This establishment has really changed in the last couple years. It pains me to leave this review on a shop that I love, but Im inevitably left with no choice. Over the past 4 months I have been to Arriving By Bike a total of about 9 times. Ive experienced terribly pretentious attitudes, laziness, and overall lack of customer care. I been disappointed 7 out of 9 times at the customer service as well as the recently inflated prices of parts and more specifically, labor. (Asking $17 parts + labor to change a flat is absurd, yet I still paid with a $20 bill and told them to keep the change, for a job that took them less then 3 minutes.) My recent experience #1 I dropped my bike off for a simple tire / wheel change at 1pm and they said there was one guy ahead of me and it would be out no later than 2-2:30pm. I told them I had an important bike trip planned and we were all leaving at 4pm. They assured me it would be done before then. At 2:45pm I called to check the progress and they hadnt started. I called again at 3:30 to receive the same response and then again at 4 yet again with the same results They were being short with me and seemed irritated that I kept calling and checking on my bike and told me to wait for them to call me when it was done. I politely reminded them of my time sensitive plans and they just repeated for me to wait for them to finish. Finally at 5:30pm they called and told me to come pick my bike up. No apology, no explanation, no care. Even though I was upset, I still left a $10 tip and didnt receive so much as a thank you. My recent experience #2 Gave them the benefit of the doubt and went in again. Needed about 1 hours worth of work done. Called before I went in to get a quote to make sure they werent busy and would have time to work on my bike. "Yeah come on down" they said, so I packed my bike and gear up and drove clear across town to their shop. I brought my bike and my gear in and they told me theyd be with me shortly. I patiently stood there for 30 minutes while they worked on someone else bike only to be turned away because they didnt have time to take any more appointments which seemed unusual to me because not only did I call ahead but while I was there waiting, they took a walk in. My girlfriend who had been waiting at the car decided to go in without me about 45 minutes later after I left and we went to pick up some groceries from the nearby market of choice. She went in and asked if they could do the exact same work that they had previously turned me down for and agreed right away. No problem. Grab your bike, well be here til 6pm. I was tempted to go back in with her and give them a piece of my mind but decided not to make a big deal out of it and just take my business elsewhere. I strongly believe you should work hard at the job you are paid to do, not just when you feel like it or because an attractive woman comes in looking for help. Go above and beyond for everyone. STRIVE for excellent customer service. Local or not, if you cant treat local people with dignity and care then you dont deserve local business. Were a small community, be kind to your neighbors. help others. Karma will find its way back to you. and thats just my 0.02

this is a small store but big on service! I visited this shop out of curiosity since its not far from where I live & its on a main st here in Eugene, so its very easy to get there. My first visit was to check out the bikes they had in stock & see what bike accessories were available & they had lots to chose from, the staff I have spoken with have been friendly & patient with my questions & knowledgeable about the products they sell. I had to take a flat in to get fixed & removed the tire myself not knowing it wouldnt be as easy to get back on since I didnt know the correct steps & adjustment required putting it back on & spent hrs fiddling with it.. Needless to say I ended up taking the whole bike in to get the tire aligned properly & the rear brakes set & it probably didnt take them more than 5 mins to get the job done correctly & the cost was only $10. So Ive learned my lesson about bike maintenance, its better to let the people that know what theyre doing do the job right the first time than trying to do it yourself and waste your time just to save a few dollars, take it to the staff at Arriving By Bike & theyll fix it right!

Went in one day to ask questions about bikes. I told the person immediately that I wouldnt be making a purchase that day, was just getting information so I could decided what I wanted. A man there spent over a half hour showing me several models and explaining the pros and cons of each. I had to go, eventually, and thanked the man for his tireless patience and enthusiasm. He turned out to be the business owner! Although I didnt buy a bike there in the end (I ended up buying a used "starter" for my GFs first bike), I will gladly return when Im ready to buy a higher quality product or need a repair. Very good service, friendly staff, high quality bikes.

Took my 1982 Guerciotti Jet in today for a massive job I expected to take a few days and cost me several days pay. They respaced my back stays, put an 8 speed freewheel they had lying around on my back wheel, replaced the axle which was broken, replaced the chain, tuned the shifting, and straightened my derailleur hanger that had been bent, probably from me putting it into the back of a car. I paid about half what I had been quoted by another shop, and they were done in about 3 hours. Also, this is the only shop in town that has given me props on a frame that is rare, old, and beautiful. Im never going back to Pauls.

Great first experience, will be back. Im riding my first bike tour in a few days so I was checking my bike to make sure everything was ok. I noticed a loose and slightly bent spoke. I dropped in to ask them about this. They answered all my questions and offered to tighten the spoke for me. Even though they were visibly busy, I was helped quickly and kindly. I didnt feel rushed and was never pushed to purchase anything. Ive been to many other bike shops around Eugene, but never felt quite comfortable in them. Arriving By Bike on the other hand was a completely different experience. They have earned my business.

I love this bike shop. I have tried several different shops here in Eugene (Pauls, Hutchs, REI). Each has its own strengths. The staff at Arriving by Bike has been exceptional - friendly, thorough, patient. They have offered ranges of ideas for purchases/repairs/etc. No one there has ever tried to sell me something I dont need. They ride the bikes they sell. The shop is small, cozy, comfortable. I really like their focus being on transportation, not racing or any kind of extreme mountain biking, etc. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
