Since they renovated this store about a month ago, the shopping experience there has changed dramatically! They put walls up everywhere so that the openness feeling is totally destroyed. NOw it feels heavy and cramped. Its hard to get around any of the card and paper displays because its all crammed into one area like a maze. The toy merchandise of nick nacks which use to be displayed on a column that went around, use to be great, cuz you could see clearly what was being sold and linger on what you wanted to buy. Now its up high in these They put the cashiers all to the side, and you have to squeeze by a column to get by, which is ridiculous for someone who is carrying large art supplies. Forget it, if you have a baby stroller. Its almost impossible to see what cashier is available because you have this stupid column standing right in front of the line. Then once you finally get to the cash register to pay you have to stand directly behind another cash register person, which is completely uncomfortable. Bad Feng Shui. Whoever did the renovating for this store on Bond street, you did a job that wasnt thoroughly thought through. Now it feels like all the Utrecht stores that has gone out of business, cramped and ugly.

I called the main store located at 1-5 Bond St. in SoHo to check on an item I found on the online website, to see whether they had it in-store. A young lady answered the phone, named Shannon, who, assisted me. She got the description of the item I wanted and immediately ran to check the store for it. Her pleasantness over the phone really helped out, over ordering online again and having it shipped in from Chicago, rather than a direct purchase locally speaking, only a short subway ride from work ! ! She confirmed that the item as viewed, online, is in-stock, and she really made a solid impression of the kind of employees who do work at Blick, that, make a difference when trying to get something as small as this, found. Really very nice to know that theyre really good in-store clerks that extend themselves when needed !! I love the art supplies at Blick (dickblick), and, highly impressed with their recent makeover, at the cashier counters. Neatly arranged, like being in Tokyo, Japan. too bad that most of the art supplies are carried outside of the locality of the store itself, housed in a huge warehouse in Ilinois !! Thats about 50% of the entire merchandise ... I think ... maybe more. Bernardo

Saludos!

I came to Dick Blicks searching for woodcarving tools and supplies, the store selection was reasonable enough, that i still managed to find the quality woodcarving tools i was searching for. BING! (On line selection is wonderful) The service was outstanding, in particular a staff member named Steve. Although you pay for their savings card (10% off non sale item purchases), i managed to save almost $125 for the year! CHA CHING!! They send me 40% off single item coupons, which i managed to save almost ~$170 there!... CHA CHING!! They are extremely clean, and well managed! I also found other items that i will purchase from them for future projects. However,.... I didnt find any Carmel Macchiato...WHATS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?... Hehe! Just kidding! I would highly recommend Dick Blicks to anyone searching for the all around art store!

BAD SERVICE... I went to get a pen to cover a piece of metal. They sold me a pen that should do so, I spoke to 3 different people and they all agreed that this would be the pen to get. Well, it ruined the piece and I had to spent over $100 to get it cleaned. When i went back to return the pen (which at $8 was a joke, but I thought the least they can do), the manager was rude and told me that i used the pens and they did exactly what they were supposed to do. When I replied that I bought them on the condition that they were to color the metal not ruin it, so they didnt do as they were supposed to...he replied that his co-workers took an "estimated guess"... Dont tell people what to buy, if you dont know what you are talking about...

I end up going to this store a lot because of its proximity to Spring Studios. The prices cant be beat! The selection, at this store in particular, is very good and the shelves are not as chaotic as at most art supply stores. Id say the one down side is that this store (and most NYC Blick stores) seem woefully understaffed and getting help or trying to check out can take MUCH longer than I would like. I wish the high-end brush selection were better, though I get why thats a hard thing to justify retail space for. This store is GREAT for students and mad decent for professionals. I really like the frequent buyers card (which has already saved me more than $100).

Of course I always come here when I need something instantly, but now I almost always order my art supplies on the website. My last visit was highly disappointing, because I actually needed help with what I was looking for. I found the employees to be rude. There are like 2 very nice people there, but mostly never a helpful person on the floor. If you order a product online the price is waaaay cheaper, plus the website always has specials. For example, if you spend over $99, you get $15 off your entire order, etc. Shipping is always free over 99 etc, AND the shipping is always quick, a week or less. This store is not worth the trip.

Art HEAVEN, with the biggest, most organized selection of products! Im not "une artiste" by any means (just dabbling in acrylic painting as a hobby), but I cant imagine that Blicks doesnt have something for everyone, from dilettantes like me to the next Pollack in the making. The staff is very also helpful (albeit a little harried). Tip: give yourself more time than you think you need, even if youre "just picking up a few things." Every time I went, I got so absorbed by all the amazing merchandise that I stayed until closing time and felt rushed to get to the cash register!

I recently went to Blick in search of simple stencils for a class project. I didnt find stencils in an average price range to use with my students. I just wanted fruits to teach them colors and healthy eating choices. The prices were high and by the time the register would total up the items for a simple art project it would have totaled over $50. There was lots of empty hangers waiting to be filled. Guys this was August right before school opened- bad timing to be out of merchandise.

A fantastic store that is always fully stocked on everything that you need to be creative. A large selection of paper, paints, tools and crafts. Excellent staff that is always helpful and knows their stuff. Only issue I would have with the store is that during peoples off hours like during lunch or when they get off from work the lines to checkout get a bit long and take a while to buy your things. But thats to be expected of any good chain store.
