I dont know which store the bad reviews refer to because I have had nothing except great experiences shopping at this Safeway since 2010. I live across the street from this store, with a Frys a few hundred yards in the other direction. Yes, Safeway is a bit pricier with less square footage than Frys, stocking less inventory. However I choose to shop at Safeway 95% of the time because of its outstanding STAFF: excellent longtime Store Manager Extraordinaire Yung, her sidekick Darlene, Sushi Diva Chong (who coaxed my unsophisticated palate with a COOKED Crispy Chicken Roll!), the delis "Taco Tuesday" Debbie, cheery & efficient checkout cashiers Joe and Rosina, bagger Marco, and all of the other great employees, too numerous to name. (Special Shout Out to John Da Butcher who offers to handcut my once-a-month "guilty pleasure" - 2 filet mignons). Dont even get me started on the perfectly placed Wing Bar right at the entrance where the delis delish Teriyaki Wings lure me into buying them even I just dropped in for a carton of Tillamook Udderly Chocolate ice cream or a pack of UltraSoft Charmin! Best of all, I really appreciate pharmacists Tessina and Helal, who go above and beyond their responsibilities to fill my numerous prescriptions quickly and efficiently, while making recommendations on over-the-counter items. They make sure Im aware of possible side effects on any new drugs. If theres a problem in filling a Rx, one of the pharmacy staff will notify me at home. Whenever Im obviously not feeling well, they go out of their way to fill my prescription quickly. As for complaints about check-out lines.....IT IS A PUBLIC STORE, not your personal shopper! Part of grocery shopping is the dreaded checkout process. Its the one aspect of shopping that I absolutely hate! My late husband and I would flip a coin to see who would be forced to do the weeks shopping. Standing in a line is not exclusive to this store. Ive lived all over the US, from LAX to D.C. to ATL to SFO, and - horror of horrors - theres usually a person or two (or three) ahead of me. Often a fellow senior citizen counting out the EXACT amount due in dollar bills and coins from her "pocky-book". Or struggling to use the card reader while swiping their debit/credit card instead of inserting the chip end. How about a fistful of coupons (most expired or the buyer failed to see she had to buy 4 of the item to get the 50 cents off!). Its always something so I adjust my mindset accordingly. Otherwise Id be starring in a selfie called "Check Out Chainsaw Massacre" on Instagram!

Too many expired food products. Yogurt that is far beyond expiration date. Lipton Fresh Leaf refrigerated iced tea (without preservatives) is always expired. Yesterday, I saw bottles that expired in November. Canned vegetables on clearance that expired in 2015. These are recent examples but I have seen expired food for several years now, and lots of it. Lots of other things wrong like putting those big yellow sales stickers under products that dont match up with the actual product. Usually they are for a different size or variety of that product (that they dont have on the shelf). Employees seem impatient or grumpy a lot of the time. Ill go to Frys from now on.

I cant believe this place is still open....big pluses: no customers= no lines, and the turkey breasts are absolutely the best, if i could be sure theyd have any on a holiday ID just buy a couple, three of these and call it done, chicken and meatloaf were great last time I got them, (07/05 ) I generally try to avoid the place since I like frys so much more. But, since I live w/I 1 mile I do stop there on occasion.

Theres always something wrong with their registers have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for them to get it back up and working so I can buy my stuff and get out of there . Wish they had a self check out so I wouldnt have to deal with their grumpy old workers out of their 10 registers only two or one are always open which is very annoying .....

Wow just called to order party trays for a LARGE party we are having, a week in advance. Deli -"I dont know anything about that, where you would go to order them, cant help you right now, call back tomorrow" LOL- train your employees!

That lady at deli section is so harsh and rude. Be aware of her attitude. I was asking about the chicken, and her voice starting to raise just because i didnt catch what is she explaining right away. I dont like the tone of her voice.

Organic produce is awful! Lettuce rotten, celery wilty, tomatoes overripe, etc. Organic eggs expire date was today for some, others were expired 4 days ago, only one brand was good until 6 days from now!

When we are visiting our home in Scottsale from LA, this store is such a breath of fresh air for us! Any store in LA is chaotic and crazy ... this is peaceful, friendly.
