Absolutely terrible. I VERY strongly advise against coming here for any reason. Short version: Came for an oil change, waited 2.5 hours, was then told they didnt have the right tool to open the oil cap. Found out they stripped the cap, making it near impossible for anyone else to change the oil thereafter. Long version: I came here yesterday for an oil change on my 2004 VW Touareg. There were a couple cars ahead of me, and I was told it would be about an hour before they could get to it. Thats not unusual, so I decided to leave it with them and walk to get something to eat. After walking back, I waited outside until about 2 and a half hours had elapsed since I left it there. Finally, someone came outside and told me that they didnt have the proper tool to open the cap to release the oil. The employee gave me a few excuses as to why they didnt have the tool. I asked what I should do about this since Ive been waiting for so long with nothing to show for it. (Usually this is where youre offered some kind of compensation in the form of a coupon or the like.) The guy just shrugged. I then explicitly asked for a discount on my next visit just as a matter of principle (I didnt plan on coming back). He told me maybe they can give me a coupon next time, but he doesnt have any right now. I then got in my car and began writing a review outside the store. A manager walked up to me after a bit and gave me a signed business card with a 30% "coupon" written on it. I took my car somewhere else the next day to have the oil changed. Here, they lifted my car and showed me the oil cap. I watched the entire process. The place where the tool is to be inserted was completely stripped (grinded to a round hole so tools wont work in it). I cant say with absolute certainty that Pep Boys stripped it, but the circumstances lead me to believe that during those 2.5 hours, they attempted remove the oil cap with the wrong tool, thereby stripping it and leaving me with a problem I didnt previously have. The other guys couldnt get the cap off because of the stripped cap, so Im going to have to take it into the VW dealership now and see what they can do. My guess is that whatever they do will cost me more than an oil change.

As a young person with little money to spend fixing my car, and a delivery driver that needs their car to work, Ive tried on multiple occasions to use pep boys as a nearby repair place. The first time, they told me that, despite their many POWER tools and such, they couldnt change my oil because they couldnt get the oil pan nut off. My boyfriend did it the next day, by hand. How this makes sense, i will never know, but this was nothing compared to the next visit i had. My car was overheating, because there was air in the coolant line, and that blew my old bleeder valve off. So, i bought the part, and called pep boys for a quote on a "coolant bleeder valve and the transfer tube thingy" and was greeted with a mere $90 labor price. Awesome! So the next day i towed my car there, and showed them the part and, "its going to be $600". Excuse me? I told them what i was quoted and asked to speak to a manager, who took 10 minutes to even come to the counter. He just told me this is what it is, sorry for the inconvenience. I towed my car elsewhere, and was told $200, which was fine. I complained on their website and the manager called me to apologize (i am sure it was forced) and then stated "Women can get emotional when they get something wrong, and its in their nature to not know what car parts theyre talking about". So, not only due to their lack of service, but now sexism is on their list of reasons to avoid this place like the plague

My check engine light came on, and I brought the vehicle to pep boys for a diagnosis. After waiting for close to an hour (when I was originally told it would take only 20 to 30 minutes) I was told that the check engine light was due to a bad fuel pump and fuel filter, and that the repair would cost at least eight hundred dollars. I was also given the "youneedtohaveitfixednownownownownowherehereherehere!" treatment, which did NOT sit well AT ALL with me. Something didnt sit well with their prognosis. So, I brought the vehicle to another shop-specifically, where I bought the vehicle- and was told that a gasket was bad. I ased about the fuel pump and fuel filter, specifically, "would that have caused the check engine light to come on?" No, I was told- that was replaced a week before I picked the vehicle up. The difference between the two diagnoses was about $500.00. Apparently, if youre a single white male who drives a decent looking vehicle, the personnel at Pep Boys think you have the ability to throw good money after bad. The technicians at this shop should have their credentials revoked. They clearly couldnt correctly diagnose the problem with my vehicle- what else are they getting wrong?

Terrible Liars. I went in there for an oil change and then they told me there is a nail in my back tire and estimated $450 just to replace the 2 back tires on my 2012 Sentra with all their add-on crap. I passed and they sold me a $9 tire repair kit to pull out the nail and patch it myself. I couldnt find the nail so I took it to Discount Tire at 59th and Behrend. They adjusted the tire pressure (which pep boys said they did) to its proper 33psi. Pep boys had left it way down at 20-24psi in all 4 tires. Wtf. Also, they determined there WAS NOT a nail in any tire. They did all this for free, and were very courteous and pleasant! I highly recommend them. So after wasting my afternoon trying to deal with what should have only taken 1 to 2 hours max, I returned that stupid tire repair kit. Worst service ever from liars and cheats. How do I even know if they actually changed my oil or just charged me for nothing? Please whatever you do dont go here. Pats Precision Auto Care is right across the street and they have always been honest and done great work. The only reason I did not go there was because they were busy and ironically it would have been a 1 to 2 hour wait.

I was extremely disappionted by the service. I placed my order at the service desk for a brake job, oil change and tire rotation. I was told it would be an hour wait and 40 minutes for the service. I cleared as much of my schedule to make room for the wait. After waiting an hour and 40 minutes, my vehicle was still waiting. I was forced to leave my car and return to work. I will say that one of the service guys gave me a ride back to my office, but when the work was finally done (5 hours later), there wasnt anyone available to pick me up. I was kept on hold for 20 minutes just trying to find out how I was to get my car back. And lastly, to top it all off, the paperwork was lost when I finally got to the store. The brakes sound good, but Im very skeptical of the quality of the work based on the lack of communication at this store. I wasnt informed about the reason for the delays until I asked. I will not go back to this store and recommend to others to find another source for car service.
