I just recently started knitting, and I was really happy to find a yarn store close to my house. I had one okay experience there, but since then Ive had two rather unpleasant ones, and I wont be back. My most recent experience was shopping there in the evening, shortly before closing. I went to the cash register about 15 minutes before closing, and the woman there asked what I was making and proceeded to tell me, "That wont be much of a scarf if you use those needles." That might be helpful information (except Id already knitted a scarf on smaller needles, so I knew it would work for what I wanted), but the way it was said made me feel really defensive - like it was said with a nasty attitude, not a helpful one. I purchased my yarn and then went to the ball winder, which is when things got worse. One staff member stayed to help me for a minute before leaving (it was still about five minutes before closing time). I got that skein wound because shed set it up for me, but I couldnt get the next skein to wind. The last remaining employee (after reading the review below I wonder if shes the owner) was about five feet away at the cash register and heard my friend and I talking as we tried to figure out what to do, but she never offered any help. I finally went and asked for help. She kind of grudgingly came over and contemptuously fixed what we had been doing wrong. She then flipped almost all of the lights in the store off while we were still trying to wind the yarn! At this point it was about 1 minute until their official closing time, which made it especially rude, but I think it would have been quite rude even if it had been a couple of minutes after. She then proceeded to stand and wait for us to finish without making any chitchat or even smiling at us. It was extremely uncomfortable, and this woman clearly had no interest in making us feel comfortable. Again, Im a new knitter, so I dont know how to do everything (like use the yarn ball winder)--if youre working in a knitting store, shouldnt part of your job be to reassure newbies and not make them feel extremely unwelcome? Its too bad that this woman was so very unpleasant that I dont want to go back. As a new knitter, I want a store where I feel like I can ask questions (simple ones like is this enough yarn for ____? or what size needles would you recommend?) and get a helpful, kind response.

I had a horrible experience in this store last summer and because of it, I will never, never go back. I was treated very rudely while I was looking through knitting books for a project to take on a long road trip. I overheard one of the employees, (her first name starts with a J and she has worked there for a long time) ask another employee what I was doing in the store and started gossiping about me when I was completely minding my own business. Although initially I had come into the store to purchase some yarn they had ordered for me, I did not purchase it however because of this employees rudeness. (And, the purchase would have been over $100.00) The lack of professionalism was abhorent and its a shame because Acorn Street is my neighborhood yarn store and I was a very good customer. I have since found and am buying from other yarn shops in Seattle...

The sour disposition of the owner (or just boss?) makes shopping here an uncomfortable/unnecessary experience. I can tell when she is out of the shop because the staff is lighthearted and laughing, joking with each other and with customers. When she is there, staff is still helpful but they are brisk under her watchful eye. Every interaction Ive had with her leaves me surprised she could make a small business run with such horrible people skills. This shop is what one imagines a great yarn shop should be- beautiful yarn & accessories (slightly overpriced), lovely staff, and a cozy tight space. Unfortunately, the boss/owner is such a nasty person I would rather drive to Weaving Works to get even a single skein. Did I mention I live practically next to this shop? Yeah...shes that bad.

This store changed owners about 18 months ago and was extensively remodeled; best of all, there is now a large table in the center of the store where you can pop in with knitting problems and the staff will help you untangle them! Staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly helpful whether youre choosing a pattern, yarn, or need knitting help. The yarns - most of natural fibers - are beautifully displayed, and there is a good selection. There are also needlework supplies and buttons. Classes are available. And . . . dogs are welcome (there are dog treats available!)

The last time I was there, admiring the amazing variety of yarn, the friendly and very skilled staff helped me choose a project, select the yarn and needles, measure my gage. They invited me to sit and knit while they helped me understand the knitting instructions, brought me snacks and made me feel so much at home! What a wonderful, homey, friendly store! I cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciate it.

This is a nice, little neighborhood business. Helpful? Not so much. I had a question about a specific brand of sock yarn, and received a very sarcastic, short answer. Im pretty sure it was the person in charge. Not too friendly. I wont be back there; Id rather drive into the Udistrict for the Weaving Works experience!

They have a ton of yarns I had wanted to try, more than 2 kinds of laceweight (actually 5-6, which is unusual and awesome), good color selection, and friendly staff. They also carry a small amount of spindles and spinning fiber, which is great--spinning stores are hard to find.

Ive been to this store many times because they have such a great selection of yarn. However, the owner has been extremely rude to me on a number of occasions, and I no longer think it is worth it to go there.

Cute, well-stocked, and helpful staff. There are lots of classes to choose from, as well as turn-of-the-season fashion shows. The only thing missing is a proper knit night!
