Service in general if fine when you can find it. But I must say there consistency is strange and when you explain a problem that is on their end they dont compromise. My cat has urinary problems and I went into buy prescription food for him and at check out I was asked if I had a prescription card for the food. My answer was "No?" and the checkout person said nothing, typed in a few numbers and continued not explaining the question they asked. The following time I come in to get the food and I end up waiting in a very long line and end up being asked for a prescription card. I said I didnt have one and the cashier ends up reaching out to a higher authority and she ended up stating she cant sell me this food with out any sort of authorization from their veterinarian from their store. I mentioned I wasnt told this the last time I bought this food and asked if I could at least buy one can in the mean time because my cat really needs it. She said no. She made a statement basically saying its like CVS and you cant just order any prescription medication you want without a doctors orders. On a certain level of this I totally agree, but I didnt spend +$200 on an emergency visit for my cat to go into the vet to find he has urinary problems and be told my them that he needs a special kind of food to be told by a "barely manager" that I cant buy at least one can of food to help him. I was just trying to get food for him to keep urinary crystals forming from happening. I am writing this review out of anger because Im a caring owner of a cat and I can understand their point, but I just ended up asking for one Freaking can and it wouldnt have killed them to help me. Idk what happened to "the customer is always right" (this coming from someone who worked in the food industry) but it sure doesnt mean anything here. I hope this review helped and good luck.

A couple weeks ago I went to Petsmart to buy a budgie because my current budgie needed a companion. The bird that they gave me was lethargic, swollen, and falling down, it died of a seizure less than 12 hours after me taking him home. When we brought the poor baby back we told them exactly what happened and I warned them that their other birds are probably sick as well because it was probably a parasite. Well today I go to Petsmart again to buy a couple toys, so I went to look at the birds and see if they were okay. You know how store birds are always jumping around and screaming and playing? These birds were not. They were all puffed up and looked horrible, they were breathing heavily, with gasping open mouths, and their feathers were a mess. Two looked like they were about to die. I went to go get someone and tell them about the two birds. I finally found someone watched as she quarantined the two birds. The birds didnt even try to move when they were taken out, and if you know anything about budgies that is not a normal or healthy behavior at all. The birds should have been taken care of immediately after one died so suddenly, but they were not and now almost all of the birds appear in very bad condition. Dont go to Petsmart in San Marcos to buy animals. Some Petsmarts are better and have people who really care about their animals, but not this one. They need to train their staff to recognize unhealthy bird behavior since there are live birds in the store. But the girl who helped me did do her best.

I just went there today to get my cats rabies shot and it went very well! They were very patient with him because hes an indoors cat, so he was extremely nervous and it took a while to get him to come out of the kennel. The vet assistant was very nice and gentle with him while doing the check up. The vet knew his stuff and I was able to get all of my questions answered. I scheduled another appt in 2 weeks to get his another required vaccine as well as get him and my other cat groomed as well (since theyre the only Petsmart in the area that does cat groomings). I thought they would be really really expensive, but it honestly wasnt too bad! And I live from paycheck to paycheck! The girl that checked us out was helpful too! She took a look at my cat and told me what kind she thought he was (flame point), which is awesome because I had no clue what kind of cat he was! Overall, wonderful experience with Petsmart - San Marcos :)

WILL NOT ACCEPT PRINTED MANUFACTURERS COUPONS! Had me in tears at Christmas because I couldnt afford my dogs food otherwise. I am able to use the same coupons at other pet stores with no issue. That said, the store is always clean, well stocked, friendly employees, I adore the vets at the Banfield office here... in the first visit they had an answer to my dogs skin condition when other vets said there was nothing to be done! Im very pleased with the customer service here. I recently went shopping for toys for our new dog with my little ones, so it was slightly chaotic. I didnt notice that one of my daughters put back a dog toy when we checked out, so initially I missed out on the buy two get one free deal. I went back to the store later that day to explain the situation and the manager was very helpful and accommodating. I was able to get the 3rd toy for free without a problem.

I took my dog in to get her nails trimmed, and when I came back to get her, they had cut the quick under her nails and she was bleeding everywhere. It was only when I asked that they even cleaned her blood up and put some medicine on her paw. Ill never go back, the woman (her name was Charlotte, I believe) didnt even apologize and was very rude/defensive when I asked why my dog was bleeding everywhere. Terrible expereince.

took my dog in to get her nails trimmed, shopped while they did it, and then at check out they had dog treats and gave one to my dog who is picky about food, she snubbed it, but the cashier just laughed about. It is very nice to be able to shop with your pet. I go there now for my dog and fish supplies.

Currently standing in a line that has AT LEAST 17 individual customers waiting to checkout. There is only one register open, and maybe one additional floor associate that is now nowhere to be seen (saw her earlier when I passed the line at only 6 waiting.) This is absolutely ridiculous!!!!

My dog was covered in fleas despite being on frontline, so I came into this PetSmart to find something to get rid of them and treat my poor babys scratches. The employee was extremely helpful and friendly. He took me to all the items I needed and my dog is now flea free!

I have always had good experiences at this location. They know my Charlie by name and he is always happy and content when we go see the vet. Weve been taking him there for four years and will continue to do so.
