This appears to be a tale of two stores: One that gets five stars as a shop into which locals can drop-in, shop, climb, pet a dog and generally have a good time, while the other is that of a one-star online retailer and distributor that, based on the feedback from the 1-star reviews, does not know how to fulfill an order nor provide customer service beyond its four walls. Take a look at the 1-star reviews, items arriving late or not at all, an order containing one ski...one ski!, items received as incomplete or not as advertised. My experience was similar in that a snowboard that I had ordered via Amazon several weeks ago just never shipped. No explanation. Neither GC, FedEx or Amazon could tell me where the board disappeared to. FedEx tracking showed that it got no farther than label creation. As someone who works in a distribution center, this by my interpretation means that GC created the label but a package never left the shop. And this order fulfillment failure is consistent with the Google and Yelp reviews related to product shipping and receiving. Amazon, demonstrating proper customer service, is refunding us for the board AND the bindings that we received (as promised from another vendor), but here we are with boots, bindings and all other gear ordered and received for our ski trip and Gear Coop could not deliver one board...literally. Very disappointed as we are left with no time to shop for another board before our trip.

I placed my first order, and the correct Patagonia item was delivered, but it wasnt the correct color. When I called customer service, Jessica informed me that the color I ordered was now sold out. I was at least sent a label for return shipping. I then placed a second order for a similar Patagonia product, and after waiting a week, I received an e-mail from a customer service rep (Jessica again) stating that the product I had ordered was no longer in stock. No credible reason as to why it took a week to make that determination or why their computer system would allow an order with no inventory. I purchased the same item from another vendor at a higher price and requested a refund for the difference from Gear Co-op. A customer service rep (yep, you guessed it-Jessica) contacted me and indicated that they wouldnt send a refund. Im not sure what the problem is with this company, but there have been enough red flags that I would not attempt to do business with Gear Co-op in the future. I hope that my experience has been an isolated incident and that others will fare better.

Trying to return an item...getting the run around. Nothing in the package. So, go back to the website to find out what needs to be done. Have to send an email requesting a "RMA". RMA comes a day later then told to go back to website to "Please visit your customer account, to note the conditions of your return product, access important documents, and follow the progress of the return." Cant find where this information is or where to input it. Tried calling, phone number listed is not working. Cant you just provide return information in the package that states the return address? Three days later and Im still no closer to returning the item. This will be the first and last time I do business with this outfit.

Ordered a Metolius Personal Anchor System through Amazon (sold by Gear Coop) that clearly stated it came with a blue Bravo locking carabiner. It didnt, though. The only remedy Amazon can offer is a return/refund. When I spoke with Jessica at the Gear Coop, I was told that the Gear Coop basically has no connection to this transaction and therefore no responsibility. This may be partly true, but its my opinion that a business should take full responsibility for anything sold under their name. Wont be purchasing anything from the Gear Coop ever again.

The people here are super friendly and nice! They even have a bouldering cave to try the shoes out. Also a great return policy. I went to buy a gym rope and the employees there were super helpful. One of them (i cant remember her name) helped me pick out a decent length rope and even went into the back to grab it since it wasnt on display up front. Then she helped me find a rope bag to go with it. They didnt try to steer me to the more expensive stuff that i didnt need, which I really appreciate. Ill definitely go back.

I love this shop. I am fortunate to be able to go to the retail store in Costa Mesa, but I have also ordered from them online and never had any issues. I have read other comments on here about delivery problems and that sounds like an Amazon issue. I have never had any issues with returns. Its nice to have another place to go other than REI for more specialized gear and better selections. The staff is great and this is my go to spot for all outdoor gear.

I LOVE Gear Coop. Lets get that straight but this little shop is really light on what I expected it to be. Small shop full of pricey high end gear. You really only need about 10 mines to figure out if its for you or not. Cool design but really lacks in delivering the true brand experience Im used to being wows by in a Gear Coop location. Check it out if you like, but youre not missing out on anything if you dont.

Cant say enough good things about these guys! By far, the best online retailer for outdoor gear. They have an excellent selection of climbing gear. And I have to commend their customer service. I bought a BlueWater rope from them and was really not pleased with its performance after using it for 6 months. They took it back and gave me a full refund. They will definitely be getting my business in the future!

This is my favorite climbing shop. Huge selection of gear, knowledgeable staff, and good prices. They also have a pretty rad bouldering wall and fun weekly events! Beer and bouldering on Thursdays. If it is any testimony most of thr route developers I know shop here. Additionally, Terry, thr owner, is also a developer and is super up to date on his gear. They also have great sales!!!

Really great for ordering climbing shoes online. Climbing shoes can be pretty difficult to size correctly without trying them on first, so the free shipping and free return shipping on orders >$50 (i.e. basically all shoes) allows you to order a couple pairs to make sure you get the right fit. I found the return process pretty easy and everything went smoothly.

The worst experience I have ever had with a store. I ordered skis from them with one day express shipping, these skis arrived seven days later. This was not even the part I was mad about. This "pair" of skis arrived with one ski inside the box? How does that even happen? How can a company even manage to fail on that high of a level. Terrible.

Everybody at the coop is wonderful. Beer and Bouldering is a really good time with a fun group every week. Special events like movie screenings are always done really well. Great for trying/buying climbing shoes as theres a wall to test on and their return/exchange policy is top notch. Couldnt recommend higher.

Fantastic company. Learned about them as a third party vendor on Amazon, then went directly to their website for better pricing/variety. They use Amazon fulfillment centers with purchases from their website, and currently offer free 2 day shipping & returns. Highly recommended.
