I honestly have a difficult time understanding some of the negative reviews about this place. I have been to this SAS location twice, once about a year ago and once again today, and found both of my trips to be enjoyable. Today I felt like they had organized their fabrics better, had an even better selection in ribbons and trims and my only complaint was that they have less buttons than they used to. What you need to understand when walking into SAS Fabrics is that it is indeed located in a warehouse. This means that it can get a little warm during the summer, so arrive earlier in the morning to beat the heat. When we were checking out, the cashier offered us water, which we werent expecting. I believe they have a water fountain in the back. Also, any complaints of bugs would make sense considering the fabric is being housed in a warehouse but neither my mom or me, with our combined hours of scowering high and low, have ever spotted a bug. Customer service wasnt too amazing our first time around, but they didnt seem rude either. They just seemed busy. This time, it was a breath of fresh air. There was a young man who was walking through the isles frequently, asking if anyone needed help finding anything. When getting our fabric cut, the young man cutting our fabric was also quite talkative and kind, asking us if we had any plans for 4th of July, etc. I found this to be better than the service I usually receive at Joanns. While the ladies at Joanns are friendly, I honestly cant remember someone ever asking me if I needed help. Above all else, the most important thing at SAS Fabrics is the selection. They sell mostly apparel and upholstery fabrics, so dont expect to find anything here for quilting. (They do have a decent selection of cotton solids, which sell for around $3/yd.) Fabric usually ranges from $1.49/yd to $3.99/yd, although it can be as cheap as $0.99/yd and up to $14.99/yd. Dont worry, the only thing I saw for $14.99/yd was leather, which isnt that bad of a price. They also have isles and isles of trims, ribbons and similar notions. These usually go for $0.10/yd to $0.25/yd and they will let you buy the entire spool. (Their spools are huge and will only cost you a few dollars, not those rinky dink spools of ribbon at Joanns where you pay $3 just for a couple yards.) I highly suggest buying their elastic, its way cheaper than what you end up paying in store at Joanns. They sell quite a few zippers for $0.25, which my mom always insists on stocking up on. Buttons are pretty cheap and you can buy little bags (About 3in x 2in big?) of those pretty vintage looking buttons for $0.75. And yes, you will have to do some digging to find some of the really good stuff, but its completely worth it. Come with a specific project in mind or else youll end up buying more than you can carry! My mom and I walked out of the store with close to 15 yds of fabric, including satin, gauze, knit, lycra, and lace, and a handful of zippers for about $30. The prices are hard to beat, even with coupons at Joanns. Buy your basics at Joanns, look for the unique and beautiful stuff here. Some people say you can find slightly cheaper fabric at Walmart, but I find that the quality of fabric is much better here than it is at Walmart. We will definitely shop at SAS Fabrics again.

Sas is a great store. Its really not well air conditioned, its musty as all get out, and looks like a warehouse. The fabric isnt really that great of a deal and the customer service is poor. But the TRIM IS AMAZING. This stuff is 3 or 4 dollars elsewhere is only 50 cents to a dollar here! They have an unbelievable selection, and although you can find fabric like theirs cheaper elsewhere, there is not a deal like this around. Even the manufacturer defect outlet trim websites I frequent cannot beat the deals at SAS. They have an amazing selection of fabric and trim as well, so if youve brought a very large very cold water you should be able to find whatever you are looking for, without passing out. Dont bet on anyone actually helping you out with your stuff. Looking for that embroidered lace you were missing last week? Likely they will just point in the general direction of where the lace is usually kept. Its also pretty ghetto over there (no offense) so keep an eye on the car. To shop at SAS it is a lot of work, but well worth the savings. Be pushy in line, people will cut you and take your place if you even look away from the counter, and nobody seems to mind the rude manners. I love this place. It rules.

there are a lot of selections in the store. the building is way run down. lighting is terrible in most of the store. the staff is stuck at the cutting counter and is borderline rude when you ask a question. We also got yelled at for picking up a spool of thread on the way to the checkout (it wasnt on our ticket) we wanted to add it to our order and were told someone from the cutting counter would have to give us another ticket. we left the thread, not worth standing in 2 lines to add a dollar item. Heads up if you want smaller qty of anything, 1 yard minimum and there has to be at least 1 yard left on the bolt after cutting. We had to get more of several items because there was 1/2 -3/4 of a yard left on the bolts after we got what we wanted. Was also a little bit weird that they tore everything instead of cutting, which was ok if they didnt drag it all over the floor when doing so...

I have shopped here for three years, ever since I moved to Arizona. It is by far the cheapest place to get fabric and notions. The location on Indian School Rd seems to be set up more for costumes and is not as neat as the one on 19th Ave. but both are good sources of cheap material. There is fabric for clothing, decorating, upholstery, outside furniture, formal wear and more. There are notions including thread, buttons, sequins, elastic, ribbon, lace, curtain tie backs, snaps, and more. You can always find discounted fabric at $1.00/yd. May not be your favorite but I use it for mock ups. I have bought upholstery fabric for $3.00/yd. The selection is huge! It is definitely not Jo-Ann Fabrics but if you are looking for a good price, you can find it here.

Never a pleasure to interact with the staff. You get the feeling theyre lying, they dont care and they just want to take your money and get you out the door. Ive been shopping at various SAS stores around Phoenix and Tucson and the Phoenix 19th street store is the worst. The Manager, Maria is just a horrible human being. She will say one thing, negatively to the staff about you and your purchase and smile at your face while she rings up your sale like she never said a thing about you. You see it happen. The staff is embarrassed because we all know it happened and 2 faced Maria is acting like shes getting away with something. Shes horrid. Not a 1 time experience, I shop at this location all the time. This is business as usual for 19th st.
