I live in town so every so often I will stop in for a macchiato, mocha, or a latte... each time I try to go back with an open mind and give them another fair try but every single time I am greatly disappointed. I completely give up once and for all on their coffee. It is possibly the worst I have ever had. It tastes weak, burnt, like the machines havent been cleaned for months, and it is never ever consistent, each barista makes the drinks differently and not a single one of them can make coffee. I know this sounds incredibly harsh, but like I said I have given them more than a fair try. I have wanted to support the local businesses in my neighborhood but I am tired of spending money here for a terrible quality product. I literally wanted to turn around and take my coffee back today and just ask for a refund of my money instead of a new drink. Also, might I add, that just last week I took a couple of friends in there for lunch, and they made my friends coffee wrong, then argued with him and demanded that he pay extra money because of their mistake. They are lucky they get 2 stars. Step up your game, FO Coffee house.

I only review places I find exceptionally good or bad--and this place is wonderful! My #1 relaxing kick-back place for coffee, brunch, and a great conversation. Reminds me of the 60s--but with chickens underfoot instead of blaring rock music. If you want fancy, go elsewhere. If you like retro/hippy-go here! This is a perfect place to relax and share memories with an old friend or get an intimate "home-cooked" lunch with a new one. Ask an employee for their free crumbs and youll have the patio chicks eating "out of your hand," so to speak. Always friendly folk, never in a rush, feels so warm and welcoming on a cold winter day. But on a hot day, try their frozen yogurt selection. Employees do look organic, but NOT "drugged" as one bizarre review claimed. We have been regulars for decades, and NEVER found the service to be anything but friendly! Id say to try it, but Id rather keep this place a cozy secret from the crowds!

UPDATE 11/12/2009: I think this place has changed hands a couple of times since I wrote this review. Its currently in good hands--friendly, efficient, skilled. Im usually only their for coffee and pastry, but it does the trick for me. The seating area is comfortable and varied. And they have Wi-Fi, which I consider essential for any decent cafe. This coffee house is an asset to charming and homey Fair Oaks Village. This place used to be sort of stiff and square...I hadnt gone back to it for a couple of years. This morning I met a friend there, and I was amazed at the difference! its warm and arty and relaxed...a great place to sit and chat and start your day or take a break. I just had a mocha (which was too sweet, but I always think they are too sweet), but my friend had eggs and enjoyed them. The service was friendly without being phony or gushy. Ill definitely go back soon.

This place has been a comfortable welcoming spot to drink coffee beverages that Ive visited for over 20 years. They have tasty deli food and sandwiches as well as breakfast offerings. There is a serene side patio to enjoy warm weather and watch the locals. Its part of a colorful community of shops and restaurants and is located across the street from Fair Oaks park.

This place is wonderful. The sandwiches are very good. The coffee is great. I would highly recommend this place. Only beware that they are not very good at taking large orders and sometimes it takes time before the lunch is made for you (even if you order ahead). Dont misunderstand, however, if you have a little time make this place your regular spot!

What $buck aspires to be without false sophistication. They have a nice assortment of pastries and sandwiches depending on what time of day you call "morning" or "afternoon". A great way to start off a day on the American River. It is always a joy to sit back and relax with friends and family here.

Love this little spot. All the furniture is eclectic and I really liked their Christmas decor. The employees are very sweet and the breakfast was very good. I had a breakfast panini and a large cappuccino last time. They have a nice selection on their menu and everything comes out quick.

They are good at taking your hard earned money, just not so great at serving you your food in a timely fashion. Had others food served before me, ultimately had to get my money back after an hour wait. Terrible service, the employees look like they are on drugs. The bad kind of drugs.

it is a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for. plus, its a nice menu for a deli. I enjoy walking to the village and dropping by for a coffee from here and continuing to other shops. its pretty peaceful and I really enjoy the waterfall on the side. friendly staff.

This place is perfect for my work as the Coffee Shop Psychic! With its funky Fair Oaks Village feel, spacious indoor and outdoor seating, rich variety of food and drink, friendly and helpful staff, and kitty corner to Plaza Park, it has everything I could want!

Ive never ordered anything here other than coffee. This place does have a good atmosphere and a really good location, but the coffee is trash. If all you want is a decent cup of coffee, youre better off going to the gas station down the street.

Great food, bomb ass sandwiches and killer breakfasts. Very fun place with music nights, local art on the walls and a center table that serves as the de facto city council. Great staff, great coffee drinks.

Very nice small coffee shop. Eclectic atmosphere and a comfortable place to hang out in the village. They also have a deli counter with a large selection of sandwiches which is unusual for a coffee shop.

Always love the deli. Its a great place to grab a quick local bite or a drink and enjoy the village atmosphere after a massage at Geris Garden across the way or a bike ride by the river.

The chicken serenade while we enjoyed our beverages was delightful! Very friendly staff that was super accommodating! Great spot to lounge and slow down from the rat race of the city.

The pastries are phenomenal and very well priced, I believe everything is made in house. My only gripe is the coffee. It is brewed very weak. Now when I go I just bring my own coffee.

Great sandwiches. The bread they use is of the best quality. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is unique. This is a one of a kind place and helps make Old Fair Oaks special.

Love this little place! They have great baked goods and breakfast burritos. It does get pretty packed in the morning on the weekends but its definitely worth the wait.

The best breakfast burrito Ive ever had. The best time to visit is the morning. You may catch the seasoned regulars. Think the "View" meets Old Fair Oaks.

Fresh and tasty sandwiches. Yummy looking pastries. I want to go back for the pastries and Java City! Also, the service was great as well, very kind.
