After 6 P.M. on Valentine Day 2015, the Rancho Palos Verdes Flowers truck (license 8T57495) drove north without headlights along winding Palos Verdes Drive East from south of Miraleste Plaza. The driver had to continually brake at each of the many curves because of the difficulty seeing with illumination by only yellow running lights. The driver was forced to turn on the headlights briefly at one particularly challenging curve. He also turned on the headlights when he arrived at Peninsula Center. No deliveries occurred along Palos Verdes Drive East or from there to Peninsula Center. The driver apparently just wanted to get back to the shop. Perhaps the alternator had failed and he thought there might not be enough battery power if headlights were used as the law requires. Had the driver just parked the vehicle and telephoned for help instead of making this "heroic" run, it would have avoided putting the safety of others at risk.
