the first time i shopped here was 1989, then once i went into business and got my own shop in 2001 a few blocks from anawalts i stated shopping there alot, in the last 10 years ive went in and bought ALOT of things, but to my surprise customer loyality doesnt mean anything to anawalt, and i was told that straight to my face, ..... so here is what happened, last week i bought a bath faucet stem (50 bucks) but normally i would pay $26 for the same stem if i would have gone to fergusion where i have a account, but as i said before ive been loyal to anawalts for many years, anyways when i arrived at my customers house it turned out it was the wrong stem, furthermore upon opeing the package i then noticed that the bottom of the stem was slightly smashed, reguardless i took it back where it was inspected by the store manger and i was issued a refund, and in my opinion i thought he had seen the damage then but i guess not becasue the following visit a few days later to anawalts i was approached by the store mgr. and i was right out accused of "stealing" the bottom washer off the stem before returning it.... but honestly the washer was missing when i bought it, i now know this because when i bought it i would have noticed weather it was a "cold" or "hot" colored marked washer, (since i was repairing the cold side of a faucet) to make a long story short the washer was missing from the package when i bought it, ...... in short, anawalt may think that they lost 1 customer (me), but in reality they lost hundreds and hundreds perhaps thousands of customers, because all that material ive purchased from them over the past decade wasnt paid by me.... but paid for by my customers, 1000s of customers, i mearly was just the "goofer" plumber dropping in at anawalts picking up the material for all of them,, one cumstomer at a time, then taking the items and materials back to each of my customers WITH reciept where they would reinburst me......... NONE of these customer will never purchase anything at north hollywood anawalts EVER again, because all my work is in the LA area, they simpily do not live anywhere near anawalts.... SECOND, ive seen cashiers at anawalts come and go over the years, but as i said before, anawalt does not Appreciate customer loyality, mangement would rather stick up for a short lived min. wage worker than a loyal custumer.... you would think that comes from just bad customer service but in reality its stems from just plain ignornace on the part of the owner..... ... sooooo there you have it............sorry for any typos, i do not spell check,

I gave the store "good" on quality and appeal, and service got a "fair". The merchandise is definitely of good quality, however it seems that whenever I go in there I find the selection to be surprisingly limited, and often is the time when I leave without something I need for whatever project Im working on. Example: adjustable shelf brackets. They carry white, silver, brushed silver, bronze... but not black. Why not black? Its a pretty basic, universal color for shelf standards and brackets. And of course, black is the color I need. The same applies to screws and bolts, accessories, and other such items... Ill need a certain screw of a certain length and if they have the screw with the matching thread it wont come in the length I need. Happens all the time. The store has a very open feel to it, and a sense of a lot of unused or under-used space. Perhaps a rearranging of the floorplan could utilize the space better and provide room enough that they could finally stock the inventory they are lacking :) The staff is usually eager to help find things or answer questions, but I have found that it is best to ask for answers and advice from one of the older gentlemen in the lumber area, as they know their inventory and their "stuff". Walt is who I usually deal with. He and I talk the same language, more or less. The young sales floor personnel tend to make earnest guesses as to what the item I want might be (usually it ends up being something they dont carry), but they just dont have the knowledge and experience with hardware that their seniors do. I often end up using my own former retail hardware and construction experience in teaching someone something about "the old way" of doing things. I guess my disappointment comes from the fact that I used to shop at another True Value hardware store - Baller Hardware in Silver Lake - and I never ran into the problems I have at Anawalt. But now that I live within walking distance, Anawalt is my "go to" store. If nothing else, its a place to start even when I have to finish somewhere else.

I am a retired contractor living in close proximity to Anawalt Lumber here in North Hollywood, Burbank Blvd and Vineland Ave. . I love to hop on my bike, go down there, get what I want, interact with friendly staff and be on my way. Just like going to the local store in the small farming town in New York State that I grew up in. . Cant praise Anawalt Lumber, North Hollywood., enough - FIVE STAR.

Im writing this after reading the last review. It is true this is a small local hardware store but I go here before any of the big stores. They are nice, helpful and you dont need to spend time sorting for usable lumber. If your looking for hardware not cheap BBQs, outdoor furniture, and long waits in checkout lines this is a great place to go.

experience here has always been positive for me. i always get asked if i need any assistance, very different from the bigger place a couple of miles north. good selection of home repair building supplies, spot focused on what a homeowner might actually need. i try to support smaller local stores in my area. sells and cuts lumber also, easy breezy.

Ive puchased many many things at Anawalt. I have to say, their prices are pretty good, especially since I dont need to go the the "big box" down the street where there is no customer service. Anawalts staff is always helpful, friendly and quick. I like when they cut the wood for me in house. It saves me a lot of time on small projects.

I like being able to park, walk into the store, find what Im looking for, get into a short line, pay and get back into the car in a relatively short amount of time without walking half a mile from the car to the product(s) I want and navigating through 100+ people like I have to do when I go to Home Depot or Lowes.

Anawalt in NoHo feels like a family owned store (if it isnt). Prices are sometimes a bit higher than Home Depot or Lowes, but the customer service is worth the extra pennies. Ive been shopping here for over 15 years, and Ive always found what Im looking for. Theyll even cut wood down to size for your home projects.

My "go to" store for many projects. Large selection of fasteners, including metric sizes. Woodworkers will appreciate their selection of hardwoods; I saw Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Alder, Birch, and Oak in a wide variety of widths and thicknesses. Employees have always been exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Love this place. Called 50 places and everyone wanted $50 to trim a door. Took it down to true value and the guy there did it in literally under a minute for free. Always super helpful for finding stuff inside. A dream compared to HD.
