everything you need in one place. great restaurants. snacks. ice cream. high end shopping. movie theaters. plenty of parking that is secured. elevators. escalators. the metro subway train to anywhere in Los Angeles. the Hollywood and Highland mall is a mecca for entertainment. dining. shopping. and an occasional free event whereas big names perform in the center of the mall outdoor stage for free. Hollywood and Highland is not just the center of Hollywood and the center of entertainment in Hollywood its the center of Los Angeles as well. boasting street performers with amazing talents coming from all over Los Angeles. and the United states to perform live on the walk of fame among the iconic stars on the sidewalk adjacent to Hollywood Boulevard. here you will see the many featured characters from iconic feature films in the former of lookalikes dressed to perfection as batman and superman. and many other famous characters from cinema. as well as lookalikes that mimic the biggest stars in music as well. this is the place to begin the walk on the walk of fame and see your favorite stars brass and terrazzo tile star embedded into the walk of fame. all five categories of stars that are given to celebrities can been seen adjacent to Hollywood and Highland. if you walk the entire walk of fame you will see only one famous entertainer has received a separate star for all five categories. Entertainers can be nominated in any one of five categories: Motion Pictures, Television, Radio, Recording and Live Performance/Theater. the first star on the walk of fame to pose and to be celebrated in a public event and was known for being the first recipient was Joanne woodward. in March of 1960. however it is believed that film director Stanley Kramers star was completed and placed permanently at Hollywood and Gower. The images on the stars in the aforementioned five categories are a classic film camera, a television set, a phonograph record, a microphone and the traditional comedy/tragedy masks representing theater. The only entertainer who has been nominated and approved for a star in all five categories was Gene Autry. Bob Hope, Tony Martin, Roy Rogers and Mickey Rooney have stars in four categories. Thirty-three entertainers, including Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra and Gale Storm have stars in three categories. Ronald Reagan is the only president with a star. In July 1978, the city of Los Angeles designated the Hollywood Walk of Fame a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. the attached photograph was taken by me Edward Bukowski in 1999 on the Hollywood Walk of fame. I have taken photos like this one since 1979 when I was just 13 years old and growing up in Hollywood.

Compared to the Hollywood Boulevard that I grew up to know as the only Hollywood Blvd. I knew this one doesn’t quite match up with when it comes to stuff I used to know. Like everything in tourist America that attracts Chinas and Europes well off there is a pile of glitz, glamor and neighborhood street kids trying to pull the "Take my CD" Con covering the Jonny Rocket Fueled streets. The police are always a presence and nothing more which is nice unless your the kind of person who enjoys the company of women of the night and in that case Id recommend sticking to craigslist because the only pretty woman walking around here will be dressed in high heels with an Adams apple and bigger shoe size then you. Hollywood lied to us all. They seem to be pioneers of trends that Im sure will soon be hitting the marketplace all over America soon with the store selling souvenirs which their sidewalk advertising crew will tell you (by yelling in your face while you pass them): "Everything is five bucks! " A far cry from the dollar stores I knew as the best bang for mine but Im sure if I look hard enough in here I will find a gun to put to my head and do the same. The retired Vietnam veterans still have a place on every corner with just enough room for their bottle of Cisco and pack of class B tar sticks to feel comfortable but there time is running out by the new generation of Iraq Veterans quickly moving in to take their place. The Mann Chinese is so over the top now with street performers and Hollywood club kids trying to curb their impending withdrawals by walking out of their nearby house and spitting out lines from popular movies in the hopes for a little coin to fill their spandex pockets in return. I dont even know whos stars I was walking, ashing or stepping on past the ones whos place in the concrete lay down by la Brea next to the frozen yougert place and smoke shop. Eg. Don Knotts .... You can never get enough Don Knotts... ... Never.

I go here frequently, mostly for the Chinese 6 Theatres and AFI FEST (which is free to the public but one of the largest film festivals in L.A.—even the red carpet galas are free to the public) which is held the first or second week of November for 8 days. Also every summer theres free jazz concerts in the central court on the first level each Tuesday evening, and for $10 (which goes to a charity) you can buy a boxed cheese and cracker plate and two tickets for a glass of wine each, both wine and cheese are of good quality and worth well over the price. There are some decent restaurants and shops, though Ive never shopped at any of the stores. My favorite Gastropub closed down after making it through the hard years of the recession then folding just as we cant out of it, but theres something for everyone there including bowling. Also the Dolby Theatre–formerly Kodak Theatre–where the Academy Awards are held each year. Its really quite a nice theatre with 3,401 seats. The Chinese 6 Theatres, part of the TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly Graumans. The Chinese 6 Theatres are up on the 3rd level of the Hollywood Highland complex and theres a bar and light snacks available. Chinese 1 is the largest of the 6 upstairs, with about 500 seats while the others vary but are smaller by half. Very comfortable, though my favorite theatre in L.A. is the main TCL Chinese Theatre down on Hollywood Blvd. It has one of the largest IMAX screens in the country and seats just under 1,000. Before it was bought and the seats and screen converted, the screen was the widest screen Ive ever seen and my favorite place to see films, and the chairs moved back to lazyboy style seating. It was lovely.

Review is on the parking here. Ok, if you can get here without problems and need to park quick (as in less than 2 hours), I highly recommend it. You can get validation from the shops. We got ours at Sweet! We had to pay $2 for 2 hours but thats a bargain in Hollywood prices. But the problem is , getting here is half the battle. If you go north on 101 and get off on Hollywood , its a pain as you get closer and closer to Highland. If you follow your GPS and try to cross Highland via Franklin, its nearly impossible during busy hours. (Lesson learned, dont trust your GPS). I had to revert back to Hollywood and turn right on Orange into the underground structure. You have to pay parking prior to leaving. Im not sure how much time they give you from the time you pay but it was definitely more than 10 minutes because we had to take escalators 4 floor and walk to our car and drive out after we paid from 4th floor. If you look at the street parking, do note there are plenty of places that have free parking after 8pm. Also look for the smaller streets that are nearby that has no meters if you dont like paying.
