Today I had a strange and inappropriate encounter with this stores Manager. I awakened early, wide awake, and decided to go grocery shopping before the store got crowded. I made my purchases at 5:34 a.m. per my receipt, and put them in my car. On the spur of the moment, I decided to stay, rather than drive all the way home and come back downtown later to do things I had planned. Among my purchases was Tazo chai, almond milk, and a reusable Starbucks cup. I brought these back into the store, in the Safeway bag with my receipt, sat in the seating area (which had no other customers in it), and was reading a magazine as I drank the chai I purchased there. After a while, I heard a mans voice behind and nearby me saying something strange, which I ignored until the man was standing beside me, staring at me, still talking, apparently to me. "Pardon me?" I asked politely. He repeated, "You gotta roll on outta here. You cant hang out here anymore." Astonished at this language and this approach, and having no idea who he was, I replied, "Oh. Okay." He continued, "Youve been here over two hours. You gotta roll on outta here and go someplace else. You cant hang out here." Thats when I looked more closely at the man and discovered he was an employee of the store. I went to my car, where I discovered I had been in the seating area about an hour, not "more than two hours"; and I also became offended at the odd way the man spoke to me. I went back into the store to find the manager, only to discover that that odd man was the manager. Im a manager at a major computer firm, a homeowner, and my family and I (including my parents, my daughter and granddaughter) have been shopping at Safeway since their Woodside Road store opened in the 1960s; weve spent tens of thousands of dollars in their stores, buying groceries every week for fifty years. This "manager" acted as though giving me "the bums rush," which was extremely offensive, and would be rude even if I were the "homeless bum" apparently he bizarrely wrongfully assumed me to be. His disrespectful behavior says a lot about what kind of person he is. I discovered one sign posted on one wall in the seating area (about 30 feet behind me) stating that the area is only for paying customers, for 30 minutes "with purchase," a sign I did not see beforehand, and which Ive never seen at any other Safeway. The proper, and gentlemanly, way to have brought this to my attention would be to approach from the front, before speaking, then to say, politely, "Excuse me, maam. There is a 30 minute limit for seating in this area." The crude, bizarre, and unpleasant way that "manager" approached made even less sense given that I was the only person in the seating area, which has a dozen tables with chairs and bench seats for about 40 people; it was around 7 a.m., Saturday morning, and the store was not at all busy. Incidentally, there are no electrical plugs for customers in the seating area to plug in phones and computers, unlike other Safeways. Ordinarily I shop at this Safeway infrequently and leave as soon as I make purchases, because 1) unlike other Safeways, the staff at this one barely pay attention to customers: the staff always seems distracted and unsmiling (now its easy to see why); 2) the check-out lines usually are extremely long, and they dont call more clerks to help; 3) there are always uncollected shopping carts in the parking lot, many blocking parking spaces; I never see employees retrieving them, and 4) the ladies rest room is always dirty. Its obvious now that horrible management at this store is behind these problems. I give the store 2 stars because it does have a large selection of items, if youre willing to wait in long lines and accept indifferent customer service.

Outstanding service, great variety and the bakery is The Best! My highest praises for their Cashier-Manger/Store Manager?. Im sorry, I dont know her name (tall, short haired, thin built, blond woman). She is always diligent, amiable and caring. Unlike the other cashiers who have a habit of NEVER helping us bag our groceries. Despite our usually $150 spending (2-3 times a week). Baggers ignore us or run to another customer, who has spent less than $20. Hence, this womans dedication to ALL customer regardless of skin colors or language is Admirable and Highly Valued in this times of turmoil.

Every visit to this location includes someone asking you for a donation of some sort when you enter and when you leave. Be warned. Ive been here many times and have been asked for money for the train, "any spare change", "a cigarette"... If not, there is a group of some sort at the entrance with a table and a box asking for your donation. Use your coupons becauae youll need extra money for the people outside!

had two items went to the express lane 15 items or less. The person in front of me had more than 15 items. I said to this person your in the wrong line you have more then 15 items, They acted like they could not hear. The Cashier didnt say a word to her. When I got to the cashier she said they cant say anything because they are customers. Take down the 15 items or more sign then.

Poorly trained employees Deli counter is particular is abysmal. I requested a hot sandwhich, and extra toppings. The clerk nodded her head, and proceeded to ignore me entirely. She knocked the sandwhich apart at the end while attempting to cut it. Oh jeez.. Ive met the manager of this store, and I cant believe someone could hold their head high with such crap employees

Parking lot very busy. I got lucky to park near the store. Couldnt find gluten free cookies. Suggestion...Could you put a Glutten free marker on all items that are glutten free? I am a visitor here. At home my store puts small purple circle on the small signs to really make shopping easier and takes a whole less time.

This safeway has by the the most inclusive deli that I have been to in the bay area. Sandwich meat and the usual chicken fingers/fries to Chinese food and even corn dogs. Occasionally have wine samples in the alcohol section as well. Definitively worth the extra drive if you are a Safeway shopper.

A lot of improvements can be made in the hot kitchen. for one maybe employee s can consider being clean shaven. the unkept beard look is not pleasant when trying to figure out if you want to order from the menu. There are sone basic hygienic rules that are expected from a kitchen area.

They have everything I need, good sales, and are usually well stocked. The pharmacy is horrible, though - long lines, prescriptions not ready after they text me to say its ready, out of medications, and very slow service (understaffed).

This store is horribly managed. Ive lived in RWC for 3 years and this store is consistently understaffed during the busiest hours. Wait times for checkout are painfully long. Im not sure why management continues to ignore this issue.

Long lines. Non-operational self-checkout kiosks. No Apple-Pay. No clerks in the aisles. No manager available when I offered to make a customer suggestion. New management needed. Ill revise my review when it becomes professional.
