I would give this location zero stars if I could. Today was the first time I visited the REI in Tukwila. Ive never been inside before and wanted to check it out. Right away a man approached me and my boyfriend and asked if we needed help finding anything. I politely replied "Were just looking for now. Thank you." As we continued to look around, I started to notice the man was around every single corner like he was watching our every move and less than 5 min later, he approached me again and asked the same question. I replied "Im still looking... Its our first time here." Then he went on to explain their member program and handed me a slip explaining the program as well. I thanked him again and continued to look around. He basically followed us to the back of the store. Eventually my boyfriend and I split up because I wanted to look at Womens and he was actually talking on the phone the whole time. In womens, I was startled by another worker who came up super close behind me. She asked the same question that the man asked twice already and I gave the same response. I continued to walk around the store and everywhere I went, she was in my area. Ive worked retail for years and I understand that maybe they were trying to demonstrate good customer service...But this was different. I tried not to let it bother me but I couldnt even thoroughly look around because I felt like every 3min someone was trying to talk to me or in my bubble. They had walkies/ear pieces so I know they were communicating with each other. I even heard one of the workers ask another what they were doing and she said "oh you know, stalking" and continued to follow us around. I felt like we were being discriminated by the employees there. Was it because of the area? Im not sure. But my boyfriend was on the phone the whole time talking to his sister in Hawaii and I was just walking around, looking at things and trying to get my pregnancy exercise in. Eventually I just wanted to leave because I felt very awkward, uncomfortable and unwelcomed. I will not be shopping at this REI ever again.

If youre looking for a specific item or youre looking to spend a lot, youre probably better off going to the flagship store. The Tukwila location is very small compared to the flagship store in Seattle, and as such, has a much smaller selection. Overall, this location has a fairly good selection of common items if you quickly need to grab something, but for everything else, the flagship store is probably best. That being said, my experiences with this particular store have been pleasant. The store is very well organized and laid out, and the employees are knowledgeable about the products. I do like that they have real-time stock reports, so if you dont see something on the racks, ask them to search it for you and they may find it at another location, or there in that same store. Customer service is hit and miss. Some of the people are exactly the type of employees youd expect at REI: friendly and knowledgeable people who love the outdoors, and others are the exact opposite and seem to just be there to pay the bills. Ive noticed this everywhere, so its not specific to REI at all.

AVOID REI BIKE SERVICES!!!! Ture story: I took my bike to REI recently for the first time to get a dropper post replaced on my MTB and the mechanic bellyached about even considering taking on the task and threaten to charge me extra for the service, on top of a $60/hr labor fee, and a quote for 1 hour labor. After he lectured to me about his distaste for dropper posts, he said hed call me next week and perhaps get me in his tight schedule, granted if he was still in the mood the do the job. AVOID REI BIKE SERVICE. I called local bike shop Cycle Therapy down in Kent and they enthusiastically replaced my dropper post in 5 minutes and only charged me $10 for labor. Take your bike to Cycle Therapy in Kent; its legit and affordable for bike repair service, advice, and more. The owner of the shop is a solution maker.

I was looking for a rain cover for my bicycle helmet but left empty handed. Youd think they would stock that bit of basic rain gear when the rainy season is approaching (and its the Seattle area for cripes sake), oh well. I found the staff to be a bit arrogant and indifferent, possibly bordering on hostile. It was a nasty surprise. I felt like I needed to walk in wearing ice climbing spikes, a repelling belt and a big backpack in order to be given any respect there. The one exception was a 40ish guy (my age) who works in the bike shop. He was cool. He offered to order a cover for me but if I have to order it, I might as well shop online and have it delivered to my home.

I know it was a hot day today, but your customer service reps were just plain rude. Nice tent, but I couldve done without the pretension. Im from Michigan and was practically raised out of doors. I know your products are quality, but I suppose when I purchase camp supplies, esp. $220 worth, I expect a little bit of kindness. Maybe thats just the Midwest in me, but your employees are sorely lacking warm hearts. Cheers. Off to a Cabelas somewhere in the Midwest~ were not so classist back there

Its REI which means top quality products that are expensive. That doesnt mean overpriced, just their products are good and their return policy probably only matched by Nordstrom. The only issue with this site is its size, its small and parking can be a real pain especially as its located next to some other popular shops (BB&B). Great if you just want to pop in to get your item, but if your really going shopping, go the extra drive to the main store in the city. Two levels of goodies!

Weve been doing our REI shopping here for 13 years and have consistently found the REI folks at the Tukwila store to be Top Of The Line in every respect. They have always been helpful, courteous, knowledgeable and most important very friendly! My wife and I gravitate towards bicycling, so most of our encounters are with the folks in the bike/ski repair section. Its always a pleasure dealing with these guys. Keep up the great work!

Use to enjoy REI for their quality but lately its no better than that of the big box stores. Ive been mugged or close to mugged in the parking lot. The bus stop adjacent to the store doesnt help. Loss prevention gets all fussy when you use pockets over a purse. Ive decided to no longer shop here. Its not safe and I dont feel welcome. Sorry, but I shall not return here unless Im drug in by family member/friend.

I could have easily done a two but shoe sales associate Scott was a customer service superstar while the other guy had his head down lost in technology... Scott helped me twice along with a half dozen other people while the other guy stood there head down lost in technology.... I ended up joining but only by Scotts customer service prowess

Its another REI. I just wish they could figure out how to give enough space to walk in between things. Especially the closing sections if you over stuff the racks half and its going to be on the floor. I ended up going down to the Tacoma location the next day much better layout and it just seem cleaner without half the clothes on the floor.
