denver to having confidence with a demo bike on Apex (first for both) I had an absolutely blast going down hill letting off the brakes on that Trek demo to hit the few small drops and take off on undulations and had confidence the brakes dialed in when needed on the tight switch backs! That was memorable customer service for a non-local biker who would unlikely be buying a bike from them any time soon. In fact they also did a great job for Trek as it was a solid demo ride. So, my thought here is if they can do that for me, Id say the folks who live in Denver have a real gem of a local bike shop (LBS) with a tech like Cody whos a bmx/freestyle biker himself where your ride is in good hands.

Frank (new owner), it looked you were having a bad day when I came into your store this morning at 9:15AM. I have to tell you, your customer service is terrible and I am disappointed in your response this morning. I have purchased from Golden Bear in the past, in fact when you first took over the shop I was buying my Trek mountain bike. The comment you made about "do you live around here?? why wouldnt you buy local?" was very insulting. Not that its any of your business, but I have an account with Trek and have had a hard time finding the ION 700/signal and flare combo in stock here locally. Had you had not been so quick to have an attitude and offer to exchange (like all Trek Dealers are authorized to do with the receipt) on the Bontrager wireless light set, I was going to pick up some more accessories and was looking at the new 2017 Trek mountain bikes...I was also going to say how nice the store looks, much better layout. I would have liked to purchase the Bontrager light combo this morning and I was going to return my original package to Trek. Looks like we didnt get that chance this morning. I will stick purchasing local through Wheat ridge Cyclery where I always have great customer service.

Ive read some of the negative comments about this bike shop and my experiences have been the COMPLETE opposite. I have never worked with the owner so I cannot comment about his attitude or how he treats people, but I always give people the benefit of the doubt because they could just be having a bad day, it happens. I can say that Eric is the best tech ever and I usually work directly with him. Hes straight forward, offers up his ideas nicely, his follow up is fantastic (calls me when my bikes are ready), and hes about the friendliest guy Ive ever met. Their prices have always been VERY reasonable and the work has been excellent, that’s been my experience. I do know that Golden Bear Bikes comes to our community center every so often and does a bike maintenance class for our residents for NO CHARGE. They also sponsor some activities within our community and give away free stuff. If a business is doing that on a regular basis, they can’t be all bad. Anyway I hope this review is helpful to others.

I really wanted to like this bike shop and have been there several times. If I can get their attention, I get to pay a higher price, receive poor service and get absolutely lousy advice. Today, I waited for a half hour to talk to a service person only to be passed over for the next person that walked in the door. Im done with them, Ill take my business to one of the shops in Boulder or Westminster where they want service business and not just to sell you a new bike. Edit: decided to give the shop another try this weekend and had a good experience. The guys that I talked to were knowledgeable and friendly. Ill be back stopping back by and if they keep improving I will update this review again. Edit #2 had a recent tuneup, it was another good experience and they fixed everything I asked them to. Will return again.

AVOID THIS BIKE SHOP AT ALL COSTS. The owner is rude, inattentive, and INCREDIBLY condescending and most of the employees are as well (with the exception of Kevin - who was actually very nice). In the last year, I have spent thousands of dollars in this store, yet when I asked them to make an adjustment to a bike I recently purchased, they tried to convince me that I did not need the adjustment. They made it seem as if I was being unreasonable to even want the adjustment. They were so rude and they tried to dissuade me. I cannot believe that they are still in business. What ever happened to customer service? This is something they have absolutely NO concept of. I will never, ever send business their way nor will I ever go back to that store. Take my advice, go to ANY other bike shop.

Im not sure if its a unique phenomenon in CO but my experience with bike shops around here is they have a really poor customer service culture where staff make you feel like youre an idiot because you dont work on bikes every day. Generally they act as if theyre somehow superior to you because they know how to work on bikes. Which is comical on so many levels but I digress because Golden Bear is NOT that type bike shop. The staff are nice, knowledgeable, and they carry my favorite line of bikes (Cannondale). Ive bought 2 bikes there and gladly drive by a half dozen bike shops just to take my biz to Golden Bear. Would recommend them to anyone near Broomfield. They are simply the best around here.

Outstanding bike shop. We were recommended to Golden Bear by a fellow employee. We had visited several local shops in the Denver area. While all were helpful and courteous, none were as honest, patient and willing to help than Golden Bear. They even worked on finding special deals on the bicycles we purchased, and gave us a discount on accessories to go along with the bikes. The entire process was efficient, painless and left us feeling like we were truly valued customers. We will be coming back, and indeed may not do business with any other bike shop in our future bicycle endeavors.

It seems like all of the positive reviews are from people who purchase bikes here, rather than repairs/tune ups. I brought my bike in to get cleaned and tuned, picked it up a few a days later and sprockets, chain and derailleurs were still filthy. They barely touched it and Im $70 less now. I give two stars instead of one because the guy seemed nice, but when I picked it up they insisted that they tuned it, even though they obviously did nothing to it. For tune-ups with bikes that are not from their shop, Golden Bear is dishonest, and they overcharge.
